GOP Women's Group in Anne Arundel County Compares Obama to Hitler

A letter posted online by a GOP women’s group from Anne Arundel County compares Barack Obama to Adolf Hitler and criticizes the president’s push for health care reform. The letter from the Republican Women of Anne Arundel County is now bouncing around the blogosphere after being picked up by Think Progress, a project of the Center for American Progress Action Fund, the lobbying arm of a think tank founded by longtime Democratic adviser John D. Podesta. The Huffington Post has since picked up the story.

The letter reads in part:
Dear Friends,
Obama and Hitler have a great deal in common in my view. Obama and Hitler use the “blitzkrieg” method to overwhelm their enemies. FAST, CARPET BOMBING intent on destruction. Hitler’s blitzkrieg bombing destroyed many European cities – quickly and effectively. Obama is systematically destroying the American economy and with it AMERICA. First the banking/investment industry, next private enterprise (GM and Chrysler) and now HEALTH CARE. And he is working on grabbing more of the American economy with his environmental extremism!
We too CAN fight back. Contact everyone you know. Start a blitzkrieg of our own. Shut down the Capitol switchboards and the White House switchboards! Say NO to the Obamination of Obama Care!

The GOP group then lists phone numbers and addresses for Congress and the White House, reminding readers that if they send snail mail, the letter “will first go to a decontamination area to make sure you aren’t sending anthrax or something else dangerous.”

An email to the contact address on the Web site was returned as undeliverable. The letter is posted at www.rwaac.com/#Obama%20health%20care.

How does comparing Obama to Hitler help the Republican cause?
Republican on the far right turn my stomach with their hate. Disagree on a factual basis but a comparison to Hitler is just way too extreme.

She is just wrong.
He IS like Benito Mussolini though since he IS a Fascist and running the government like one.
"fascism sought that control indirectly, through domination of nominally private owners"
"fascism left the appearance of market relations while planning all economic activities. Where socialism abolished money and prices, fascism controlled the monetary system and set all prices and wages politically. In doing all this, fascism denatured the marketplace."
" Levels of consumption were dictated by the state, and “excess” incomes had to be surrendered as taxes or “loans.”
"To maintain high employment and minimize popular discontent, fascist governments also undertook massive public-works projects financed by steep taxes, borrowing, and fiat money creation."

Sound familiar?

We have a piece highlighting the back and forth between the woman and a local blogger:

More WONDERFUL publicity for an already FAILING party. Anne Arundel County, why am I not surprised?

FINE JOB!!!

No one on the Left uttered a word of criticism when Bush was compared to Hitler by The Fringe Liberals for 8 years. Now Obama Cultists get a small taste of their own medicine. Awwww, isn't that just too bad?

You dish it out, you better be able to take it. And we've learned The Left can dish it out, but they can't take it. That's just too darn bad.

Obama=Hitler.

I disagree on the Hitler analogy completely.
He is more like Il Duce. Benito Mussolini.
"Where socialism sought totalitarian control of a society’s economic processes through direct state operation of the means of production, fascism sought that control indirectly, through domination of nominally private owners."

"through domination of nominally private owners" Can you say GM, Chrysler, AIG, Fannie Mae,
Freddie Mac, etc. With the auto companies, the "nominally private owners" are the UAW union.

"Where socialism nationalized property explicitly, fascism did so implicitly, by requiring owners to use their property in the “national interest”—that is, as the autocratic authority conceived it."

Proposed "green building codes". Kelo! What cars we will be able to buy or afford.

"Where socialism abolished all market relations outright, fascism left the appearance of market relations while planning all economic activities."
"Planning boards set product lines, production levels, prices, wages, working conditions, and the size of firms."

Executive pay Czar. Bank Bailout Czar. Climate change Czar.
Controlling the auto union to run the factory the way the autocratic authority deems fit. Controlling the largest financial companies.

"State ministries, rather than consumers, determined what was produced and under what conditions."

The new Council on Automotive Communities and Workers. The Salt and Trans Fat Police everywhere.
The Soda Police.

