Closed meeting update, or lack thereof
If anybody out there is still wondering about that closed-session city school board meeting last week, I still have no answers.
Last week, I posted about the school board holding a session behind closed doors to discuss "administrative functions." I couldn't find anywhere in the state's open meetings law that permitted a closed session for such a purpose. Given school officials' lack of response to my inquiry, I'm guessing they couldn't, either.

Is there any recourse for the public at a time like this?

Hi Steegness. Thanks for your (continued) feedback. We appreciate it.
The state attorney general's office does have an Open Meetings Compliance Board to consider complaints from the public. You can learn more about it online at: http://www.oag.state.md.us/Opengov/Openmeetings/board.htm

Do you think emails to Dr. Alonso would be helpful, or is he separate from the board?

Hi Epiphany. Enjoyed your post last week on Tom Robinson/Jena 6.
As for Dr. Alonso, I can't offer advice. I can tell you, though, that he is appointed by the school board. He is not a member of it. The CEO often attends the board's closed session meetings, though I don't know if he did in this case.
Take care,
Sara
