Text alerts: Breaking news at your fingertips

The Baltimore Sun is now offering text alerts to inform readers of breaking news first and fast.

Last week, those signed up for our text alerts were the first to know that the fate of City College's principal, Tim Dawson, had finally been decided after meeting the Baltimore City Schools CEO Andres Alonso.  Two days before, readers who receive our text alerts were the first to know that a City College staff member had been charged with sexually assaulting a 17-year-old student.

And it would be important to know the above information (about the principal and the City Coillege staffer) immediately because...?

Will city teachers start yet another school year without a contract?

@ Mike, I've been asking the same question on these boards for awhile. I'd really like to know more about the "cutting edge" contract BCPSS is negotiating.... it makes me very concerned.

For the record, I hope Dr. Alonzo realizes that by linking teacher pay/evaluations with student outcomes, it simply will make it harder to find staff willing to teach in the city's most struggling schools (where they need good teachers the most!).

What's going on with BTU and our contract? Can't find updates anywhere... Interesting how they keep taking dues from our checks without bothering to tell us anything that they do; other then plan useless cruises of course!

DC got a cutting edge contract that tied in teacher evaluation. Now they are concerned that so many go FIRED...

I guess that is why it is CUTTING edge.
