Man shot in Pigtown dies
A man shot in a shopping center parking lot Wednesday afternoon in Baltimore's Pigtown neighborhood died from his injuries, city police said this morning.
Officers found Murrell Alfred Hearns Jr., 31, in front of a restaurant in the parking lot in the 700 block of Washington Blvd. with gunshot wounds to the back of the head and a leg.
A police spokesman had said Wednesday that Hearns and two others had gotten into an altercation, and the violence did "not appear that it was a random attack."
Hearns was taken to Maryland Shock Trauma Center, where he was pronounced dead at 6:45 p.m. Wednesday, according to police.
Before police had released the man's name and condition, Sun reporter Justin Fenton received an email from a man who said he formerly was an employer of Hearn:
I was just called by two ex employees indicating it was a third of mine. Mild mannered gentleman. Preachers kid. Nice guy. Always smiling. Another sad day for Baltimore. Another family loses their son and their father.

Pigtown is becoming a hotspot of sorts.. we already have 4 murders this year.. a troubling trend. This kind of senseless violence needs to come to a stop... its sounds so cliche but its the truth... Life is not as cheap as folks on these streets make it out to be.

My sympathies and prayers go out to the family of this young man. I live in the 600 block of Washington Blvd., and I think that this must be the parking lot right next to Martin Luther King, Blvd. What audacity to shoot someone in this parking lot - in the afternoon - next to such a high volume street. I hope that his killers are caught and prosecuted to the full extent of the law.
I really thought that this neighborhood was getting better but it looks like I was wrong.

Black on Black crime needs to be stopped??? How about all crime?? whats the difference whos killing who??? Thats the comment of a real ignorant person. It would have been ok if the man killed was white as long as his killer was black? Or vice versa. Your a real moron!

@Paul - thank you for your comment. I have always been appalled by the phrase "stop black on black crime". Crime, regardless of the perpetrators or the victims, is crime. We need to work together to stop it PERIOD!
