PTA Council's charter revoked
As I report today, the Maryland PTA has revoked the charter of the Baltimore City Council of PTAs. Technically, the reasons for the action were the same reasons the group was made inactive in June: It failed to produce meeting minutes and budgets, and it was operating without a secretary or a treasurer as required. But officials at the statewide organization were clearly peeved that president Eric White and his sidekick, first vice president LaV'ernee Curley, were continuing to operate as though nothing has changed.
In light of the decision, I wonder whether Mayor Dixon will still take White's recommendations into account as she decides whom to appoint to the school board. White was a member of Dixon's panel to interview candidates.

No secretary. No treasurer. No budget. No meetings. Did Eric White do anything besides use the title to get his name in the news?
If the PTA remained on inactive status the leadership would've remained as well. Now maybe they can find somebody who's not terrible or, gasp, competent?

Why would Mayor Dixon have knowledge of an action of a volunteer organization? Maryland PTA has exposed turmoil in the Baltimore City PTA Council and its mismanagement. Maryland PTA has had its own mismanagement with a vice president misusing a Maryland PTA offices and credit card yet chose to keep the matter private. Esther Parker was aware of the misuse of Maryland PTA membership funds. It will be of interest to the BCPSS membership what Ms. Parker has to say. Maryland has had a decrease of council membership and members. If public punitive treatment for local councils is acceptable, Maryland PTA should lead by example and expose its sins.

The Mayor is not stupid. She has knowledge of a lot of things in and around Baltimore if not by her own reading of the papers, but should be kept abreast of the goings on by her advisors. The mayor has expressed wanting to take over the schools, she would be remiss not to know about the situation with the PTA. Additionally, one would think that she has enought saavy to ask about the "standing" of the individuals she appoints to positions.
