Climate Change Teach-In

During the Vietnam War, there were "teach-ins" to inform students about that conflict. Now hundreds of universities across the country on Thursday (1/31/08) are planning similar events called "Focus the Nation" to educate young people about global warming, according to Rena Steinzor, an environmental law professor at the University of Maryland. "It's an appeal to student activism," Steinzor said.

The public is welcome to a free educational session about climate change that starts 9:30 a.m. Thursday at the University of Maryland School of Law library at 500 W. Baltimore Street in the city.  Maryland Environmental Secretary Shari T. Wilson is the keynote speaker.  But throughout the day, other speakers will include author and climate activist Mike Tidwell; Environment Maryland director Brad Heavner; Mike Walker, a senior EPA enforcement attorney; and John Kostyack, wildlife conservation and global warming expert at the National Wildlife Federation.
