Schools tackle teacher bullying

I found this interesting article in USA Today about efforts in California and Iowa to address bullying among teachers.

I'm no stranger to bullying among students or even helicopter parents. But this one is a first for me.

I just wanted to know if you have experienced this in your school. If so, how did you deal with it? And, do you think that some type of policy is needed to curb this behavior?

Would it be considered bullying if I was told by a fellow faculty member that I was not "qualified" to teach in City Schools because of my race? Apparently I could not understand the students well enough to teach them. That happened the first year I was in the system in the faculty lunchroom. I was speechless.

The bullying in Baltimore County comes from the assistant to the superintendent...it is disgraceful!

Welcome to Baltimore City!!! It is unfortunate, yet bullying among teachers is not uncommon. Unlike bullying amongst students, it is very subtle and has an adverse effect on teacher morale. There are many cases of teachers sabotaging others by taking supplies or accidentally forgetting to complete a vital task. I speak from personal experience and I must admit that I am stronger for it. Regarding administrators....yes, they bully and it is an unfortunate fact of life in education my only advice is to rise above it and surround yourself with good peers. Besides, our students aren't dumb, they realize when a principal or AP is being a bully and they have no respect for them!

Since the CEO gave city school principals complete autonomy of running schools the bullying of teachers by principals is on the rise. This is happening because the CEO is bullying the principals, like in a good old fashion pecking order.
