Carroll County assistant superintendent chosen to lead school system
Stephen H. Guthrie, assistant superintendent for administration in Carroll County, has been named superintendent for the school system.
Guthrie will replace current Superintendent Charles Ecker on July 1, when Ecker retires.
Guthrie, who began his career as a social studies teacher in 1978, taught in California and Pennsylvania before arriving in Carroll as a teacher in 1982. Guthrie began working for the human resources department in 1991 and became the director in 2001. Guthrie has held his current position for the past eight years.

Isn't it nice that Carroll County seems to understand the value of leadership from the inside instead of the outside? How unfortunate that the City can't make the same decisions. You can't tell me that the city doesn't have people qualified to run the system and yet we continue to bring in people from the outside because "we need fresh blood." The city's fresh blood goes to other districts and does just fine. Wake up! We can't keep ignoring the talent in the system because, before long, no talent from the city will want to come in and work.

@ VT: Nice, refreshing sentiments, but totally inconsistent with most of the other posts (not yours) seen on these blogs - posts that bash North Avenue, administrators, and staff. Also, don't forget that Bonnie Copeland and Charlene Boston were from the "inside."

@SG2--I would also say that they were not the city "fresh blood" to which I refer. We are losing so many talented AP candidates who see the city as having no future for them and they are going to the counties in droves. Sad, sad, sad!
