Patterson scholarship update
As of this morning, the school reports, it's raised $26,219 in scholarship money, more than three times what was promised by Castle Toyota/Scion.

That's great for some very deserving Patterson students. What is unfortunate is that the money has been raised under false pretenses and that the number would be at $34,000 if Principal D'Anna didn't self-righteously reject the Castleman's rectifying offer. As long as this sham of a story persists, I will persist in insisting that the general public is being hoodwinked. I do love that students will get this money for college, but do even these ends justify the means?

It's nice to see so many people donate to a good cause with no promise of personal gain or publicity!

It's amazing how easy fundraising can be even in these difficult economic times when you have a very specific cause, an immediate tangible result, and put a human face on it. Publicity about your cause never hurts either.
If only raising money for general services which are even more important than the 4 Patterson students was as easy! Can you imagine if all of Baltimore City's Public Schools had air conditioning and clean running water?
I've been to over 25 this year including some of the elites and not a single one had both of these basics.

Isn't it funny how turning a positive into a negative, turned into a postive.
The principal denied the original donor his 15 minutes of fame knowing that postive events in the Baltimore scholl system very rarely see the light of day. Instead, the story taken to the press was of this mean , unyielding businessman who was deprieving these 4 students of a future. Now we sing praises because they have raised 4 times as much. Still seems backwards to me.
