Obama most admired by Americans, again
For the second year in a row, President Barack Obama is the most admired man in the United States, according to a survey by USA Today and Gallup.
Obama was cited by 30 percent of respondents as the man they admired most, the third highest score by a president since Gallup began the year-end poll in 1948. The only presidents to score higher were George W. Bush in 2001, following the attacks of Sept. 11, and John F. Kennedy in 1961, his first year in office.
On the women's side, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and 2008 Republican Vice Presidential Nominee Sarah Palin finished in a virtual dead heat, with 16 and 15 percent.
For the second year in a row, George W. Bush finished a distant second to Obama, this time with 4 percent. Former South African President Nelson Mandela finished third with 3 percent.
Two faith leaders appeared among the male top five: Pope Benedict XVI and the Rev. Billy Graham tied with Glenn Beck and Bill Gates for fourth place, all with 2 percent.
Rounding out the top five women were Oprah Winfrey, third with 8 percent, Michelle Obama, fourth with 7 percent, and Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and Queen Elizabeth II, tied for fifth with 2 percent.
Elizabeth can be called a religious leader, too, inasmuch as her titles include defender of the faith and supreme governor of the Church of England.

You must be kidding ? obivously they haven't got a clue to what this man has done and is doing to the rights of Americans every where?
Things that he has been involved in since his lies stated with the one that he "Never used any other names but Barrack Hussien Obama III? to the Acorn crimes?
Its obivous to anyone that has a brain that a man who lies and denies his faith isn't a man that deserves the praise that the people that voted for him for the so many things he said he would do but hasn't?
Journalists have covered for him and protected him from the scruinity that they need. To be an objective reporter, they have sold their souls, and their profession and the american people a lie that he deserves such recongnition and and the proof of this is the awarding of the noble peace prize for NOTHING?

I thought I read a poll where the great majority of Americans were dissatisfied with his performance in office. But they still respect him most? Sounds like a conflict in poll results to me.

Those who admire Barack Obama do so regardless of who (and what) he really is and what he's really done.
Financially, he's done more damage to this country than any other elected official. The debt this inept socialist and his comrades have heaped upon America is outraegous. Of course the two groups who could care less about this, the extemely wealthy and the extremely poor, could care less.
His choice to head Homeland Security and his idiotic desire to water-down of the Patriot Act are examples of his leftist political ideology and ludicrous aproach to protecting America.
Obama's past relationships, his lies about transparency and backroom deals are horrific.
Most admired by America... Yeah right.
He's nothing more than a socialist con man and the American taxpayers are the mark (victims).

I am ashamed that my country has produced people like the first four posters above. They represent a disgusting sub-sect of our population that haven't got a clue about what the hell is going on in the world and they clearly do not understand anything about ethics, representative democracy, political manipulation (of which they are victims), and I believe they are not capable of having an independent original thought.
Mary Bee, your "(and what)" above is nothing more than a reflection of your racism, as if we all don't know what you mean by it. You people are turning my country into a $#!+ box of ignorance and stupidity, and once you have trashed The Constitution, pay-back is going be a bitch when we take it back and re-institute its rule of law.

My dear Mr. Littel
Your comment about race is laughable.
"and what" is a reference to his socialist political ideology. You, Robert, inject the race issue into my post.
As far as the U.S. Constitution is concerned, I'd suggest you do some homework on how Obama and the democrats are stomping on the constitution like Bill Ayers stomped on the American Flag.
You, sir, are the one who belongs to a "sub-sect" of the population that doesn't have a clue.
I noticed you didn't bother to respond to any of the issues mentioned by me or the other "sub-sect" posters here. Your comment about a representative democracy is quite shocking given the unethical politics of your party since January.
One thing you and I agree on - It's going to be "a bitch" when the constitution is re-instituted. That should happen immediately following the conservative takeover in 2010 and 2012.
And, by the way, how do you know the color of my skin?
Now, go look in the mirror. That's where you find a hateful, hardheaded human being.

Fake Anonymous - How many names do you post under in this forum? Evidently, you are also Mary Bee (by your own admission above). I would expect no less dishonesty from someone who thinks the Brown Shirt, Jack Boot mentality of ideas we fought a bloody war to erase back in the forties, are somehow reflective of anything our Constitution stands for. We have met the enemy, and he is YOU!

