Guest post: Why are we afraid of a nuclear Iran?

Shaukat Malik is a Muslim-American Certified Public Accountant from Potomac. A native of Pakistan, he arrived in the United States in 1980.

We have all seen the devastation of nuclear bombs as confirmed by Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Even today the good people of these two cities are affected by the nuclear radiation injected by these bombs. To be honest, the enormity of long-term devastation that a single nuclear weapon can cause is such that it prohibits their use.

Countries that possess it use it to scare would-be invaders, and each other. It is more like a permanent “Boo!”

Iran is a one-party Islamic theocratic state ruled by mullahs who follow the Shia brand of Islam. The mullahs control Iran’s oil revenues. By using an interlocking system of financial patronage they exercise complete control over a strong regular army and a large private army, the Basijs (religious police) -- estimates include 7.5 million men and 5 million women ensuring compliance with Islamic laws -- and a legislature whose candidates must be approved by the council of mullahs in Qom, Iran’s Vatican. Like the Soviet Union of past, Iran is a police state, in which you are under constant surveillance.

Still, Iran is much more democratic than, say, Saudi Arabia, as women are part of the workforce. But it is not a democracy, as opposition to the party of God is not allowed. The opposition we saw last year on the streets of Tehran -- which was only opposing election results and not the writ of Imam Khomeni, who has the same stature as Pope in the Catholic Church -- was quickly suppressed.

There is a long proxy war being fought between mainly Sunni theocratic Saudi Arabia and theocratic Shia Iran. This war is being fought through sponsoring Islamic parties, including the Hizbollah in Lebanon, which wish to establish theocratic states all over the Muslim world. The viciousness of this war is evident on the streets of Baghdad, where men have been executed in Shia and Sunni neighborhoods and their bodies dumped on the pavement.

The suicide bombers in Afghanistan are infused with a religious ideology that promises paradise to them and to all the innocent people they might kill.

A state that is run by the dictates of religious ideology is a dangerous animal; a theocratic state cannot be challenged by anyone in opposition, because to challenge it is tantamount to committing blasphemy.

Who is going to stop emotional mullahs from threatening or even using a nuclear weapon? It is precisely this fear of mullahs that has caused the permanent members of the U.N. Security Council -- including China and Russia, hitherto supporters of Iran -- to vote at last in favor of a sanctions resolution against the Islamic republic.

The only country with nuclear weapons in the Middle East is Israel, but Israel is a functioning democracy with a vibrant opposition that will ensure that the bombs are purely for deterrence -- a permanent “Boo” to would-be invaders. However, Israel should also open channels of communication with Iran through Turkey to iron out issues with Iran. War has never solved anything, as is evident from Iraq and Afghanistan.

For Iran to join this club, it must shed its theocratic status and stop supporting Shia movements in Lebanon and elsewhere whose aim is to establish theocratic states using Iran’s model. This is precisely why the world would never tolerate or allow theocratic Saudi Arabia from acquiring a nuclear bomb. Saudi Arabia must learn from Iran’s experience and stop supporting theocratic forces in the Muslim world that wish to impose one-party, Taliban-style states.

It is up to Iran to make a choice. The oil- and gas-rich nation has the potential to transform itself from a pariah state into one that is the envy of the Middle East.

I think Israel and Iran must talk to iron out differences on Hezbollah, & Hamas.
The only way to counter Iran's mullahs is to engage them in dialogue and force them to open up to ideas of liberty and individual freedoms.
The author correctly points out that notwithstanding Iran's theocratic status the women of Iran are charging ahead in this controlled environment.
Education is free in Universities and Irani women are making good use of this facility. You will see them in many jobs. However, Iran's isolation and fear of the world from its religious ideology cannot be removed without the Mullahs opening up the freedom gates.

You can say what you want. Even with a different government in Iran, there will always be some nut around the facilities who wants to kill as many as he can. Look at the man pleading guilty in New York. Do you think he would cause more harm if he could? There wont be any deterrent unless someone promises that Iran will be bombed similarly, even if no one knows where it came from. Unfortunately that is the only thing that could deter Iran or North Korea.

Please do not compare mullahs of iran with those of Saudi Arabia.

