Bill would hold witches responsible for predictions
Associated Press correspondent Alison Mutler reports:
There's more bad news in the cards for Romania's beleaguered witches.
A month after Romanian authorities began taxing them for their trade, the country's soothsayers and fortune tellers are cursing a new bill that threatens fines or even prison if their predictions don't come true.
Witches argue they shouldn't be blamed for the failure of their tools.
"They can't condemn witches, they should condemn the cards," Queen witch Bratara Buzea told The Associated Press by telephone.
Superstition is a serious matter in the land of Dracula, and officials have turned to witches to help the recession-hit country collect more money and crack down on tax evasion.
In January, officials changed labor laws to officially recognize the centuries-old practice as a taxable profession, prompting angry witches to dump poisonous mandrake into the Danube in an attempt to put a hex on the government.
The new draft bill passed in the Senate last week. It still must be approved by a financial and labor committee and by Romania's Chamber of Deputies, the other house of Romania's parliament.
Bratara called the proposed bill overblown. "I will fight until my last breath for this not to be passed," she said.
Sometimes, she argued, people don't provide their real identities, dates of birth or other personal details, which could skew a seer's predictions.
"What about when the client gives false details about themselves? We can't be blamed for that," she said.
The bill would also require witches to have a permit, to provide their customers with receipts and bar them from practicing near schools and churches.

Clergy who pray for good weather, abundant crops, the end of war (or alternatively, for the destruction of enemies on the field of war), cure for disease, or the return of the Savior ... all demonstrably without even a modicum of success ... are exempt?

Stockbrokers whose predictions don't pan out should be sent to the rack, the wheel, or the fire.
I lost a bundle in the crash of 1314 and I have a bone to pick with my brokers; the Knights Templar.

On January 9th, Franklin Graham stood before 38000 people in Haiti's capital, in the soccer stadium, to proclaim the gospel. Outside the stadium, people also listened from camps set up for people who are still homeless a year after the earthquake. Many hundreds came forward to make life changing decisions for Christ. Haitian children overflowed the stadium the day before for KidzFest, and thousands joyfully received Christ. "This is the future of Haiti," a Haitian volunteer said, with his eyes filling with tears as he watched boys and girls responding. "Today you see the foundation for the new Haiti being laid. A new Haiti is being built on Jesus Christ." Haiti has long been in darkness. As most of us know, voodoo is big there, and it is actually one of the country's official religions. However, Christ said "I have come into the world as a light, so that no one who believes in Me should stay in darkness." John 12:46. Romania would be best if it follows suit. If witchcraft is big there, satan is only going to be defeated when people of Romania stand up to him. The only way that can happen is through the life changing, and country changing, message of salvation through Christ.

Franklin Graham always plays to audiences that are ignorant, or illiterate, or hopelessly looking for a way out of misery beyond their control. In the case of Haiti, he played to all three. What he offers is just what you offer, made-up delusional crap. Why don't you go down there as a volunteer and put your piety where your mouth is. You might learn something about the real world, but I doubt it, you are thick as a brick.

The best way out of misery beyond our control is Christ. Fact is, satan doesnt like it when people like Mr. Graham present Christ in a situation like Haiti or any situation, and it makes him angry. God bless.

Littel since you just made a positive statement "What he offers is just what you offer, made-up delusional crap" maybe you could share your proof of this for us poor dumb Christians?
God forgive me for saying this, but Clay isn't the only thick brick on this board.

(Clay) Anonymous - The day you can offer up proof that the promised "everlasting life" thing is something that your equally unprovable god creature can deliver up, is the day I will allow you to stupidly twist that last statement into something worthy of response.

Compassion is an organization that helps many thousands of children in Haiti and other countries around the world. It is an after school program, held at a church or community center, that gives children a bible centered Christian education, along with food, clothing, medicine and other assistance. Sponsors can send in money, in addition to the monthly amount for sponsorship, and one hundred percent of that money is spent on that child or that child's family. As proof, pictures of what was bought with the child standing with the items are taken in case any sponsor asks to see what happened to the additional money that they donated. In Haiti after the earthquake, medical equipment and supplies, counseling and shelter was provided for children and their families. Today, churches, housing and schools are being rebuilt, with a water, sanitation and hygiene strategy in place at 44 centers. I have sponsored two children in Compassion for years, and I have received much joy from my sponsorship. Please visit www.compassion.com and read the winter Compassion magazine and learn about what Christ is doing to help kids around the world, including the story about the children who earn money by picking through the trash dump in their neighborhood in the Phillipines. Please pick out a child to sponsor. God bless.

