Students taking anti-Islam message to school

A Florida church that has made a ministry out of spreading messages against Islam has launched a new protest this week using children, The Gainesville Sun reports.

On the first day of the new school year Monday, a 10-year-old elementary school student was sent home after showing up wearing a t-shirt that read “Islam is of the Devil,” according to The Sun. On Tuesday, three more children wore the shirts.

The shirts, which also include the Gospel passage “Jesus answered I am the way and the truth and the life; no one goes to the Father except through me,” were produced by Dove World Outreach Center.

On its Web site, DWOC describes itself as “a New Testament, Charismatic, Non-Denominational Church that believes in the whole Bible and that we are to act in response to the word of God in order to change the times we are living in.”

The church has drawn protests in Gainesville with signs carrying what Muslims and others say are anti-Islam messages. Senior Pastor Terry Jones has described the effort as a “great act of love.”

School officials say the shirts violate a district dress code that prohibits clothing that may offend or district other students or otherwise disrupt the learning process, according to The Sun. They have given students the choice of changing them or going home.

"It's pretty offensive, isn't it?" Islamic Association of North Florida President Saeed R. Khan asked The Sun. "Particularly in a school setting where you are trying to create an atmosphere where people are supposed to respect each other and live with each other, where we have people of every ethnicity and every religion."

One of the children sent home on Tuesday told The Sun that the message is aimed at the religion, not its adherents.

"The people are fine," 15-year-old Emily Sapp said. "The people are people. They can be saved like anyone else."

Jones told The Sun that spreading the church's message was "even more important than education itself."

Although I agree that Jesus is the way and the truth and the life; no one goes to the Father except through him I don't recall him ever saying that we needed to demonize those who choose not to follow him. I think church leaders need to go back and read the bible again because I seem to recall things like love your neighbor as yourself and turn the other cheek.

In Muslim majority countries Muslims do more than wear t-shirts; they persecute and kill Christians, just because they are Christians. They are taught to hate Christians and Jews in their text books! Why don't I hear Saeed R. Khan complaining about that? The Dept of State puts together the INTERNATIONAL RELIGIOUS FREEDOM REPORT every year. Google it and read it. Be warned. It may be a little "offensive" (sarcasm).

Ravensfan might want to actually find out what turn the other cheek means. It does not mean to let people walk all over you. The Bible also mentions enemies and Islam is the enemy of the free world.

NY Muslims:Koran Says to Terrorize Them, so we Have to Prepare Weapons~Video

This story made http://detentionslip.org ! Check it out for all the crazy headlines from our schools.

"It's pretty offensive, isn't it?" Islamic Association of North Florida President Saeed R. Khan.

Yes, Islam IS offensive.

Many of you need to read up on the teachings of Islam. It does not persecute Christian or Jews. Rather, it recognizes them as "People of the Book" because all three religions worship the same God. They all know the works of Moses, and Enoch, and Elijah, and Abraham. They all revere the actions of these people. Muslims regard Jesus as a very high prophet, second only to Mohammad in the order of God's prophets. As a matter of fact, Jesus is mentioned in the Qur'an in around a hundred different ways, and in some stories not mentioned in the Bible. So, before you spout of against the world's second most popular religion, realize that Islam is a religion of peace (from the same linguistic root as the word for "peace.")

America is becoming such a vile country filled with religious fanatics. These people are no different than the Taliban. Religious extremism knows no faith or religion. Christian extremists can just as easily start bombing people and places they do not agree with.

Alex you are the one that needs to read up. Islam calls for the extortion and dominance of the "People of the Book".

YUSUFALI: Fight those who believe not in Allah nor the Last Day, nor hold that forbidden which hath been forbidden by Allah and His Messenger, nor acknowledge the religion of Truth, (even if they are) of the People of the Book, until they pay the Jizya with willing submission, and feel themselves subdued.
PICKTHAL: Fight against such of those who have been given the Scripture as believe not in Allah nor the Last Day, and forbid not that which Allah hath forbidden by His messenger, and follow not the Religion of Truth, until they pay the tribute readily, being brought low.
SHAKIR: Fight those who do not believe in Allah, nor in the latter day, nor do they prohibit what Allah and His Messenger have prohibited, nor follow the religion of truth, out of those who have been given the Book, until they pay the tax in acknowledgment of superiority and they are in a state of subjection.

Just because Islam is the 2nd most popular religion does not mean it is good for non-Muslims or Western civilization.

It has such a large following because of birthrates and people are scared to death to leave Islam. Also proselytizing of other religions is illegal in Islamic countries. That is nothing to be proud of.

Islam means the submission to God.

Islam is derived from the Arabic root "Salema": peace, purity, submission and obedience. In the religious sense, Islam means submission to the will of God and obedience to His law.

Islam also tells Muslims to terrorize non-Muslims.

YUSUFALI: Remember thy Lord inspired the angels (with the message): "I am with you: give firmness to the Believers: I will instil terror into the hearts of the Unbelievers: smite ye above their necks and smite all their finger-tips off them."

YUSUFALI: This because they contended against Allah and His Messenger: If any contend against Allah and His Messenger, Allah is strict in punishment.

Please take the con somewhere else.

It is surprising to me that many of these posts resemble posts on radical Islamic sites as well. You must be reading the same misinformation that they are. And this just perpetuates the hate on both sides.

Only those with open hearts and open minds from all walks of life will be able to raise us all above the distinctions and differences which divide us. The originators of this T shirt are as far from Christianity as the perpetuators of Islamic extremism are from Islam.

Imam Salim Chishti

Please people wake up! The soulution to all our problems is to renounce all religion and dump it into the trash can.
RUBBISH.

Matthew 5:39 But I say unto you, That ye resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also.

