Even before the shooting at the cookout their were crimes being committed everyday. Crime is not down. The people want people to come forward with information on crimes but no one is.Some folks are afraid. That is because when they do come forward some how their name and where they live get release when it's supposed to be in confidence.Witnesses are being threaten or killed. A few years ago I was living in Baltimore County.I place a call to the police to inform them of a group of boys and young men hanging out on the corner, they were selling drugs. The police operator wanted to know if I wanted to give my name. They asked if they were shooting or did they have guns. When you place a call to the 911 operator your name and address automatically shows up.Why would I want my information release and become a target in my neighborhood. My family and I would live in fear of retaliation against the corner thugs. I'm trying to prevent events from happening by informing the police. No police was dispatched to the area.

I live in the neighborhood where the shootings occurred. I dont know any of the people involved but I have been following the story in the paper. Its such a tragedy because I am quite sure people in the neighborhood know what is going on with this feud. However, if the news is reporting that people have been kidnapped and murdered..NO ONE is going to come forward. Also, our neighborhood is flooded with police on every corner... I got a ticket for my license plate light being out!!! The innocent working 9am-5pm people are being targeted by the police. I welcome the police but.. at the cost of being pulled over for a minor infraction as well.

oh com-on who are you kidding?from what i,m understanding.. the poe-poe knew what was going on the whole time. they knew the players and what they were involved in.it just goes to show what the police think of the residents of the urban jungle(Balt,City)I,ve seen them beat down truly inocent residents, of mixed gender including pregnant and parents accompining there children to where-ever.i,ve personally been approached by two officers from the north-eastern district, guilty of nothing but walking to my destination. when suddenly they jumped out of thier vechical and ordered me to give them my destantion location along with my I.D., while proceeding to search me,ignoring my protest.mind you while bending my thumb back, inflicting me with unbearable pain. After surviveing that ordeal, i,ve tried on several occations to report this to the shift commander,i spoke with him once, at that time he promised to call me back, well i,m here to tell you that i still await his return call.......registered voter/tax payer

About Peter Hermann
Peter Hermann started covering news for The Baltimore Sun in 1990, first in Anne Arundel County and, starting in 1994, reporting on the Baltimore Police Department. In 2001, he was assigned to Jerusalem as the Baltimore Sun's Middle East correspondent. He returned in 2005 as an assistant city editor overseeing crime coverage. In 2008, Peter returned to the beat as a daily reporter and blogger. A recent BBC report featured him in a segment on the harsh realities of covering crime in Baltimore.

Coverage will focus on crime trends, problems in neighborhoods in the city and elsewhere, profiles of victims and police officers and try to offer readers a fresh perspective on one of the most vexing issues facing Baltimore and its future.
