Why is no one talking about this story? Why is a racist, child molester loose on the street? Everyone wants to blast the Inner Harbor story but no one is commenting on this story of obvious viciousness and racism.

Why are they not talking about? Because every time a crime is committed against a black man or woman by a white criminal, it is labeled racist or a hate crime. But every time a black criminal or group of blacks attack a white caucasion person the word hate is never ever attached to it. You cannot tell me for one minute that some form of hate is not involved in such an act, any criminal attack. I am very sorry for any victim of a crime, especially the victim here and his family, but let's equal the playing field here and call crime ....a crime!

Fact is that blacks commit the vast majority of violent crimes and are more bigoted by far, however they never get charged with hate crimes. That's hypocrisy. Until that changes I won't be worrying about cases like this at all.

We should all be outraged by an attack on a 76-year-old man fishing at a city park. And while attacks at the harbor, Mt. Vernon ,and other places are also heinous, people should be outraged at both.

Two of the three commenters seem to be saying: paybacks are hell, or something. Not sure.

Many law-abiding black folks in this city suffer from rampant street crime and intimidation by drug dealers, but it usually doesn't get on the Internet, and, in fact, is often not even reported. And their children are often drawn into the world of drugs and gangs because of where they live. And, apparently, you can't even go fishing!

It's striking that Peter's post on the harbor shooting elicited over 50 comments of outrage, but only one here. What's up with that?

First, let me say that man should NOT have been on the street. He's a scumbag and worthy of the WORST of what BCDC has to offer. I'm sure he'll get it.

I'm from baltimore but I've lived all over the place. I moved back home 2 years ago. I currently live on the north side of patterson park. I'm in my mid-twenties and I'm white.

We have SUCH a huge problem with racism. I was walking through patterson park last night at about... midnight. There were a group of 6 or 7 kids (highschoolers - black) hanging out under the gazebo by the casino. I, personally don't care what they were doing, why they were there, and i had no problem with their presence. I'm a street smart dude and I don't bother anyone. Anyway, I hear them all laughing and i see a rock skip by my feet. One of them yells "faggot white boy better run." Then, "Lemme get that ipod." Then another rock. I played it off like I wasn't concerned and for the most part i wasn't. I get that kids can be punks... i was a bit of a punk myself... but never a racist punk.

Point being... this was just one of MANY times I've been confronted in my neighborhood for being white.

I don't expect ANY special treatment but I gotta say... I'm detecting a double standard.

Blacks commit rapes of white women at a rate 500 TIMES the rate of white rapes of blacks.

Blacks commit murders of whites at a rate of 50 TIMES the rate of white on black murder.

In these thousands of yearly racist murders and rapes, not a SINGLE time has our great US Justice Department sought to prosecute a black for violating anyone's civil rights, white or Asian.

Is it any surprise there are a few whites who try to get a little justice on their own?

This is NOT a hate crime, as long as the authorities refuse to prosecute or even recognize any type of hate crime except when the perpetrator is white and the victim is black.

If the state is going to enforce the "hate-crimes" laws in a bigoted manner, then the laws should be eliminated, and people should be charged with the basic crime, be it assault or whatever. To make a white criminal MORE guilty because of his skin color, is RACIST.

To Chris in Hawaii -- I don't condone the activity of any criminal, but you obviously have never checked some of the tattoos of other black or hispanic criminals or gang members, do you think these body markings are not often about DEATH and DESTRUCTION......same thing as a tatoo of Hitler to me!

MD resident, do you not understand that a Hate Crime is a crime that is motivated by race, gender, etc.?

A tattoo can be about death and destruction all it wants to be, but unless it says something that promotes racial or gender specific hatred, then it is NOT the same thing. I have friends who have tattoos of skulls, tigers with blood dripping from their mouths, the grim reaper and other stuff like that. They are tattoos of, as you put it, death and destruction. Are they bad people? No. They're musicians. Would you consider them gang members if they were white? Probably not.

Now, if someone had a tattoo that said, Cr@cker K!ller or something to that effect, or if someone said, "If they weren't white, this wouldn't have happened," then yes, that would be considered a hate crime. Just like this is considered a hate crime, because in essence, that is what happened here. If someone says they did it BECAUSE the victim was white, black, latino, Micronesian, homosexual, bisexual, Jewish, Protestant, Muslim, etc. that is a hate crime. But just because the victim and the assailant are of different races, that does not make it a hate crime. I don't care if the guy has THUG tattooed on his face and DEATH on his neck, regardless of race, unless there is a statement made against the victim's race, sexuality, gender, religion, etc... it is NOT the same.

And don't make assumptions about me, don't say I "obviously" haven't done anything because you DON'T know me.
