After Obama flap, ND president wins another term
The Rev. John I. Jenkins, the Notre Dame president who sparked controversy last spring when he invited President Barack Obama to speak and receive an honorary degree last spring during commencement, has been re-elected to a second five-year term as president of the nation’s most prominent Catholic university.
Archbishop Edwin O’Brien of Baltimore was among the first of dozens of American bishops to criticize Jenkins’ decision to honor Obama, who supports abortion rights.
But the trustees of Notre Dame passed a resolution last week expressing their “respect and full confidence” in Jenkins, saying he has nurtured an environment in which “the Catholic faith and intellectual tradition are celebrated and lived,” the Associated Press reports.
Jenkins has announced plans to travel to Washington in January to take part in an annual anti-abortion march.

Well...there you have it. ND has just proved itself to be an institution seriously lacking in Catholic morality.

UNBELIEVABLE! This clearly means the board is also thumbing its collective nose at the Church and the bishops. I hope those parents who are seeking a university that will teach their children the TRUE teachings of the Church will be courageous enough to withdraw their children and their financial support of this now secular university. And Bishop D'Arcy will find a way to withdraw the "catholic" from ND

Geesh -- the Bishops dropped the ball on this one totally. Interdict people -- that what's needed to bring Notre Dame into compliance.

Shows where the Catholic church is headed--to extinction. Bankruptcy in the Delaware and the Eastern shore diocese, inviting Anglicans to join (a sign of desperation induced by falling numbers, can't be a sudden relaxation of doctrines or a magical vaporization of intolerance) and so on--the smell of the fall of the Vatican fills the air! Most people are on to the God hoax and the Catholic Church has perpetrated this hoax in the most egregious fashion, by allowing a bunch of bachelor boys, fattened on the meat of their rituals and drunk on the wine of their power to oppress the rest of the Catholic humanity with their fiats. Not washing anymore, this attitude, even with confirmed Catholics. So the guy who invited Obama to Notre Dame stays. Hurray! He should. He committed no sin. The trustees of Notre Dame have seen the writing on the wall. Come into the 21st century catholic folks! You are going to die anyway, but if you don't move from your intransigence about abortion, contraception, divorce and the rest of the realities of modern life you will die faster. The trustees didn't do this because they like Obama. They don't want Notre Dame to be washed away with the rest of the outmoded Catholic detritus.

The bishop must act decisively and remove ND's privlege of billing itself as being a "Catholic" institution.

Anon – How exactly is making it easier for Anglicans who wish to return to Catholicism an act of desperation? You gave no reason why the Church should change any doctrines except the same immature excuses my kids gave when they wanted to do something they weren’t allowed. All the other kids did it or now days things are different. That’s hardly a valid reason to support any changes. I do believe someone accused you of being a disgruntled ex-Catholic. At the time I dismissed the idea, but the more I see your attacks on the Catholic Church the more they may have been right about you. About the only thing you said that made any common sense was that the ND President should stay.

It is quite obvious ND is following its own agenda - Supporting the murder of babies by inviting Obama, Supporting Gay Marches by paying for them = enough time for action - They do not support the Catholic Teachings - Excommunicate the lot of them enough is enough = You are either Roman Catholic or NOT

Well, I was named after an ND player/coach. I use to bleed blue and gold. No longer! I was shocked at players raping young women. That ended my addiction to ND. They are full of decay and rotten to the core. People need to stop enabling them to continue this fantasy that they are Catholic. They are not! They have not been Catholic since Hesberg was in charge. He was wolf in sheeps clothing, leading many astray. Shame on ND.
