Bluford Drew Jemison principal removed

The board governing the Bluford Drew Jemison charter school removed its principal, Kevin Parson, over the spring break. He has been reassigned to the central office. Not surprisingly, school officials declined to comment, since this is a personnel matter. Bluford has an atypical structure in that the principal reports to a "head of school," Kirk Gaddy. He is running the all-boys school on his own through the end of the academic year. Carl Stokes, the director of operations, said the board will launch a national search for a replacement.

Two things:
1. Principals aren't removed 2/3 of the way through the school year unless they have done something egregious - maybe even disastrous.

2. Why in the world would they take someone who's just done something egregious (or disastrous) and cycle them back into the North Ave. admin pool? It's like recirculating bad air through a hospital during a Legionnaire's outbreak.

If Alonso is the guy I think he is, I don't think this'll stand. Thanks for reporting it, Sara.

@M.M.McDermott -
I don't know enough about the education world to know if your statement #1 is true. It might be more of a matter of mis-matched vision between the principal and board.

That being said I do have an opinion about your statement #2. I'm not sure how things work in the education world, but in my professional experience firings have quite a bit of red tape and forms involved and most of the time the hope is that people take the hint and quit before you have to jump through all those hoops. And if it is more of a matter of "you're not a good fit for the position you were in," maybe this could be a long term position.

I find it interesting that we had a full run of theories and rumors splashed on this blog when the SFA principal was fired and nothing in this situation. Were these two events all that different? It also leads me to ask - does race and gender come into play in how we discuss these things in the educational community?

MMMcDermott is not too far from the truth. It is not as all surprising to me that once again Kevin Parsons is no longer a principal at what should now be his 3rd Principal position in as many years or less.
This issue with this particular Principal does need to be questioned. Last year I commented on one of the schools that he was Principal of and his lack of authority and lack presence in the school, and how the children ran the school, parents fed up with the school and nothing was being done even when members of the school came to meetings to praise him (after 2 wks) then to condemn him. He left there in mid season, wen somewhere else and then to Bluford. Tenure is still strong in the system which is the answer to the question of :"Why in the world would they take someone who's just done something egregious (or disastrous) and cycle them back into the North Ave. admin pool?"
We will never get the real answer to that question but now we may begin to find out a little more. Thanks once again for proving my comments as being right when it comes to some basic matters that continue to play out on North Avenue.
