Philadelphia charter school mismanagement
The Philadelphia Inquirer reported today that a soon to be released report says charter school mismanagement appears to be widespread in 13 Philadelphia schools investigated. In one case, a charter school building was doubling as a nightclub on weekends, but the story details many other areas of mismanagement, including high salaries for charter operators and principals that appear unrelated to the size of the school or the salaries of teachers, incomplete or missing records and conflicts of interest.
The story highlights the need for more accountability and perhaps better oversight by the school district.

Should we be surprised? There are many questions about how some of the charters in Baltimore operate. Look at the "law" then look at the schools.

I am glad that this type of stuff is bring brought to light and only hope that Charters aren't singled out for a closer look. The school I started out in here in Charm City was mismanaged in the 90's when I started and no one looked twice. There is so much mismanagement going on (one only needs to tour the supply rooms of many schools to get a feel for it) at both a school and system level that one wonders how anything gets done. Oh right, the teachers continue to shell out their own money to support the classrooms! And for that great $250 federal tax credit they get.
If only this was just a charter issue...

Take note of the arrogance and entitlement that characterize this "charter movement", part of the seamy underbelly that Baltimore charters share.
