Breaking News: New Fisheries chief
Tom O'Connell is the new head of fisheries for Maryland's Department of Natural Resources.
DNR officials made the announcement late today, with a press release with this quote from Gov. Martin O'Malley:
“From the time Captain John Smith first sailed into the Chesapeake Bay, Maryland’s fisheries have helped define our culture and drive our economy. Tom O’Connell has the vision, the conviction and the expertise to guide our efforts to ensure sustainable fishery populations remain a birthright for future generations of Marylanders.” O'Connell has been with the department since 1993. He has been best known in recent years for being the department's point-person on the major Asian-oyster study it undertook under the Ehrlich Administration. Results are due out this summer. O'Connell replaces Howard King, the department's longtime director, who left a few months ago.

Ho-hum. Another useless step towards futility.
IF the state actually wanted to cure the problems that exist in the fish industry, they would pass some regulations... with some real teeth.
