Timothy Oxendine pleads not guilty

The 14-year-old former Lemmel student pleaded not guilty today in the fatal stabbing of classmate Markel Williams, 15.

Timothy's lawyer does not appear to be claiming that his client did not commit the crime. Instead, he's making the case that there were extenuating circumstances and Timothy was afraid of Markel and afraid to come to school. He said he's trying to get the case moved to juvenile court, where the punishment would likely be much less severe.

It has always been one of the more depressing things about American justice - the need to claim "not guilty" when in fact one IS guilty. It sends such a bad message - isn't there another way of doing things? I know, I know, it's the worst system except all of the others. I just mean that when everyone knows person Z did something how does it look for them to say they didn't. How about a new plea of "guilty with extenuating circumstances"?

I am kylisha scribner. I am 14 and I attended William.H.Lemmel(Lemmel). When Markel died I was in the 8th grade!! Lots of people Loved him.Its sad when someone close to you is gone in a blink of an eye. And for some dumb reason!!

Markel Williams might have been loved by everyone but in reality he was a bully who picked on an innocent child who made him feel so low to the point where it in deed caused Markel his life instead of the child he bullied. Being bullied is a serious crisis here in America and it is always being swept under the rug because people assume that it's a right of passage for children when really it's not. It is sad that this young man lost his life but he isn't the only one who has lost his life so has Timothy Oxendine he will now spend the rest of his life behind prison walls because of this tragedy that took place. It could've all been avoided if someone had taken the time to actually lend some type of support for not only Timothy but also Markel you have to stop doing something else in your life to help others ask the bullies why do they bully. This whole ordeal could've been avoided if some had stood up for Timothy Oxendine.