"Licensing was ubiquitous; no economic activity could be undertaken without government permission. Levels of consumption were dictated by the state, and “excess” incomes had to be surrendered as taxes or “loans.”"

Self explanatory.

"To maintain high employment and minimize popular discontent, fascist governments also undertook massive public-works projects financed by steep taxes, borrowing, and fiat money creation. While many of these projects were domestic—roads, buildings, stadiums"

Again, self explanatory.

Hitler he is not!

We are in difficult times and we are facing the need for great change in our country. Honest people can and will disagree about what to do and how best to do it. That's what a democracy is all about. Sometimes our disagreements become passionate, and neither side of the political aisle is short of hyperbole in their rhetoric, but this statement from the Republican Women of Anne Arundel County organization is utterly beyond the pale. To compare the mass slaughter of tens of millions of people to the policies of a politician with whom you disagree is to embrace the profoundest ignorance. I would invite the leaders of this organization who drafted this foolish statement to meet with some members of their local community who experienced Hitler's Europe directly, either U.S. combat veterans or refugees, to get a sense of the magnitude of the folly behind this comparison. Perhaps a visit to the nearby Holocaust Museum in Washington D.C. is in order. A person who cannot tell the difference between mass murder and well-intended economic policies -- even if they believe them misguided -- is a person whose judgment as a leader should be seriously questioned. Having stood over mass graves of Hitler's victims, I find it difficult to convey my sense of dismay and disgust that someone would feel free to use the horrible deaths of these people for some modern political theater.

Fed Up,

Why don't you go take a long walk on a short pier?

Steve Langford, care to discuss the point instead of being an idiot?

Here is more for you education.

As I have written on my personal Face Book page, "Joyce Thomann is, perhaps, the most prolific writer I know and everything she writes is a call to action!" Although, many of your readers may find her analogies offensive, I would argue, there is no "Godwin's Law" for Sun Tzu, von Clausewitz or the Powell Doctrine of overwhelming force due to the fact that neither Republicans nor Democrats, in general, posses the depth of knowledge to discuss or invoke them with any consequence.

Joyce wrote with analogies based on the knowledge that she knew. I, however, assert the three authors cited above have relevancy to political warfare, which I contend we are currently heavily embroiled in -- even down to the district level -- and apply equally to Ms. Thomann's writing.

While these warrior / philosophers could have, perhaps, more accurately described Ms. Thomann's positions, the discussion of their works and their practical applications to politics wouldn't have raised the emotional temperature in either Democrats or Republicans to the level that she has done. She has, once again, given us all a call to action and many on both sides of the aisle have responded.

Ms. Thomann uses the term "blitzkrieg" in describing the Obama administration. While the outcomes of this tactic in our current time are (or will be) entirely different from those in the 1940s, the use of that term to describe the speed and rapidity in which the Obama administration is leading us down a road of quasi-socialism with added government intervention (which I personally find an anathema to my own political sensibilities) is not completely without merit. Her use of the same term to address Republicans and urge them to call the switchboards, I feel, is inaccurate. What I believe she is describing is a practical, political application of some aspects of the Powell Doctrine of overwhelming force (see http://townhall.com/columnists/CharlesKrauthammer/2001/04/20/the_powell_doctrine ).

This web site does not afford me enough space to clearly articulate my own personal experiences at the local level. Suffice it to say I live a "blue" state and in a decidedly Democrat-leaning county. Yet, we have a Republican county executive, a Republican state senator from my district and three out of three Republican delegates for the district. I wouldn't rule out the Republican Party as completely "dead" at this juncture.

If you were personally offended by Ms. Thomann's evocation, as a member of RWAAC, I can assure you that was not her intent. But one thing is for sure. Once again:

SHE GOT EVERYONE'S ATTENTION!

The radical left always assumes that any reference to Hitler by a conservative is supporting the mass murder of Jews. However, when the "left" compared Hitler to Bush, it was "OK".