Christopher L I respectfully suggest that you are the one who doesn't know what it means.

Actually SKEP the solution os to actually follow the beliefs like love your neighbor and turn the other cheek. Hardly ideas I'd want to see dumped in the trash.

The idea of combating the evils of Islam by having kids wear such T-shirts is just dumb, as well as counter-productive because it makes people think that Moslems are victims of bigotry, when, in fact it is the Moslems, themselves, who preach and teach religious bigotry in every mosque and Moslem school. Better that these kids should be taught to help enlighten others about what is in the Koran. For example, here is just a small sampling of the Islamic supremacism and religious hatred and bigotry that is propagated by all the Islamic religious authorities and accepted by those Moslems who take the Koran seriously:

--“ the (only) religion (acceptable) before God is Islam." (3:19)
-- " If anyone desires a religion other than Islam, never will it be accepted of him." (3: 85)
-- “You are the noblest community ever raised up for mankind.” (3:110)
-- The unbelievers among the people of the book and the pagans shall burn forever in the fire of Hell. They are the vilest of all creatures. (98.6).
-- Surely the vilest of animals in Allah’s sight are those who disbelieve. (8.55)
--The unbelievers are your inveterate enemy. (4:101)
-- Mohammed is God's apostle. Those who follow him are ruthless to the unbelievers but merciful to one another. (48:29).
-- It is unlawful for a believer to kill another believer, accidents excepted. (4:92)
-- Believers, take neither the Jews nor the Christians for your friends. (5:51)
-- Make war on them until idolatry shall cease and God's religion shall reign supreme. (8:40)
-- Fight against them until idolatry is no more and God's religion reigns supreme. (2:193)
-- The true believers fight for the cause of God, but the infidels fight for the devil. (4:76)
-- We will put terror into the hearts of the unbelievers. (3:151)
-- I shall cast terror into the hearts of the infidels. Strike off their heads, strike off the very tips of their fingers. (8:12)
.

I have no problem with anti-Islamic tee shirts, as long as the anti-Islamism isn't being used as a proxy by evangelical baptists to force their Southern Caucasian Jesus down our throats.

To Christopher...

The fact that the verse you qouted mentioned ANGELS (8:12) only shows how eager you are to demonize Islam. If you read the verses properly and in context you will understand that God was talking to, inspiring the ANGELS and not Muslims during this battle in Badr!

Not unless of course you want to make your own dictionary and make muslims synonymous to the word angels...

Now that's pretty tough for you to chew since you already made up your mind to hate and demonize Islam and Muslims...

Sad, yes sad indeed...

As a Muslim, I find it depressing how people of all faiths try to hurt each other. I think this verse explains it all,

"Those who believe (in the Quran), and those who follow the Jewish (scriptures), and the Christians...and (all) who believe in God and the last day and work righteousness, shall have their reward with their Lord; on them shall be no fear, nor shall they grieve." The Qur'an, 2:62.”

I know in the Qur’an it says to fight those who don’t believe, but it also says only to fight the unbelievers when you are the one being attacked and it also says to lay down your weapons if your enemies want to stop fighting or make peace. Just because some people manipulate the teachings of the Qur’an doesn’t mean the whole thing is evil. Islam, Christianity, and Judaism believe in the one true God and teach us to help our fellow man. Its is God’s job to judge his creations, not ours.

Willy it's sad that people twist scripture whether Jewish, Islamic or Christian to promote hate.

Fundamentalist Christians, go to hell. We've had enough of your hatred and attacks and it's now time to fight back.

"In Muslim majority countries Muslims do more than wear t-shirts; they persecute and kill Christians, just because they are Christians. The difference is that we have this little thing called the Constitution and the Bill of Rights in this country, both of which ensure the free practice of religion (or the freedom to be without religion). The USA has no official religion. We never (officially) have.

And why is it in these arguments the people who want to bash Muslims always use the example of oppressive Muslim countries to prove their point? Example: "why should America care about or be respectful to Muslims when in this Muslim country over here, they persecute and kill non-Muslims?" That is the stupidest logic I have ever heard. So, we--a nation with a history of respect for human and civil rights (at least on paper)--should mimic countries that have no respect for human rights? Despicable.

"Fundamentalist Christians, go to hell"

That sounds pretty hateful to me. May I suggest you practice what you're preaching and lose the hate.

BARE NAKED ISLAM is a blog that shows where sunni have killed shia muslims and chpooed them up like pigs. pictures of girls with acid thrown in their faces for not cooking right. refusing to marry an old man.

Islam said in the quran which allah wrote that he is the greatest deceiver, liar, schemer. Bible said the deceiver of the world was devil named satan 600 yrs before Mjuhammad was born. Blacks are cursed in quran 3:106, and called ugly nappy headed stinky, pug nosed sign of bad diseases, Hadith 9:162,3. Black men are less than a donkey's penis Ishaq 243. IS THIS RIGHT. QURAN 65:4 SAID SEX WITH BABY IS HOLY. iN iSLAM A GIRL IS GROWN AT 9 BECAUSE mUHAMMAD SEXED AISHA AT 9.

Hate has no place in Religion or Society. Those who hate only confirm their twisted mind. This applies to all Muslims, Christians, Jews, other religious and non religious people. Action of few does not reflect the whole body. There are good and bad people in all society, that bring pride and shame. So to my Muslim, Christian, Jew and others brothers and sisters, be the best you can be. We live in a wonderful country, our diversity is our strength, we are all children of God and we live on earth for a short time, in grand scheme of things; let us respect one another such that our children would be proud of us, not ashamed of us. Let no words in t-shirt or bad deeds of a few bring the worst in us all.

Shalom, Peace and Salaam