There is a striking difference between the Shiaism and Wahabism/talibanism.

Shias value a human life and doesn't allow killing of any innocent human of any religion. Forget killing, do you know that the mullahs of iran preaches us to not even read Quran in a loud voice at our homes if its going to disturb the neighbour.

However, nobody remains silent on atrocities. If you are gonna hit anyone, they will respond so that you dont mistaken them to be weak.

That's what is Iran doing, probably. How can you ask a democratic country to not do what you and other countries of the world as already done. Any party in power will try to supress the opposition party by one means or the other. Does it mean, you blame the entire ideology of that country.

Shias are staunch followers of Imam Hussain (a.s.) who preaches humanity. Even Mahatma Gandhi has praised him for his non-violence.

The writer is hugely mistaken who has grossly mistaken the ideology of Shias by comparing the mullahs of iran with that of those terrorists mullahs in taliban. Just because mullahs of of one sect teach innocent killings, doesn't mean mullahs of all sects teach the same. May Allah elevate you from your shallow understandings grant you some wisdom to understand facts.

So Clay let me see if I understand your position.

You believe that “someone” should nuke the Iranian people if there is a nuclear attack somewhere by someone “even if no one knows where it came from.”

Is that correct Clay?

Can you reconcile that position to Christianity? Can you force some out of context biblical verse to suggest that mass murder is a good thing?

Absolutely not Cyrus. What I said was, unfortunately, what else would they listen to? If they listen to Christ and His message of peace, maybe they wouldnt need to build the bomb to begin with. Neither Israel nor Iran follow Christ. North Korea also for that matter. Thanks.

OPEN ID:
I thought Shias like Sunnis were Muslims and followed prophet Mohammad as the messenger of God. There only argument was with respect to succession issues concerning Ali the Son-in-law of prophet Mohammad.

How are the Irani Mullahs any different from their brothers in Saudi Arabia.?
They both seek power and wish to suppress the poor population.

There is no political opposition in Iran and Iran like Saudi Arabia is a police state. Mullahs are bad news that is why the whole world is on Iran's case.
The author has not criticized Shias. He is merely identifying them as the brand of Islam followed in Iran.
Why do you think the whole world is worried about Iran and its mad mullahs developing Nuclear weapons?
As an American I am concerned for the Safety of Israel, which is an American Ally and the only democracy in that region except Turkey.
So do not lecture us about Imam Husain , Khomeni and Mahtama Ghandi.
The issue here is dangerous Nuclear weapons falling in the hands of Fascist Iran that is completely controlled by the Mullahs and their stooge Ahmed Nijad and the Iranian Republican Guard their Foundations like the Buniyad Foundation.

Thank you Raymond for highlighting the true character of Iran's mad Mullahs.

Khomeni like the Saudi King is the absolute ruler of Iran. Through the Bunyiad foundation created by confiscating the properties of Iranians now living in Exile in the USA and Europe is used by the Mullahs to fund their goons like the Basijs(Religious Police) and also payments to martyrs of the Iran/Iraq war.
By paying monthly stipends to millions of Irani's the Mullahs control Iran's population almost like a communist regime.
It is a very sophisticated system of control through religion & Charity.

Give a little here and take a whole lot there.
In the end there is no opposition in Iran and none is tolerated.
If the Mullahs Got the A-Bomb it would be a black-day for the Middle East and the entire world.
America should also do something about the Mullah/King alliance in Saudi Arabia.

We need Saudi Oil but we do not need their terrorists. We must remember that 15 of the 19 murderers on September 11 came from our Ally Saudi Arabia. Maybe Obama instead of Bowing should ask the Saudi Monarch to grant freedoms to his suppressed population that is being recruited by Al-Qaeda.

Finally.

WE WILL NOT ALLOW A NUCLEAR IRAN.

I

Clay,

... and the US currently maintains an arsenal of 5,113 nuclear warheads because it doesn't or does listen to Christ? I get so confused.