First, I don't entirely understand why this posting appears in In Good Faith. That being said, I have some questions for those deluded folk who term President Obama a "socialist," or charge him with "trashing the Constitution." What specific evidence do you have for these slurs? He came to office in very perilous times for our country. He did not cause those perils, and his remedies -- albeit ambitious -- were hardly draconian, given the situation. And they are showing results. He promised to wind down the ill-advised, unprovoked, distracting, and totally unnecessary war in Iraq --- and he is delivering on that promise. He promised to renew and strengthen our focus on the much-more-justified war against the Taliban in Afghanistan --- and he is doing that. What, pray tell, is your problem with any of that? Also, I cannot understand this litany of complaint that he has spent too much time "apologizing" for the United States. If you read history, particularly (but hardly exclusively) recent history, we have much to apologize for. The President campaigned on a promise to heal some of the divisions that have kept us from being an honest citizen of the world. He has done that with grace and firmness (Did you even listen to his Nobel speech or his WestPoint speech??) I won't dignify the "Moslem" and "birth-certificate" garbage with comment, by the way...except that to say that it DOES have a whiff of racism about it.
I do have my quarrels with President Obama -- mostly that he has not pursued (or been able to pursue) as much of the progressive agenda he described during the campaign. And, yes, I do fear that the rabidly ill-informed "tea-bag" folk will work to deprive him of the small modicum of support he now has in Congress

BankStreet - The situation is far more severe than your concerns about how the Right treats our legitimately elected leader. The far Right-wing and their corporate masters are attempting to regain and maintain control by something that can only be classified as the Weimarization of America. In the aftermath of WWI, the German people established their first democratic government, with the founding of the Weimar Republic in 1919. Faced with the debilitating effects of the mess that fell upon Germany after the downfall of their Monarchistic autocracy, the new government struggled to cope with problems far worse than what we are facing here today, but that has not stopped our Rightist elements from adopting the same tactics German rightists used to topple their fledgling attempt at democratic rule. The Rightists there, used fear, bigotry, hatred, lies, intimidation, and the ignorance and stupidity of a demoralized war weary population, to take control of the political processes and erase any hope of freedom and sanity.
Today, the tried and proven path has been taken again by our own extremist elements, in what will prove to be a similar outcome, if we adopt the cowering, simpering attitude that the majority of good Germans took in the face of an intractable bulling machine. All that is required is that we good citizens do nothing and by allowing them to be perceived as having a valid point of view in the public forum, we are doing just that. They must be identified for whom and what they are, their ignorant doctrinaire minions must be slapped down at every turn and we must never lose sight of what our forefathers envisioned when they took the first bold steps toward the equalization of all persons in the body politic. The American Right-wing and the Autocracy of ultra-wealth that strives to control them, are determined to keep things just as they are, if not stiffened by more repression and loss of rights and freedoms, in a flag waving patrio-jingoistic orgy of applied and glorified stupidity. We must stand up to the bully, because they have no intention of backing down. They mean to win at all costs and we must not allow it, now, or ever.

The jingoists come from all sides Robert--they seem to have no affiliation except to themselves. The American Right is obnoxious, but the American Left has within its ranks equally rank idiots. All over the world it is the rule of the plutocracy--in China the Communist Party bosses, in India the so called secular Congress Party--mainly a family dynasty-- with intermittent appearances by people outside the prominent political families--alternating with the Hindu chauvinists, in Eastern Europe, the old guard has reappeared with pretensions to democratic ideals of equality--but hoarding wealth all the same--in Russia the oligarchs are the old communists and the KGB oppressors--they poison their enemies and control oil, natural gas and other resources, in the Arab states--no holds barred--it's the Emirs and their Bedouin cousins--look around you Robert--left, right and center--the ideology has nothing to do with the hoarding of wealth--in Cuba for instance, or in Venezuela, in Ecuador or in Honduras, the guys who would redistribute the wealth and revolutionize the economy are the new nabobs--living in splendor, disenfranchising common folks, changing constitutions to stay in power for ever, distant from the concept of passing down the baton, imprisoning the opposition and keeping the poor even poorer by stifling all private enterprise and freedom to create ideas.
The thought police are out in Iran--engendered by the very folks who revolted against the autocracy of the Shah. Revolutions are spawned to replace one autocracy with another--one empire comes toppling down and another replaces it quite fast--look no further than Zimbabwe for that. The whole damn world is ruled by the iron fist of the plutocrats--Right, Left or Center--when they get to the top they all resemble one another and feed off the masses. Sickening bastards.
