Former Prince George's chief appointed to head LA schools
John Deasy, who left the Prince George's County superintendent's job after struggles with the board, has just been named the superintendent of the Los Angeles Unified School District. Deasy, who pushed through reforms in Prince George's moved on to a position with the Gates Foundaiton after leaving Maryland. In August, he took over as the top deputy in LA. His appointment takes effect on April 15. He is viewed as an educator who will work cooperatively with union leaders, charter school operators and others on thorny issues while also focusing on issues of teacher effectiveness.

Was it ever resolved if his degree was legitimate or not?

Isn't this re-writing history a bit? He didn't leave because of his "struggles" with the board, it was that AND the "dust up" surrounding his Dr. degree. Liz - you did the post back in 2008 about this (http://weblogs.baltimoresun.com/news/education/blog/2008/10/prince_georges_says_goodbye_to.html) and am surprised to see that omission here.
While I think he did some good stuff in PG, one must wonder if this guy cannot be straight about his educational background, are there some other flaws.

"who pushed through reforms in Prince George's "
What reforms did he push through?
America's Choice? Gone, having failed.
New head of Special Ed? Gone, she nothing except for her girlfriends.
Any other reforms?