Ever since the creation of the Islamic Repub. of Iran in 1979, it has been the avowed enemy of the U.S. and Israel, and always will be. For it to acquire nukes would be a prelude to WWIII, period. Its plan appears to be to deny it's building them, after which it will secretly give them to Hezbollah to use them in suicide missions in Israel and elsewhere, and continue to deny knowledge. The U.S. is just plain weak to stall when it should do to Iran what it already to did to Iraq to insure the safety of our grandkids.

Study Islam's history free anytime with the Historyscoper and see for yourself how deep its rabbit hole goes:

I agree with most of the posters here about Iran. How will the world handle this situation? Now it seems to be with an "oh well" attitude.

TL Winslow:
Let us not get carried away an write off 1.6 billion people and shove them down a Rabbit hole.
Turkey, Malaysia, Indonesia, India(160 million Muslims) Qatar, Bahrain, etc are all countries that are on the mend.
Even Saudi Arabia's princes visit Israeli Casinos to Gamble. They travel via Jordon!!! Yum Yum for Israeli Casino owners.
So all is not lost.
Please do not carry our Mass condemnations like Hitler's Germany.
Israel must repair bridges with Turkey already in progress and approach the Mullahs. You will be surprised how sweet the smell of money is.
Turkey is buying drones manufactured in Israel and those contracts have not been affected by the recent snafu by IDF.

RAYMOND and Seerat-un-Nisa:

Comparing the brand of Islam followed in Iran with that of the one followed in Taliban is indeed ignorance. You are simply misguiding other readers.

To me, you have no apetite for facts. You have decided that Iran and their Mullahs are culprits. Now you are going all out to impose that point of view on others. Are you a paid american agent ?

I dont care Iran has a bomb or not. I dont care whether it effects your security or not. Neither do i care about your so called democratic israeli brothers and sisters.

All I am interested in stating the fact that Shiaism does not promote terrorism, innocent killing of humans in the name of religion or anything. It is for that reason I mentioned about Imam Hussein a.s. Otherwise, I have no intention to lecture you my friend. Since I know that you are highly rigid and stubborn about your point of views - very much like the talibanis.

Will you support Iran having a nuclear bomb if it were to be a so called truly democratic nation ?

Will you support Saudi Arabia having a nuclear bomb now ?

My dear friend, its all convoluted. You have your point of views because of your insecurity and scare of another country. So does the people of other country.

You are no one to decide who should do what. You do what you can and others will do what they can do. Merely, you passing your ignorant judgement is not going to help the masses get to the root of the problem - the problem of nuclear arms race.

Enlightened ID:
Answer a few questions since you are so highly educated.

Does Iran have an opposition?
Does Qom vet every candidate for election.
What to the Basij do in Iran and what is their role?

You are a US citizen pretending to be a foreigner.
Does Iran follow prophet Mohammad or Imam Husain who is not even a caliph but the Prophet's grandson.
Who is supporting Hizbolloh(Party of God)
Do you think theocratic states is the answer . In a a democratic system and a proper opposition with a government that is accountable to the people we can feel safe. This is the case with Israel.
However in theocracies one is opposing God and it is a different animal who obtains his sanction from God.
The fact is that no body will ever use the Boo.
However the world is afraid of Iran's Mullahs

i agree nuclear waepons in iran
why israel ? and no iran ?

ps; sorry i m from from

IGNORANT RAYMOND:

your question - "Does Iran follow prophet Mohammad or Imam Husain who is not even a caliph but the Prophet's grandson" proves/reeks your gross and callous ignorance.

Please note the below:

Imam Hussain a.s is the rightful successor of Imam Hassan a.s. who is the righful successor of Imam Ali a.s. who is the rightful successor of Prophet Mohammd a.s.

All of the above and their successors teach exactly (without any deviations, note, without any deviations unlike others) what Prophet Mohammd has taught.

My dear ignorant friend, since you are not hungry enough to learn the truth, why do you rake up such issues. please stick to your plan to criticizing iran and its politics to canvass support for your malicious agenda of capturing iran's oil. You do that now because you know that it's going to be impossible if iran were to have a nuclear bomb.

you should be more worried about pakistan than iran. Do you nuclear bomb is safe there ? Your best friends - the taliban are their immediate neighbours, far away from iran. But I know, you will not, because there is no oil in Pakistan.

