April 7: Ehrlich Day?

A Washington television news show host says he has learned that Robert L. Ehrlich Jr. will announce his bid to reclaim the Maryland governor's office at 10 a.m. April 7 in Rockville.

The Republican former governor has for months been exploring a rematch with Gov. Martin O'Malley, a Democrat who defeated him in 2006 after one term.

Henry Fawell, an Ehrlich spokesman, would not confirm the announcement details, which come from Bruce DePuyt, host of "NewsTalk" on ABC 7 and NewsChannel 8. DePuyt reports that "an informed source" gave him the specifics, which include a second Ehrlich event at his childhood home in Arbutus the evening of April 7.

Ehrlich has said only that an announcement is coming "soon."

Since leaving the governor's office in January 2007, Ehrlich and some of his top aides have worked at the Baltimore branch of law giant Womble Carlyle Sandridge & Rice.

Although the April 7 events -- and Ehrlich's candidacy -- remain unofficial, reporters asked O'Malley about a potential rematch today at a health care reform event.

"He’s welcome. I’m looking forward," O'Malley said. "Enjoyed it last time, and I’m looking forward to it this time."

What have you been up to over the past couple of years Mr. Erhlich?

Let the games begin.

We need him back in office ASAP.

Isn't he kind of a nut?

Oh yes!...please, please, please, run again....(giggling uncontrollably)....he will get slammed again!

Baltimore City, PG County, Montgomery County, Game over... O'Malley wins again. Perhaps a little closer but in the end Bobby badhaircut falls down again and rips his skirt.!

I just would like to know what Bobby would have done differently. He can cry all he wants about the millionaire tax, but when compared to states of comparable wealth and services MD's state income taxes are simply not bad.

Wisconsin is paying more in state income taxes than we are.

O'Malley has done about as good a job as any governor in the country - he is not perfect, I wouldn't even call him great. But he has been serviceable. Education funding has remained untouched, crime in the big metro-areas has gone down, he has maintained MD's good financial standing (AAA bond rating).

Am I the only one who thinks this whole coy game of "guess-when-I'll-announce" comes off awfully arrogant and out of touch? Just like his governorship.

Wow seems like alot of O'Malley people on this blog...Well Gov time for the real issues,,Maybe Maryland will see the GOV as what he is a political oppertunist who only has his sights on Federal seat, right Barbara M. And wow what a hypocrit O'Malley has been, remeber Gov. Ehrlich had the vision to see that without slots we would where we are now and who was one of his biggest anti-slot people..well the GOV of course who when now elected becomes Mr. Slots and now cannot with his great leadership style even get one slot machine in operation...just think where Maryland would be if Bob Ehrlich would have had support during his run..at least he called it the wat it is...and douubt if the bloated budget would be this out of control...anyway O'Malley supporters, see how this election may go..will be fun and this is one UNION member(MPEC) who works for the state who will support a Republican who will save money and treat employees fairly and pass to the counties what is thir responsibility..

2011 Maryland will be facing yet another round of tax increases.
Great job as always Annapolis.
Question is who will be kinder to our wallets Ehrlich or OMalley?
Based on my own personal needs and greed I voting Ehrlich 2010.
Maryland maybe a wealthy state but I certainly am not one of them.

I keep hearing: "We NEED him back, now!" Well, okay I'll bite.

What did Bob Ehrlich do that was so great when he was here? He didn't balance any budget; he raised fees through the roof, he slashed education funding, USM tuition went up every year he was in office.

What exactly was so great about his administration?

good.. the messiah will finally come down from the mount to save all the whiny republicans!!! they better start looking for their next messiah because when he loses again, his political days are over adn they will return to the desert looking for another phoney to follow.

What are OMalley's accomplishments Hampden James?
BGE rate rollback- lies.
2007 special session taxes went way up.
4th highest taxed state in the country.
The structural deficit was fixed.
Yeah right.
Successful slots implementation.
Yeah right.
Remember 2006 vote yes on slots, no new taxes.
Wait till 2011 for that lie to kick in.
I remember this OMalley gem from 2007
"83 percent of you will see your taxes go down."
Yeah right.
Another lie.
Ehrlich raised fees, yes he did.
However he was 100 percent honest about it.
Except for oyster replenishment I cannot locate any OMalley accomplishments.

Let me see...I am a state employee. O'Malley has been in office for 4 years...I have been furloughed 3 of the 4 while the State increased its budget each year. Only 1 county had to take a furlough last year. I would rather vote for Lucifer himself before I vote for this O'Malley.

Oh yea I'm glad to hear Ehrlich is coming back. The first time in State history a first term former Governor will run to fulfill one more term. Long Live Ehrlich. I see boom times coming back again. Who knows Ehrlich might have a majority in his Cabinent and State Legislature this time.

Hold on Jay, you didn't answer Hampden James' question. He didn't say anywhere in his post that O'Malley was great. He asked what was so great about Ehrlich's administration? I took that as we need new leadership period. Not going backwards but going forwards.

A plea to Maryland democrats. During your primary dump O'Malley for George Owings! If this state is going to be stuck with a Democrat make it one with CHARACTER!

do i need to remind anybody that ehrlich's buddy, george w. dumba.. left us in a depression! he let the wall street and free market thieves run us right in a hole. i know... we should look forward not back.this is something that never comes up on fox news. get your heads out of the sand and realize how we got there and also realize that drastic measures were necessary, like lay-offs and furloughs. i have been furloughed and dont like it, but i know where the blame goes and it ain't o'malley. i voted for ehrlich the first go round and as my congressman and was sorely disappointed. and he was given a robust surplus and economy to work with.

What taxes went up? The millionaire's tax? The new bracket that doesn't impact anyone making less than 1 million dollars a year?
The sales tax is now 6%? Wow, yeah big problem there. Please.

An O'Malley accomplishment is keeping education funding and public safety funding completely intact during the worst recession in a generation. An O'Malley accomplishment is keeping is in fact the unemployment rate - high yes. But at 7.7% there is only one state in the region lower than us, VA at 7.6%. PA, WV, DE, NC, NJ unemployment is a lot higher and their finances are in a lot worse shape than ours are.

Critics will say that is all the "federal jobs" maybe. Then don't look at VA as the paradigm of fiscal and economic thought - because that state is just as reliant on the fed jobs as we are, if not more.

People have been demonizing O'Malley since the day he got in office because he has a little D in front of his name.

Now again, O'Malley is not great. If someone better comes along I would vote for him - but Bobby isn't great. You can raise taxes or fees. Bobby raised fees through the roof, slashed higher education funding (until it was an election year and then he flooded the coffers, it was a cheap effort to get votes). His overall, my way or the highway approach to governance. This petty, annoying and fake coy "will I won't I" nonsense he is playing.

I voted for Ehrlich the first time around, he was a disappointment.

Also, for the last time Piggyback taxes are set by LOCALITIES! Go cry to your county officials.

from one state employee to another, yeah furloughs are a pain.. but i can guarantee you that ehrlich will LAY US OFF BY THE TRUCKLOAD! and all you who vote for him will have yourselves to blame while standing with me in the unemployment line! recall how he cut the departments budgets and the DEPARTMENTS had to lay off contractual workers so he could say he didnt call for layoffs!

I'd rather have a furlough than an unemployment check!