Wow are they serious the religious right make stupid prediction all of the time and they don't come true so why go after the witches ?

Littel I am twisting nothing. I'm simply holding you to your own standard. You made a claim and I'm asking you to prove it. As has been stated before what you state is your personal opinion. Nothing more. That's why you resort to ridicule and personal attacks. As much as you want to believe logic and reason are on your side they aren't. It's a question of what you put your faith in. You've simply chosen something other than God. If that were not true you'd be able to back your claims with something other than ridicule and personal attacks.

Clay it seems like a fine organization. There are many fine Christian organizations doing much to help the children of the world. I don't think that will matter to some here who seem to harbor much anger and hate for others.

Yes, Anon, unfortunately that seems to be true. I almost expected someone to make a comment on how there are many ways to help kids without giving them something mythological. I cant see the point of making comments here if no one else here supports God and what He does and can do for others. I had no intention of getting on here again really. There are others who read the blogs because if you do a search for a certain subject on a search engine, these comments can come up. So I suppose they do get read. But when no one says anything other than to put down what you have said its like why not go somewhere else if I want to make a comment? It gets old, and that is exactly what satan wants Christians to do. Give up, dont even bother. I see it as people wanting to behave as they wish, and they dont want anyone telling them that it is wrong, in God's eyes or anyone else's. I suppose I will still make a comment once in awhile. Have a good one.

clay, how in the world does that have to do with this article? Neither Haiti nor Jesus was mentioned. You know you sound like you need psychiatric help right? or perhaps you shouldnt let pride cloud your vision and make you forget what Jesus is really about. LOVE. ACCEPTANCE. ETC.
Not shoving religion in places where it doesnt belong.... like here where it has nothing to do with the topic at hand

Clay, I'm sorry, I'm a Christian and even I think what you're doing is very unChrist-like. I feel that you are showing a bad example of Christians everywhere. I assure you, most Christians dont rant and rave about how Satan is trying to trick us into doing things. Perhaps you have been taken over by Satan and doing his bidding when you think you're doing God's will. I'm sure I'm being a bit dramatic but do you ever think about that?

Hi. I dont consider pointing out what the devil does as ranting and raving. He is there all the time and we need to be aware of him. He doesnt want Christians to make comments, he wants them to go away. I am a sinner like everyone else. To give up because people try to be discouraging is giving in. Christ pointed out what the devil did quite often. Thanks.

Clay - Perhaps you could explain why this all powerful universe spanning all knowing creator of everything even bothered to create a devil (having been the creator of everything) and why it, or its god/Human hybrid son cannot just crush it out of existence? Why would a creature so powerful enough to create everything, bother to create something that could threaten its domination of the universe?

The answer is simply because we all have a choice, and that includes satan as well as us, as well as being able to choose him or God. God doesnt create evil. He creates us and we can choose one way or another. Otherwise we would just be robots. Does God know which we will choose? Yes. Does he control which we choose? No. He certainly influences it, but we all have free choice. Why didnt He do away with satan a long time ago? Well, even if He did, we could still choose evil. Satan is a trouble maker who has decided to create misery for us here on earth. God didnt decide to do that. God has decided to send His Son to save us from it. The choice is ours. Without satan there would still be evil. Satan is the figure that God can point to that represents evil. God gave the angels a lot of power, and he can and will destroy these angels by sending them to hell. Why didnt He do it sooner to save all the misery on earth? Why create us at all? What good is it if we dont have free choice? God wants us to choose Him over evil. Besides, we only spend a tiny amount of time here on earth and then eternity in heaven or hell. That eternity will make what happened here almost insignificant anyway. For all the "why didnt God stop war, etc, why didnt God see that my brother didnt die in that accident," etc people, what will it mean when your brother is in heaven forever anyway? He will be a lot happier than us. If he is in the other place, maybe you should learn to witness to others to avoid it happening again. Thanks.