There was oil in Iraq, and you attacked them on WMD! Did you find any WMD ? I suppose, your ignorance may force you to say YES. But that will only be YOU unlike the entire world.

Think my friend, think.

I am a citizen of peace unlike you.

Hope you get some RAYS of intelligency, mr. RAYmond

Open ID/Anonymous:
So Enlightened one!!! I am quite knowledgeable about Islamic matters since it is all in books and on Google.

ARE YOU SAYING THAT PROPHET MOHAMMAD WAS A KING WHO IS SUCCEEDED BY HIS SON-IN-LAW AND HIS CHILDREN. THIS ONLY HAPPENS IN KINGSHIPS LIKE WE HAVE IN SAUDI ARABIA.?

ARE YOU SUGGESTING THAT PROPHET MOHAMMAD WAS A SHIA? SINCE THE IRANIS SEEM TO BE FOLLOWING HIM VIA HIS GRANDSON WHO WAS KILLED OVER SUCCESSION ISSUES WITH A YAZID( ALSO A MUSLIM)

From what I understand Prophet Mohammd was an ordinary merchant who was in the employ of his wife and became the messenger of God. On his death Ali was not appointed Caliph. Besides Caliphs are not Kings and were democratically elected. That is why Ali did not succeed the prophet and Umar or Abubakar did.

In any case please stop spreading wrong information about a religion of 1.6 billion out of which you a "Shia" are a minority and are simply not stating the facts.

ACCORDING TO HISTORY PROPHET WAS SUCCEEDED BY Abu Bakar. Here are some facts.

IGNORANT/SILLY RAYMOND

How tacitly you have shifted your discussion to sects of Islam! You started from politics, nuclear bomb and now you have reached Shiaism and non-shiaism.

Since you have cited a link from wikipedia, why didnt you read the below link also which gives information about Shiaism. Why didnt you cite that information here.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shia

Succession is an issue amongst the muslims and we are living with it. That remains an issue because we have different versions of history with us. You are not qualified to comment of the accuracy of the history of each of the sects has with them.

We respect each other's beliefs. That's it. You are no one to question them, Mr Ignorant.

See my friend, that's your problem. Select the information which suits you, make use of it to your advantage while rejecting the other info squarely.

You might not be able to tell even the names of your 10 grandfathers starting from your father. And there comes Mr. RAYMOND who passes a judgement about the history of Islam. How wise, Mr. Raymond.

This is why I say, please stick to your plan to criticizing politics of iran, But O my God, you dont have enough meat in your arguments about the legitimacy of Iran having a nuclear bomb. So what do you do ? You just label the iranians as terrorists. Game Over.

The world hates the word terrorism and so the world will hate iran also. Propoganda started. You collect support and attack iran, capture its oil. Ha Ha ha.....Mr Raymond......

You think the World is a fool....?

Why are you not responding to my other questions ? Producing here below for kind reference again:

Will you support Iran having a nuclear bomb if it were to be a so called truly democratic nation ?

Will you support Saudi Arabia having a nuclear bomb now ?

Do you think nuclear bomb is safe in Pakistan ?

Why didnt you attack pakistan since there has been more of military dictatorship there than democracy....!

I am sure you dont have answers. So what does Mr. Double standard RAYMOND do ? Get dirty, throw baseless allegations against Mullahs/sects of Islam, study selective history on wikipedia! and cite links, blah blah blah - all sitting in his room so that the fuel for his car and home never runs out........

Instead of investing so much energy on replying to my posts, why dont you try to think with a calm and neutral mind. But you cannot, since you are an American who is very worried about his fuel rather than anything else. Right Mr. Raymond ?

MR RAYMOND please get out my way and let me address others here, especially muslims:

Dear Others,

Please give it a thought. Why should it matter to Mr Raymond - whether H. Ali is the successor of Prophet Mohammad or Hazrat Abu Bakr. Why is he raking up such issues.

All he wants is gather some support Middle East Audiences who do not follow same brand of islam, instill hatred amonst them and then Divide them. Thereafter, Isolate a nation who is progressing on its own without the help of Americans and then attack it.

