Northwestern's head of special ed arrested on drug charges
I'm bleary-eyed but back in Baltimore, ready for tonight's school closure hearing at Poly/Western. Sounds like I missed more drama yesterday, when the head of special education at Northwestern High was arrested on drug charges at North Avenue. Victoria Carter, 58, was being held on $40,000 bail at Central Booking following a long undercover drug investigation and the arrest of her 29-year-old son, Kenneth Carter. Police say they seized 50 grams of suspected crack from their home and a small amount from the mother's BMW.

A teacher and parent -(translate ;responsibilities on teacher pay) drives a 2008 BMW??? Certainly not this teacher/mother. I could never afford it! Never! This might be a big clue. Sorry for the sarcasm but today I am feeling overworked, underloved, worried about the economy and schools, spent over $100.00 over the spring break for my classroom, and am worried about all the bad press some educators bring to the rest of us!This crazy educator needs to go to jail for a good long while! Shame!

Wise: It was actually a 2004 BMW, not 2008. But still...

I attended the first Parents and School Community Members BCPSS FY 2010 BUDGET TRAININGS Thursday, April 16 6 to 7:30 p.m. @ City Schools Central Office (Cafeteria) 200 E. North Ave.
In my opinion based on my systemic secondary/primary school budget participation on the school advisory team, it was a sorry meeting event. A formated oreintation style meeting. Lead by a inexperienced school staff person who has never participated on a actual secondary/primary school budget panel group. The he is "That One" from The Office of Community and Partnerships executive director Michael Sarbanes. For parents more on scheduled meeting information call 410.545.1870 or visit www.baltimorecityschools.org look for the link *FY2010 Budget Training Schedule.
But if I were you do not expect to engae in any real training at this meeting that will prepare you for the actual real practical experience of budget planning and engaged participation with experienced school staff and administrators. Again the City Schools is short changing citizens, parents and the district school community members with providing highly unqualified phantom aka school system budget trainers.

@My Opinion - How about instead of anonymously sniping on a Blog post that is in no way related to your comment you actually send a message to someone who might value your feedback about this meeting? Everybody always says how responsive AAA is to emails (I've got no personal experience) - why don't you send him one? AAlonso@bcps.k12.md.us

Didn't she get demoted from being an AP at Reginald Lewis?

Charged, not convicted! STOP jumping the gun and assuming this educator is guilty prior to her trail.

I am an educator who is underpaid and overworked, yet I drive a 2006 BMW. I'm definitely not a kigpin. Maybe you should check the current price of vehicles. BMW's are affordable.

To Supportive Colleague,GA, and anyone else I offended with my BMW remark. True arrested but not convicted. To me the car was just symbolic. Read on:
Carter's arrest was the result of a lengthy undercover drug investigation and the arrest March 12 of her son, Kenneth Carter, 29, at their home, Jones said.
Jones, a member of the Central District drug enforcement unit, said that during the mid-March raid narcotics detectives seized 50 grams of suspected crack cocaine in the house, a weighing scale, a small quantity of crack cocaine in the mother's 2004 BMW, which was seized, and nearly $1,000. He said the seized crack cocaine had a street value of at least $4,000.
Cocaine in the home, cocaine in the car, $1000.00 in cash, street value of $4000.00. Guess she is really innocent. Really raised her own kid well! Anyway...why quibble about the car remark? As educators, our responsiblity it to be role models for students! I am sick of people who give us a bad name. I have worked to hard for that.Ditto for all MY colleagues. Your loyalty should be be to your students! Frienship does not override ethics.

Bla, bla, bla…it’s funny how others takes pot shots of other bloggers in lieu of commenting on the subject BLOG Topic. Wake up people! This is America, the home of the free and the brave. Where is justice? “One is innocent until proven guilty” or is it JUST US ….… jumping on the band wagon of what is/was published. E D U C A T O R S, if I recall correctly, you believed that Columbus discovered America until later proven otherwise.

Isn't the topic an educator arrested after an extensive undercover operation for cocaine? (which kills) My judgement will always err on the side of the children that we are charged to teach and protect. What I see here is an attempt to divert the attention from an incredibly awful breach of ethics. With that said, I am done with this topic. I'll await the legal outcome.

No, it's not about the vehicle. (and I can buy and drive what I want, ford has never given me anything). I was just pointing out a stereotype. As for the comments about ethics, you do not know this woman, just what was reported. And since when do all children follow what they might have been taught. And if I hear one more everything but original person say it's about the children, I'm going to scream. Who doesn't know that, but when do we start giving a heck about the teachers? My point is stop passing judgement and being so self righteous.

Without knowing any of the parties involved, it seems pretty obvious to me that the son is the real culprit and target of the investigation. We all need to back off and not make personal attacks based on very little information.
