Amish population growing, expanding westward
The population of Amish is growing in North America, and their search for affordable, fertile farmland is sending them into new areas to accommodate a population currently estimated at 249,000, the Associated Press reports.
A study released Wednesday by Elizabethtown College's Young Center for Anabaptist and Pietist Studies shows settlements in 28 states and Ontario. Amish have even been scouting for land recently in Alaska and Mexico.
The number of Amish has increased nearly 10 percent in the past two years alone, and it's more than doubled since 1992.
Nearly all Amish are descended from a group of about 5,000 in the early 20th century.

Comments
It is not surprising, the Amish breed like rutting Duggars, despite the negative effects such irresponsible over-breeding has on the planet.

Bobbie leave it to you to make a completely ignorant and dehumanizing comment. I can't say it surprises me. You've shown on countless occasions a complete lack of compassion or concern for most here who don't share your jaded views.

Moniker Coward Anonymous - As a zero population advocate, who sees overpopulation as the major cause of our current, and explosive future problems, I have no tolerance for selfish over-breeders . I don't care what rationale, what deep seated beliefs, or what view of freedom that is used to justify that which threatens to destroy us, if everyone is not part of the solution to this problem, then those who breed irresponsibly are the enemy of Humanity. THE NUMBERS DO NOT LIE!

Bobbie - You have no tolerance for ANYONE who does not share your ignorant and dehumaizing views. Actually population in the US is stagnant right now so try learning the numbers first. Population growth is in other parts of the world so save your overpopulation crusade for them.

The Amish not only over breed but they in breed and as a result have many genetically transmitted diseases and this has drained Pennsylvania's Lancaster County's medical dollars--because they do bring their kids into the regular hospitals for care--many however do not purchase health insurance. Population is every country's problem. The US is expected to grow in leaps and bounds into the next century--by 2050 we will be more than 400 million strong, our resources will dwindle and nature will rot thanks to so many people sucking at her teats and lungs. We should all be concerned about over population and its devastating effects--the newborns being created will have dwindling opportunities in the overpopulated world. One needs only to go to the slums of Mumbai or Rio to see the vengeance overpopulation wreaks on the very children who are counted as part of the over population.

Moniker Inhibited Anonymous - R Anon has just made the case for who is, and who is not, exhibiting ignorance in this discussion. What will be "dehumaizing"(sic) is when we are fighting each other over the last scraps of bread, or the last gasps of oxygen, if we keep increasing our numbers the way we ignorantly are doing now. An exhaustive study done by the U.N. determined that for the population of the world to exist at a sustainable level, with a minimally acceptable standard of living, that we will have to lower the population to two billion. We can achieve that level through attrition, breeding at a level that will radically lower population (one child per couple) or, do it the old fashioned biblical mandated way, through famine, pestilence and genocidal warfare. THE NUMBERS DO NOT LIE, unlike you, evidently.

I think anonymous' point was your intolerance for anyone who is not as vulgar and grotesque as yourself. The issue is not about world population. It is about your attitude towards other people.
You attack the Amish because they are gentle Christian folk, not because they did something to hurt the planet. We all know that because we have all heard your rants before. So stop whining about the planet and crawl back in your hole.

R Anon save the population speech nothing supports your comments on US population growth it is a myth perpetuated by population control nuts like Bobbie. How much of any growth is by birth and how much by immigration. There are issues in other parts of the world. Population is a problem where it occurs suggesting anything else borders on irresponsible as do your inaccurate comments regarding Amish health issues.
I found this link you might want to look at before spouting off like your buddy Bobbie.

The rest of the world’s growth or misery has nothing to do with the US growth. Like I told your intolerant rude buddy take your crusade where the problem is.

Baby Bobbie, R Anon showed it is him and you who are ignorant as well as arrogant and intolerant. He quoted a figure which he didn’t support with any credible evidence just as you did. I never denied a problem exists simply questioned where it was located. So far nothing he or you said give me cause to reconsider You are using a problem in other parts of the world to fuel your own intolerance and hate of Christians and anyone who doesn’t hold to your opinions. His claims of draining Pennsylvania's Lancaster County's medical dollars is pure nonsense based on his own prejudices. Unlike him and you I posted one of the many links I found on that. You are right about one thing numbers don’t lie. People do when they make up or misquote them as you do frequently.
Dana was also correct when attempting to point out “your intolerance for anyone who is not as vulgar and grotesque as yourself”

If the inconsiderate Anonymouses had any knowledge at all, they would understand that the 4% of the world population that lives here consumes 30% of all the goods, services and resources produced in the world, that we use our military power to grab resources that their silly god mistakenly put under other nation's soil, and that other nations are making claim to those resources as they build a middle-class and try to catch up to us, they would not have such a stupid view that our little corner of the world has little impact on population and resource allocation problems facing everyone, everywhere. But of course, they are privy to all the knowledge they need garnered from their Buy-Bull and the $#!+heads at FOX.

Bobbie – You calling anyone inconsiderate is a joke. There isn’t a more inconsiderate person that you on these blogs. Yes I’m sure those Amish consume quite a bit. Certainly they deserve your contempt for being such resource hogs. Let me clue you in spouting numbers would mean something if you actually provided links or quoted a source that could be confirmed. Since you have a tendency to grossly exaggerate or in some cases make up your stats it tends to make one question them. Actually if inconsiderate self centered arrogant people like you tried following some of the ideas in the Bible, like treating others as you wish to be treated, or putting their needs over your own the world would be a much better place. Instead you feel you have all the answers and go around attacking with insults and ridicule anyone who doesn’t subscribe to your deluded paranoid views and ideas. The very fact you can not disagree without insults tells anyone here all they need to know about you and your beliefs. Maybe when you grow up you’ll learn how to frame a logical argument without resorting to ridicule.