P.S. - I am not an American or an Iranian. So I am blessed with a neutral view unlike our IGNORANT/SILLY/JUDGEMENTAL RAYMOND

So I am blessed with a neutral view...

What are you, Switzerland?

SO YOU HAVE CONFIRMED THAT A SON-IN LAW SUCCEEDS A KING!
WHY DON'T YOU GET A TIME MACHINE AND CORRECT HISTORY.

NO WONDER NON-SHIA MIDDLE EAST IS SO SCARED OF AN IRANIAN BOMB?

IRAN SHOULD NEVER HAVE A BOMB

GO TO WIKIPEDIA AND CORRECT HISTORY.
STOP CALLING NAMES. U R A RACIST BIGOT WHO IS OBSESSES WITH SHIAISM AND THE FASCIST STATE OF IRAN.
YOU ARE LUCKY ISRAEL HAS NOT BOMBED IRAN AS YET.

ISRAEL COULD SEND IRAN BACK TO THE DARK AGES IF PEOPLE LIKE YOU DO NOT WAKE UP

Why am I typing in capital letters.
Because it is very hard to get something into the head of a Taliban-clone like you.
Both You and the Taliban are crazy people out to promote your brand of custom-tailored Islam.
Sunnis are the majority . So, there must be something right about them.
In any case you have not made a single argument except foaming at the mouth like a crazy person who hates America.
I have met many Iranian Americans whose assets worth 20 Billion were stolen by Khomeni when he illegally deposed the Shah and transferred the loot to the Bunnyaad Foundation. This money belongs to Iranian Americans and must be returned to them

Open ID:
I just checked out your website.
OOPS! God made a mistake by not listening to his messenger Mohammad and not honoring his wishes and intentionally denied Ali's right to succeed the Prophet as a Caliph.

ARE YOU ON DRUGS?
IF GOD WANTED HE WOULD HAVE MADE SURE THAT ALI SUCCEEDS THE PROPHET.
IT IS BY GOD'S WILL THAT THERE WERE THREE CALIPHS BEFORE ALI FINALLY GOT HIS CHANCE.

SO GOD WAS WRONG. I HAVE CHECKED WITH MY MUSLIM FRIENDS AND MOHAMMAD HAD NEVER MENTIONED SHIAISM OR FOLLOWER OF ALI PHENOMENAN.
ALI WAS HIS SON-IN-LAW AND TRUSTED COMPANION LIKE ALL THE OTHERS.

I AM REPRODUCING YOUR WICKEDPEDIA LINK HERE:
SHIA ISLAM FOR READERS TO MAKE UP THEIR MINDS.

Shia Islam (Arabic: شيعة‎ Shī‘ah, sometimes spelled Shi'a), is the second largest denomination of Islam, after Sunni Islam. The followers of Shia Islam are called Shi'as but the terms Shiites or Shi'ites are common Anglicisations. "Shia" is the short form of the historic phrase Shī‘atu ‘Alī (شيعة علي), meaning "the followers of Ali" or "the faction of Ali".[1]

Similar to other schools of thought in Islam, Shia Islam is based on the teachings of the Islamic holy book, the Qur'an and the message of the final prophet of Islam,[2] Muhammad.[3] In contrast to other schools of thought, Shia Islam holds that Muhammad's family, the Ahl al-Bayt ("the People of the House"), and certain individuals among his descendants, who are known as Imams, have special spiritual and political authority over the community.[2][4] Shia Muslims further believe that Ali, Muhammad's cousin and son-in-law, was the first of these Imams and was the rightful successor to Muhammad[5] and thus reject the legitimacy of the first three caliphs.[5][6]

Shias regard Ali as the most important figure after Muhammad. According to them, Muhammad suggested on various occasions during his lifetime that Ali should be the leader of Muslims after his demise. According to this view, Ali as the successor of Muhammad not only ruled over the community in justice, but also interpreted the Sharia Law and its esoteric meaning. Hence he was regarded as being free from error and sin (infallible), and appointed by God by divine decree (nass) to be the first Imam.[7] Ali is known as "perfect man" (al-insan al-kamil) similar to Muhammad according to Shias

So people can now read and learn about our Shia friends in Iran Iraq and elsewhere in the Muslim world

ANONYMOUS:

The link of wikipedia does not say anything of the Sort of you have mentioned in CAPS.

