Thank goodness for bottled water

I stumbled across this video on YouTube showing what came out of a water fountain that had been approved for drinking in a Baltimore city school... truly revolting. The video was posted last spring, however, and in November, the school system abandoned years of efforts to fix the water fountains and started providing bottled water for all.

The video is a little misleading. The fountain has been turned on, and when it is running like this, it means they are flushing the pipes. There has been work done somewhere in the system and the pipes have sediment/rust released. That said, I would not drink the water, and as I've commented before, I think the money we're wasting with Deer Park is a crime. Especially when Baltimore City has such good water coming into the city, to have infrastructure that contaminates is a real waste!

Either way, what has been "criminal" is that many faucets in the restrooms are broken. They either don't work at all, or they run on and on. This past summer when I had a leaky hose connection, I wound up with a $400+ water bill. Wonder how much money we're wasting in the schools?

Vote for school truth? Please. Three legislative sessions ago the Maryland House of Delegates passed a bill that would require the water in city schools to meet federal safety standards within a nine-month period. The bill was, of course, sponsored and championed, by Del. Jill Carter. The bill was killed in the Senate by Senators Lisa Gladden and Nathaniel McFadden because Gladden was threatened by Carter's advocacy and popularity with voters. We can thank the two Senators for the present dirty, contaminated water our children continue to suffer today.
