Hairston celebrates 10 years as superintendent

Joe Hairston celebrated his 10 years as superintendent in Baltimore County yesterday with the debut of a movie about the successes of his administration. The movie came after a morning of speeches and proclamations from politicians in the county. For a look at the movie, titled "Decade of Distinction," go to the website and click on one of the four pieces.  Hairston is now one of the longest-serving superintendents in Maryland.

The first 7 years of his "reign" were acceptable; however, the last two and a half have been nothing less than a tyrannical dictatorship characterized by a lack of ethical behavior, lies, and self-promotion. We have lost amazing people to other systems while incompetence has replaced quality. I hope that Hairston's grand promotion tour ends with an announcement that ten years is enough...I know it has been for the employees and residents of Baltimore County.

He’s celebrating but no one else is. And, of course there’s a big production using school system resources to celebrate “him” not the successes of the school system itself. He’s one of the most self absorbed people in history. Just look at www.bcps.org--not only is his face splashed on the home page but every other picture in the montage is about him. When will the system named be changed to The Joe Hairston School System?

John, you are so right! The fact that Hairston would even consider making a video about HIMSELF and then actually spend time and money on such a project is unbelievable and absolutely embarrassing for our schools. If any personal acquaintance has his ear at all, please tell him to stop touting himself. It's not about you, Joe.

Comments already posted are exactly my thoughts!!!! Time for a change and he needs to go........for the sake of the system, kids, and teachers. His reign of self promotion is embarrassing and he should leave now!

funny how Dr. Hairston's photo has been plastered on the BCPS home page since the AIM fiasco.....guess someone's getting paid a nice salary to try to make him appear to be a child-centered superintendent. too late.

Bring back Dr. Berger!!