Whatever you have said in CAPS is only out of your sheer frustration and probably lack of a better argument. Please remember, a debate between shias and sunnis and their fundemental beliefs is not what are commenting upon here.

All I can say here is, to sooth/smack your unused senses, if Allah wanted to make everything happen in this world as he wants to, there was no point in granting us (humans) the freedom - the will, which is only with human beings. Remember - ashraful makhlooqat ???

Your argument is absouletely crass. According to your theory, whatever happens in this world, happens by will of God-Allah and that is the truth and thats what should have happened. This is why not H. Ali but others were appointed successors. And that's why everybody should agree to that, ignoring Gadheere Khoom and other historical episodes.

I cant stop laughing on such an idiotic comment.

What you mean is everything on this earth happens by will of Allah/God. But there are followers of many religion - surviving, prospering and even harming muslims. That means there are other Gods/Allahs as well. Probably, the Allah you believe in has less Power than the God of Other religions.....ha ha....

And probably, all the Allahs/Gods have a peace agreement amongst them to let all their followers co-exist.

Are you out of your mind, Anonymous.

I can understand, you dont like Shiaism, you hate them.....and so on....

But this is not the forum to display your hatred or arguments about Shiaism, Sunnism etc. Please go elsewhere.

Kindly Chuck off ANONYMOUS and let Mr RAYMOND display his answer about Why Iran should not have a nuclear bomb.

THE ISSUE HERE IS ABOUT NUCLEAR BOMB AND NOT ABOUT SHIAISM OR OTHER SECT OF ISLAM.

There are still non muslims in the world. That means there is no Allah. Similarly. for other religions also.

Nadler Applauds Final Passage of Tough Sanctions Against Iranian Regime
Thursday, 24 June 2010
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman Jerrold Nadler (D-NY) applauded the House’s final passage of the Conference Report on H.R. 2194, the Comprehensive Iran Sanctions, Accountability, and Divestment Act of 2010. This legislation, expected to be signed into law by President Obama, will ensure that the U.S. follows through on its promise to hold the Iranian regime accountable for its dangerous and illegal policies.

“There is perhaps no greater threat to the peace and security of the world today than Iran,” said Nadler. “The Iranian regime supports terrorism and funds terrorist groups, and it is bent on increasing its power and influence in the strategically important region of the Middle East. In particular, Iran presents an existential threat to Israel, one of our closest allies. As such, the consequences of Iran developing or otherwise obtaining nuclear weapons would be dire. This legislation contains a vast array of provisions which will put a significant squeeze on Iran. For example, it imposes sanctions on companies that sell refined petroleum products to Iran, targeting a key weakness of the Iranian regime. And it punishes foreign banks that support Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps, cutting off its funding.”

Nadler submitted the following statement to the Congressional Record:

“Madam Speaker, I rise in strong support of the Conference Report on H.R. 2194, the Comprehensive Iran Sanctions, Accountability, and Divestment Act of 2010.

“There is perhaps no greater threat to the peace and security of the world today than Iran. It supports terrorism and funds terrorist groups. And, it is bent on increasing its power and influence in the strategically important region of the Middle East.

“In particular, Iran presents an existential threat to Israel, one of our closest allies. Its leader, President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, is a Holocaust denier who has threatened to wipe Israel off of the map.
“As such, the consequences of Iran developing or otherwise obtaining nuclear weapons would be dire. It instantly would further destabilize the Middle East and potentially lead to a nuclear arms race there.

“Moreover, unlike with other countries where nuclear deterrence has worked, it may not with Iran. Its leaders have proven themselves to hold views that are extreme, irrational, and fundamentalist, and who knows for what crazy reasons they would hold the world hostage and risk their own annihilation. These leaders also could share nuclear materials or weapons with terrorists bent on killing innocent people here and around the world, like Al Qaeda. We cannot let Iran have that power.

“This threat from Iran has been building for years, but, unfortunately, during the previous Administration, very little was done about it. While the rhetoric of former President George W. Bush was tough on Iran, the reality was much different. For eight years, they dithered while Iran built its nuclear capacity.

