City schools chief of staff resigns

Gen. Bennie Williams, who has been chief of staff to Dr. Alonso since the summer of 2007, has resigned. There have been rumors for months that he was job-hunting for a superintendency of his own, though I'm not sure yet what he's going to do and a press release from the school system says only that he's leaving "to pursue personal interests." A graduate of Frederick Douglass High School, Williams spent 35 years in the Army before attending the Broad Superintendents Academy, which trains former business and military officials to lead public schools.

Gen. Williams will be missed. He's a good guy, and trustworthy. I wish him well!

I agree with SouthernGal2. General Williams' resignation is a huge loss for City Schools.

It's rare to find someone with such integrity. I wish him luck. And I wish us luck too.

So... he left 2 months into his 2nd year... the Broad Residency paid 1/2 of his salary for 1 year...

What the job wasn't worth doing for 1/2 of the pay?

Obvisously, having to do the bidding of AAA personality was too much. A man like the General doesn't take a job with the idea of checking out after 14 months.
