Porn Wars -- More to come?

Sen. Andy Harris' attempt to tie the soon-to-be-developed porn policies of Maryland state univiersities with their budgets went down yesterday as his ersthile rival for the 1st Congressional District seat joined the effort to simmer things down over in the upper chamber of the General Assembly. According to Julie Bykowicz, Sen. E.J. Pipkin, a Republican who lost in the congressional primary to Harris last year, said he has been receiving calls from angry constituents who thought debating porn was a big waste of the Senate's time, an argument many have made on this blog. So might we see a rehash of this argument in a Republican primary sometime soon? Could be.

Meanwhile, Sara Neufeld, my colleage over at the Inside Ed blog found this tidbit while surfing education websites (or so she claims...): A high school class in Denver got a sneak peek at a porn film in geography when a substitute teacher happened accidentally upon the regular teacher's private stash. Read the report from the local ABC affialate here. So for all those upset about porn at College Park, it could have been a whole lot worse.

I think Andy Harris was genuine in his attempt to stop this "OPEN" to the public porn at U of Md.
With that said I truly believe Andy Harris should have slept on this issue overnight. Acting on emotion is something liberals do. Taking the time to think through a problem is something conservatives do. Emotions come and go 20 times a day, however, a well thought out decisions takes time. What I have learned throughout the years of raising my kids is never, ever make a rule you can not enforce.

I watched this debate on MPT because I could not sleep and just happened on to it. Harris needs to get a grip and I think Pipkin had it right on the money. Harris would not shut up about it. You send these kids to die for our country and pay billions to do it.
NO PROBLEM WITH IT.
You let them vote when they are 18 .
NO PROBLEM WITH THAT EITHER.
You let them drink on college property and in their frat houses.
NO PROBLEM THERE!
Oh but lets cut funding because the young adults had the balls to stand up for what they belive in and said our government should maybe stay the hell out of every aspect of our lives.. Whats next Harris, no condems at the free clinic because it promotes sex. Get a grip and get working on putting people back to work and figuring out how to spend all the bailout money your getting along with the taxes you break my back with every payday!!!!

I am amazed at the stupidity of college students. Watch all the porn you want. Do all the varieties of sex you desire. But do it on you own dollar not on my tax dollar. Also I guess the UM students want their university diplomas to show a minor in porno.
