O'Malley: Dixon should attend Obama event

On the hotly debated question of whether recently indicted Mayor Sheila Dixon should attend the Barack Obama rally in Baltimore on Saturday or stay home, Gov. Martin O’Malley said today that he thinks she should be there to welcome the next president to Charm City.

“I would recommend that she do her job every day, and when the president of the United States comes to a city, the mayor of that city should be there out of respect,” O’Malley said during a radio interview.

O’Malley also reiterated that he believes progress has been made under Dixon and that he hopes justice is done. And he noted, again, that the investigation has gone on a long time. It’s been more than five years, to be exact. That’s longer than Watergate and President Nixon’s resignation took, the governor said.

1) Governor O'Malley is a predictable politician. What else would he say??

2) Mr. Obama is not the President, yet. Many people will want a copy of the photo with the President-elect and the indicted.

3) Right or wrong, Nixon always chose to spare America a tawdry look at the underbelly of politics. In Chicago in 1960 he refused to go to the courts and in 1974 he chose not to continue the assault on America that had been Viet Nam. How many Democrats have we watched force an indictment or Impeachment and then the nation suffered through a trial.

More excuses from the boy king!
Maryland Democrats certainly know how to close ranks around indicted members!
Too bad the trail did not lead to OweMalley so as to spare all of Maryland!

Well, maybe if she stands with her face in the corner...that I could see.

I'm surprised BOY KING wants Sheila there. I would think he'd recommend against it. After all, having her there will be one more person BOY KING will have to push out of the way to crawl up B.O's butt!!

We're really going to use Vietnam as an example of the "right thing" to do in politics? Wow!

I think Dixon should resign just like anybody, but I cannot stand this pot calling the kettle black nonsense. Dixon ddin't have 9/11 to mask over no-bid contracts to Haliburton like Cheney did with guys like Karl Rove on his bully pulpit saying questioning the Vice President was unpatriotic. That was sickening. That was using the sentiment of a tragedy for the profit of friends. At least Dixon tried to keep the illegal spending in the 6 figure range as opposed to the 9 figures.

Also, I love everyone's shots on "OweMalley" (which is a new one to me, creative). Republican run California is facing $9 billion shortfall I think and begging for bailout money. Many other states are way worse than Maryland and making cuts a hell of a lot deeper. It'd be a lot worse with Ehrlich in there too since there would have been less income heading into FY09 and FY10. I'm just curious where everyone thinks he would have found $2 billion plus the revenue not gained in the sales tax increase? Would we bankroll him to bet football with the Junkies in Vegas and hope he hit?

Understanding President - elect Obama wanted to pass thru Baltimore as Lincoln did .Since he couldn't reconize our mayor, he should've gone thru just as Lincoln did.If nothing else he could 've mentioned Baltimore as the Birth place Thurgood Marshall, the horse he road in on Education. Remember that guy? Would've left Baltimore's majority population with a good feeling about self. Thanks for completely dissing Baltimore.

I have a new respect for Governr O'Malley he's right on this one.
