Death of Annie McCann
There's still no word on how Annie McCann died or why the 16-year-old Arlington, Va., teen came to Baltimore. She apparently ran away from home, leaving a note, and was found dead on Sunday in a courtyard off East Pratt Street in the Perkins Homes public housing complex.
Her death still remains a mystery. I got this nice e-mail from Sheila Olaguer, the wife of one of the paramedics who responded to the scene. She gave me permission to share it with you:
Dear Peter,
Thank you for the article in Thursday's paper on Annie McCain. My husband was one of the firefighters/paramedics who responded to the call. After 34 years in the fire department, calls of this nature still have a profound impact on him, as well as all the men and women who respond. Thoughts of her were with him all day on Sunday. He wondered who she was, how she died, what her life was like. He prayed for her in church. Thanks to your article, now he knows a little more. It helps to bring closure to which he is grateful. Sadly, its just another day in the life of the men and women who serve and protect the city of Baltimore.

My deepest sympathy and condolences to the family. I am haunted by a thought since reading this news that I cannot get out of my mind. It may be totally wrong, but for a family searching desperately for answers I felt I had to share this observation in the remote case that it could be true and relevant. Was Annie by any chance taking Accutane for acne? It causes 180 degree personality changes in young people that those closest to them cannot understand. If so, the family must report this to the accutane hotline to help prevent this from happening in other families. For whatever the reason this took place, may God comfort this family in their loss. So sorry and please someone be sure to bring the accutane issue to their attention. This is a stone that should not be left unturned. Thank you! C.O.

Accutane -- anything is possible, this stuff has been know to cause problems (depression, etc) but my guess is that it was either drugs or someone she met on-line --- all adds up (Baltimore + Baltimore) What is going on in this place, is there anyway to save it ? i wish I knew----Other than the crime, drugs, and violence, and the people who make it that way---I love this place, go figure ! we shall see as this thing unfold; but my heart goes out to the family !!!