“President Obama recognized the danger from Iran and immediately adopted a sensible policy of big sticks and big carrots. We began by engaging with the Iranian regime, a necessary part of any sensible strategy. Not only are discussions a worthy first step, they are necessary if for no other reason than to explain to your adversary the severe consequences of their continuing to be a threat to peace. We also need to start with negotiations to show that we tried and thus lay the foundation for strong efforts down the road, should they be needed. Unfortunately, Iran rejected these diplomatic overtures and continues to loudly defy the international community.

“Therefore, we must ratchet up our economic pressure. That is exactly what we are doing. Thanks to the leadership of President Obama and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, the United States was able to convince other nations to adopt new sanctions on Iran. These sanctions, adopted by the United Nations Security Council, will further isolate Iran from the world economy and, as they are multilateral, represent the optimum mechanism for economic pressure.

“Of course, we also can bring the economic might of the United States to bear, and that is what we are doing today with H.R. 2194. This Conference Report contains a vast array of provisions which will put a significant squeeze on Iran. For example, it imposes sanctions on companies that sell refined petroleum products to Iran, targeting a key weakness of the Iranian regime. It punishes foreign banks that support Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps, cutting off its funding. It authorizes state and local governments to divest investments from firms supporting Iran’s energy sector and better enables other investment managers from similarly divesting funds.

“Implementing these and the other sanctions in the Conference Report on H.R. 2194 is a critical next step in stopping Iran from becoming a nuclear power. While military options always remain on the table, we do not want to reach a situation where the choice is between having to engage militarily and allowing Iran to have nuclear weapons. Either of those two options is racked with problems, and so we must do all we can to see that it does not come to that.

“I want to thank Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Howard Berman and all other Members who worked so hard on putting this legislation together. Like Chairman Berman and others in Congress, I have endeavored to make sure that the threat from Iran is recognized and dealt with. Those of us who care deeply about this issue know that for the safety of Israel, the United States, and the entire world, we must act and we must act now.
“I encourage all Members to support this Conference Report. Thank you, and I yield back the balance of my time.”

SO WHAT DO YOU HAVE TO SAY TO COGRESSMAN NADLER HUH!

RAYMOND:

I am really disappointed with the quality of your arguments. Do you have a mind of your own ? Do you also know that there are other Americans also who are against the current policies of invading iran. Why dont you read that also.

you are simply not coming out with anything new and worthwhile, ignorant raymond. You are going on with your same old story. 'I AM AFRAID OF IRAN HAVING A NUCLEAR BOMB AND I SHALL NOT ALLOW IT WHETHER ALLOWING OR DISALLOWING IRAN HAVING A NUCLEAR BOMB IS LEGAL, ETHICAL OR NOT?'

The first part of the content you have posted is only blah blah blah blah which in short means -'If Iran were to have a nuclear bomb - it is a threat to our national security'

The second part of content only shows ways and means to stop iran having a nuclear bomb by slapping economic sancations etc.

Raymond: You have forced yourself to be convinced that Iran should not have a nuclear bomb because if they will have it, the first thing they will do is use it against America and Israel.

It is natural of Americans to be scared, since they have gone all out to convince Iran that we are your staunch enemies. Also there are other reasons which I have mentioned in my earlier posts.

Now think from Iran's point of view (i am sure, you can't, given the lack of neutrality in you, but read at least) - American's and Israeli's are our biggest enemies. They want our Oil. They already have forcibly made other oil rich countries in the Middle east as their allies. Soon or later they will force us to be their allies and would want to control us. They would also want us to forget our enemity with Israel. But We have a sovereignty of our own. But we will have to let go that, why, because we do not have power. Why do not we have power, because we do not have a nuclear bomb. Ok, lets have it and then we can do business at peace and with whomsoever we want to. We can then assert our point of views also just like they do. America and Israel will not treat us as underdogs then. We will be able to live with dignity then. We will be our masters then.'

RAYMOND: I think its futile to argue with you. You are a stubborn person who just refuses to bring quality to the table. Therefore, let's not waste each other's time. I suggest you live with your ideology and let others live with theirs.

Bye.
