Guest post: How to deafeat the Taliban, Part III
Shaukat Malik is a Muslim-American Certified Public Accountant from Potomac. He left his native Pakistan in 1972 and has been living in the United States since 1980.
Religous laws supporting Taliban ideology must be amended in Pakistan and Afghanistan.
The so-called Hadood ordinance to enforce Sharia in Pakistan, and certain laws incorporated into the Afghanistan constitution -- especially those relating to family laws and women -- provide the Taliban the opportunity to use these laws as part of their manifesto for setting up an Islamic kingdom run by a caliph.
Sharia/Hadood laws in Pakistan, if fully enforced, are not very different from what the Taliban are prescribing. Both restrict minority and women's rights and are biased in favor of men when it involves matters concerning divorce & polygamy.
Religous and right-wing parties in Pakistan are sitting on the fence for political gain when it comes to dealing with extremists living in Madrassas all over Pakistan. Time has come for the Pakistan Peoples Party, which enjoys a majority in parliament, to repeal the Hadood ordinance promulgated under false pretence by a military dictator. This will have the powerful effect of forcing extremist/Taliban sympathizers to come out in the open, should they opt to oppose this legislation under the "Burqa" of 1,400-year old Sharia law.
Without doing this, the environment for viable economic activity cannot be created and the Taliban, as direct decedents of the "Mujahidin heroes" who fought the Soviet infidel, will continue to destroy humanity on both sides of the border.
The legislative action should be accompanied by a sweep of all madrassas in Pakistan and the arrest and removal of Taliban/extremists hiding with the help of fascist clerics. In addition, all madrassas should be converted to regular schools by incorporation into the district education system.
It is not possible to kill all Taliban without removing their support system. Using drug production for pharmaceutical use, creating jobs and denying them safe haven in madrsassas will cut out their supply of new recruits.

You mean descendants not decedents. We want them to be decedents--if they are decedents the world would be a better place. Your article could have been summed up short and sweet as follows: The Taliban, descendants of the mujahidin heroes, should be converted to decedents and sharia/Hadood laws should be abrogated to salvage Pakistan. Keep hoping. Pakistan is an Islamic state. It has no wish to become a secular state and the Pakistan Peoples Part has no power to make it so. The Taliban will hide among the people, mingle with the civilians, look no different, speak no different, who can tell the difference; they will lie low in their sleeper cells, the US will be lulled into security, Saudi Arabia will feed the Taliban's maws as usual and then BAM bombs and bullets will rain again. The sharia and the Hadood and all the other Islamic mumbo jumbo, which you yourself, an erudite man, are loath to relinquish, giving belabored religious explanations for what the Prophet meant in previous posts, are great tools in the hands of the plutocrats of Pakistan to control the people and keep them ignorant. The bread and circus of Islam is a political tool in the hands of the rich to keep the poor thinking that the Prophet wanted it the way the oligarchs want it. This keeps the rich rich, the poor living in hovels busy with their sufferings and Pakistan rolling along as an Islamic nation. America is an ignorant fool for imagining that years of political exploitation of the poor will cease and Pakistan will change for the better with the SWAT valley sweep. Unless Pakistan treats its poor with equity and justice, unless it really behaves as a democracy, unless it stops splitting hairs about what dead prophets meant about this or that millenniums ago, it will continue to harbor terrorists. And let's not forget Kashmir, an eternal bugaboo in Pakistan's flesh. Pakistan needs her terrorists to keep bothering India.

You are indeed a good speller. Thank you for commenting and correcting my spelling mistake.
Pakistan through its various dictators acting as mercenaries in the interest of self-preservation is now populated by a large number of extremist Muslims.
The ancestors of the Taliban, the Mujahideen were collected from all over the world and trained by Pakistan Army & the United States to fight the Soviet infidel. Madrassas were built all over Pakistan with America's nod and Saudi money.
This has been going on for thirty years and the end result is mad Taliban and disruption of civilian life.
Sharia/Hadood laws are the backbone of Taliban Ideology. The enforcement of these laws and setting up a government with a spiritual head/Caliph /Khomeni is the goal of these mad zealots. They would like to go back 1400 years and will eat “Manna” for dinner. Supported by drug-money and thugs Taliban are not as simple and ordinary as they appear. They have taken a leaf from the Inquisition in Christianity and use fear and public humiliation at the end of gun to enforce their brand of made-up Islam
While controlling Swat these crooks used Robin Hood tactics by seizing land from wealthy owners and giving it away to poor tenants. Of course the land was never theirs to give away in the first place, but through this fraudulent move they were able to convince some locals.
The Taliban through their madness have finally offered Pakistan’s government a chance to repeal Sharia & Hadood laws and transform Pakistan into a secular country like Turkey where the majority religion is Muslim.
Pakistan police must be re-trained and Judiciary organized to deliver quick justice. The Shariat courts should be dissolved and merged into the regular court system.
India must remove its forces from Kashmir and allow the Kashmiris' to prosper and lead a normal life. This will automatically marginalize fighters in Kashmir.
India cannot move the Earth- plates away from Pakistan. India must capitalize on making peace with Pakistan. After all it shares, language, culture, food and a history of thousands of years. The British colonized India and ruled by dividing Hindus & Muslims and turning them against each other through clever manipulation, and finally culminating in massive bloodshed in 1947.
