Lutherans consider split over gay clergy

Conservative members of the nation's largest Lutheran denomination will decide in a year whether to remain or form a new denomination after the church voted to affirm gay clergy, the Associated Press reports.

Some 1,200 people attended a meeting of Lutheran CORE over the weekend. The group comprises members of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America who are unhappy with the churchwide assembly vote last month to allow gay men and women in committed relationships to serve as clergy.

Lutheran CORE leaders have urged members to withhold financial support for the Chicago-based denomination of 4.7 million members. ELCA Presiding Bishop Mark Hanson has warned that such a boycott would devastate the mission of the church.

Perhaps Bishop Hanson should of thought of that before he forced this upon us. Did he really think we(Lutherans) would just accept setting aside God's word for the sake of tolerance and political correctness? Two things that are ruining our society! I will also not be supporting the ELCA financially any longer.

Just another example of people allowing satan to come into their churches and split things up as much as he can. Look at the mess in the Episcopal church. And this is all supported by our president. Why would he be against gay clergy? So satan has come into our government at the highest levels and it is much worse than one of the Kennedy's fooling around at a party or something like that isnt it? It is official approval of what he wants.

Clay - You're making some rather ridiculous accusations. Are you saying the President is an agent of satan now? Why even mention Kennedy? This entire issue has nothing to do with government. It’s an issue for the Lutheran Church. Are you thinking up this nonsense on your own or does it come from your Church? If it’s coming from your Church you need to find another one because they are seriously mistaken in their teaching.

By the way Robert, forgot to tell you kudos to you. Thanks.
