Dezmon to retire on June 1

Barbara Dezmon, the Baltimore County teacher who rose to become an assistant to the superintendent for Equity and Assurance, is retiring effective June 1.

The announcement was made in one small line on a list of promotions and transfers during the school board meeting last night. Dezmon developed the controversial grading system known as AIM that the county tried to implement last December, but was dropped after public protest.

Dezmon stands to gain financially from the program if it is used in other states.

Don't let the door hit you as you exit! I hope you take lots of your cronies with you. It should have come a long time ago. It will take years to undo your damage to BCPS.

What a great day for BCPS. We can only hope that this is the beginning of "cleaning house" and restoration of honor, forward thinking, and children as the priority for the system. Some days the right things happen...today was one of those days.

I am so happy for the school system. Perhaps the havoc caused by this individual may be stemmed by sensible leadership. There is hope for BCPS once again.

Thrilled at this announcement. I am hoping that this means that Baltimore County Public Schools will turn around without the influence of this person. It would be great if those who put her personal interests above doing the right thing followed her out of the door. The schools would benefit greatly.

Ding dong, the witch is gone! Now we can begin to repair all the damage she did to the system and curriculum.

This is such great news...now, the work will need to begin to repair the damage. What a terrible chapter in BCPS history. I hope they can restore ethical behavior and get back to making decisions that are best for kids, rather than support the personal and financial endeavors of adults.

It will take years to restore the faith and confidence in the administrative leadership of bcps. It would be so much better if the kids and teachers really did come first in this school system, instead of the patting and praising of those who do nothing but add to the burden and take the pleasure away from teaching! These administrators need to come out of their ivory tower once in a while and get back into the classrooms! Wake up and see the monstrous realities you have created in the classroom!

For all of you who think she's gone, you had better think agaain. How long will it take for her to be hired as a consultant? How much influence do you think she had in the appointment to her successor? Did you look at his credentials? At first glance her retirement is a relief but if the AIM debocle has taught me anything it is to remain vigilant and at the ready to advocate for students and teachers of BCPS. We must not let down our guard. Until Hairston is gone also AIM has the ability to raise its ugly head at any time.

Whether you agreed with her or not, Barbara Dezmon did what she did because she believed it was in the best interest of the students of Baltimore County. Enough already! She is a person and she has feelings too. Leave her alone and let her retire in peace!

The previous poster is correct...she has her tentacles deep into the system. Parents, teachers, politicians, (I would say the board; however, they seem not to care) should remain vigilant to be certain that this one who so negatively affected learning in BCPS is not brought back in any way, shape, or form. This system needs time to recover from the damage inflicted by this individual and her friends and their use of BCPS as a source for personal business.

Yes! Take AIM with you!

How come there are all these hateful comments? What did she do? Who are the people that oppose her, and why?

I am a newbie regarding this controversy. What's so awful about AIM?

Dear ES Parent, got a week? Dear Let He Who is Without Sin, have you met Adolf Hitler or Josef Stalin? You are a very magnanimous person and I would guess you are not a BCPS employee. Please forgive our emotional reaction.
