Mary Ellen Heibel, subject of miracle investigation

Mary Ellen Heibel, the Annapolis woman whose apparent cure from cancer is being investigated by the Catholic Church as a possible miracle, has died from pneumonia. She was 71.

Mrs. Heibel had been diagnosed with terminal cancer in 2004. A member of St. Mary Roman Catholic Church in Annapolis, she began praying for the intercession of Blessed Francis X. Seelos, a 19th century Maryland priest.

Her metastic cancer vanished. The church has opened an investigation to determine whether it was the miracle that could seal the canonization of Seelos as a saint.

Mrs. Heibel leaves her husband of 53 years, Dr. John Heibel, four children and 11 grandchildren. We extend our deepest condolences to her family.

If this lady had her cancer vanish, I am sure God had something to do with it. However, what criteria would the church use to determine whether or not Mr. Seelos did? For all we know, God had Mrs. Heibel pass away to heaven before the Catholic church could use another person in the silly practice of praying to late mortal humans, making her death a result of the practice instead her life. Can someone show me that this didnt happen? Thanks.

Yes, I completely believe in miracles, and to have your cancer disapear lilke that, is pretty miraculous. It will be interesting to see how this turns out and in fact, if Mary Ellen will be deemed an actual Saint. Pretty incredible.

Thanks for sharing with us.

Sheila

I think it is Mr. Seelos who is being considered, not Mrs. Heibel. I believe in miracles also. Thanks.
