Harford County schools appoint superintendent

Baltimore County school administrator, Robert Tomback, is going north to head the Harford County school system. In Mary Gail Hare's story, she says the 58-year-old Timonium resident will take over the school system seat on July 1. Tomback was expected to sign a four year contract. The position came open after the sudden death of Jacqueline C. Haas in December.

Baltimore County's loss is Harford County's tremendous gain. Dr. Tomback is wonderful leader and a very kind man. I am so sad that BCPS loses yet another quality person.

Glad to see encouraging words about Dr. Tomback. No one in Harford County seems to know much about him. Doesn't look like he worked in administration for long so it's hard to say what type of leader he is.

Dr. Tomback was a very respected Principal for many years at Catonsville High, and was well-liked as an area Superintendent for the past two years in Baltimore County. Very honest, direct but civil, and sincerely focused on the needs of students and schools.

I think Harford County is getting a good man for the job. Congratulations to both Dr. Tomback and Harford Co. (I agree with John -- BCPS is losing a strong, effective leader.)

I wish that Dr. Tomback was staying in Baltimore County as superintendent. Harford County may look forward to moving forward! In BCPS, we can only mourn the poor leadership that remains. Why are the best leaving and the worst leading? It is so sad.

Shame on you for throwing your political egenda into the classrooms. Students shouldn't need a permission slip to thear the President of the United States speak. Any idiot who keeps their children home so they don't have to hear the POTUS give a "stay in school" message is an idiot.
