Shake up in administrators in Baltimore County schools

Baltimore County appears to be shaking up some of its top administrators.

Tom Rhoades, the executive director of research and accountability, for the Baltimore County public schools is no longer working for the school system. Word is that he was given 30 days notice that he would have to leave.

Michael Goodhues, chief information officer for the Office of Technology, was moved to be the fiscal officer in the Department of Fiscal Services.

I haven't been able to learn why the changes, but the school system did just get a new deputy superintendent.

Ms. Bowie, you've written confusing information here. Has Mr. Rhoades already left or was he given 30 days' notice by the powers that be? Or is he giving them 30 days notice? It's not clear.

They knew too much? The one who never really retired continues to call the shots. It is simply unbelievable! The system needs new leadership and a fresh start. Until then? We cannot expect change until the new board demands change for the good of the students in Baltimore County. Why has this been allowed to continue? It is appalling and incredibly sad. The climate of fear and chaos continues to reign. Our kids deserve better...we can only hope that Mr. Hairston will act on his own message to make the right things happen for children and stop the insanity.

There needs to be a shake-up in Baltimore County! The County needs to begin to offer more Charter Schools and more Transformation Schools. The County has only ONE Charter School!
In the area of Windsor Mill/Woodlawn the schools are over-crowded and the Middle Schools and Woodlawn High have never made AYP! When it comes time for Middle School it is the luck of the draw. Maybe your child will get into a Magnet School or it is time to pay for Private School. We NEED more School Choice! Baltimore City is offering MANY school options, the County needs to get on board.

Really!?? Charter schools are the answer? Your misinformation about the Woodlawn schools and the “successful Baltimore City charter schools” can be corrected by simply visiting www.mdreportcard.org. Take a look at the data – charter schools in the city are not excelling in student achievement. In fact, Woodlawn Middle and Woodlawn High have a better track record on MSA than the charter schools in Baltimore City and the one in BCPS. Woodlawn High School has MET AYP for six of the eight years of data reported, and has consistently MET AYP since the 2007-08 school year. As usual misinformation goes into print and maligns the reputation of schools and communities. True transformation requires commitment from the entire community. Try getting involved in supporting your community schools instead of pouring money into the pockets of entrepreneurs who are creating marginally successful, or failing, “for-profit” charters. And please . . . check your facts before you throw our community schools “under the bus”.

@So very, very sad...good call on the "knowing too much." My guess - more to follow. Hint - only one middle school made ayp without safe harbor

Where did Dr. Judith Smith go? and why?

The organizational charts on BCPS.org reflect a vacancy in the office of Executive Director of the Dept. of Research, Accountability & Assessment (http://www.bcps.org/system/org_charts/pdf/Department-of-Research-Accountability-and-Assessment.PDF). They also show Goodhues as Fiscal Officer (http://www.bcps.org/system/org_charts/pdf/Office-of-Budget-and-Reporting.PDF) and a vacancy in the office of Chief Information Officer for the Office of technology (http://www.bcps.org/system/org_charts/pdf/Department-of-Technology.pdf).

Judith Smith has been gone for a year. She was replaced by a Dezmon appointee. And the downward spiral continues...