I hope no one on either side would advocate the mass extermination of any race or religious group. Certainly in the article written above, I have yet to see any reference to genocide or the Jewish faith. Yet once again, we see the hysteria of the left unchecked. I would remind those in a state of hysteria that "chicken little" and "humpy dumpy" are well but stressed.

What you have failed to fully grasp (never let the facts get in the way of your opinion) is many of the social, economic and environmental policies of this administration are dangerously close to the rise of National Socialism which ultimately gave the world Adolf Hitler. Nationalization of industries, control of the banks, government regulation on every aspect of life were all part of the Socialist agenda.

Hitler (Mein Kampf) was very open about this and detailed his views and opinions for the world to read. The world never took him serious until it was too late. More importantly, the German people didn't take him seriously until they had lost their freedom to chose another leader.

No one I know is making any claim that Obama or Bush are or were secretly trying to exterminate a race or religion like Hitler did. The American people and certainly this American citizen would rise up and stop any such nonsense. However, if we allow our freedoms to be eroded by the Federal government, and allow our economic well-being to be destroyed by government interference, we will have the same economic and personal result that Germany had prior to the start of WWII.

The German people loss their personal freedoms and with that loss, 50 million people died in a horrible war that could have been prevented. Instead of waiting for economic disaster that will certainly invite our enemies to attack us, lets allow our economic and individual freedoms to flourish. Fund our missle defense program and support our military with the weapons and leadership they need to keep us safe.

Lets stand up for what is right and make our elected officials accountable for their actions. And if it requires some to compare the evolution of National Socialism and the horrible actions of Adolf Hitler to this or any other administration, let it be what it is.

Remember, our Congress passed a stimulus package that no one read. They had no idea what was in that package. We now have a healthcare bill that will more than likely be as big or bigger and that too will not be read.

Are you willing to trust your freedoms to 535 elected officials that don't read the legislation that will become the law of the land? If your not afraid, you should be. If you don't care, then get out of the way of those of us that do!

These canine ladies are due for their distemper shots

Where was this outrage when Bush was compared to Hitler? Just Google and see for yourself. But we do not dare criticize this POTUS. Where is freedon of speech?

How many of you were around when WW2 was taking place? STOP fantasizing and read about Hitler and his Italian accomplace. Don't give credence to people who are trying to undermind our present government.
Pay close attention to some Republicans and others who only want to destroy. Envy and jealousy will make you do evil things.

The Obamanation of this country is right before you left-wing liberals but you're just not bright enough to see it yet. God help you when you do.
Thank god there's someone out there that has the courage to call him what he is. You pathetic liberals, be afraid, be very afraid; he is the 3rd anti-christ!!!!!

To all your liberals; you're pathetic!!!
Also, not to worry about the Republican Party, it will prevail and when it does it will "overturn" everything that muslim and his crooks and theives that he surrounds himself with have done to this country. Before his reign of terror is over someone may have the guts to impeach him.
Bill Clinton did far less and was impeached before charges were dropped; so all you liberals who live in the clouds, hold on, you may be in for quite a shock.
Oh, and how typical of liberals to say "Republicals hate"; again, you people are a sad group. Because of people like you, God help this country and save us from the liberals and Obamanation!!!!!

How very sad the liberals/Democratic party has become. You people elect a muslim with no background and raise him up to "Messiah" status. He's not the brightest bulb in the pack; he can't even complete a sentence without his teleprompter; way to go!!!!! He will go down in history as one of the dumbest, creepiest, and the one person who with his den of crooks and theives destroyed this country in record time.
And yet, you liberals applaud and encourage him. What does that say about liberals and the Democratic party. You people are no better than the muslim. Good luck, you're going to need it.

Since when have activists made non-outlandish statements? Pretty funny this was a story. Not because of the content, but because the same bandwagon whiners were calling Bush, Hitler for the last 8 years. Now, it is a virtual media crime to even remotely infer that Obama's tactics are nazi-esque. Insane. How dare anyone criticize Obama.

Oh, wait, are they killing our budgets like the planes took down the towers? Yah, that was Martin O'Malley and it got less attention then this did nationally.
