Sourcies Nominations Are Open!

We asked for help, and boy, did you deliver! We got a ton of great category suggestions for The Sourcies 2009 -- almost 70 altogether! We wish we could use them all, but alas, we needed to winnow it down a bit. Some categories (best line, for example) gave us too much choice, while others (like best air guitar) gave us too little. (Nice try at getting us to nominate Jensen's Eye of the Tiger performance, though, The Driver Picks!)

In the end, we cut it down to 25 categories. Ladies and gentlemen, in no particular order, your Sourcies are:

1. Best couple
2. Best recurring character
3. Favorite fashion guru
4. Best hair (or hair accessory)
5. Most dearly departed (your favorite deceased character)
6. Favorite newcomer
7. I love to hate you
8. Best cliffhanger
9. Most heartbreaking moment
10. Best special effects
11. Favorite villain
12. Favorite friends forever moment
13. Most awkward moment
14. Best fight
15. Best finally! It’s about time! moment
16. Best kiss
17. Biggest WTF?!? moment
18. Funniest scene
19. Hottest moment
20. Most unexpected hookup
21. Voice of wisdom award
22. Most dramatic meltdown
23. Hooray! The bitch is back!
24. Best special episode
25. Best family drama
So now we've got even more work for you: Nominations! We want to know your take on each and every one of those categories. Who should make the list? Note: We're looking for nominations from the 2008-2009 season only.

Tell us in the comments, and stay tuned for more Sourcilicious goodness!

[Note: We've closed the comments, because voting has started!]

It's Sourcies Season, and We Need Your Help!

That's right, folks, it's time for the fabulous CW Sourcies! You know the drill: We pit scenes and moments from various shows against each other and let you vote to see what comes out on top! And we want your help!

We're compiling the categories for this year's competition, but it occurred to us that hey, why should we have all the fun? So we want your input: What categories do you want to see your fave shows compete in this year? Are you looking for perennial favorites, like best fight, best kiss, best villain? Or do you have something more out-there in mind?

So here's our challenge to you: Use the comments to tell us what categories you want to vote in this year. If you see something you think is brilliant, second that emotion. We'll pick the categories that you love, that tickle our fancy, and that will make the Sourcies better than ever this year. Get commenting! We can't wait to see what you come up with!

Note: Wow! You guys rock! We've picked out categories for this year, so the comments are now closed. Now go nominate your favorites!

The CW Upfronts: Goodbye to the Fallen Shows

As happy as we are about the new shows on The CW -- we think Melrose Place, The Vampire Diaries and The Beautiful Life all look like a blast -- we do have to take a moment to mourn the shows -- and characters -- we've lost. Join us and remembering these fallen favorites:

Privileged: At first blush, we feared this show would be a Gossip Girl knockoff -- look, it's based on a series of teen-girl books, and it's about the lives of the fabulously rich! -- but we soon realized it was so much more. We'll miss the show's mix of sweetness and sharpness, and we'll miss out weekly dose of Megan, Rose, Sage, Marco and Will. We held out hope that the show would make it onto the schedule -- after all, it seemed to hit the young-woman demographic that the CW prizes -- but alas, it was not to be.

The Game: Not only was this a funny/smart/sharp/touching/outrageous/always amusing half-hour of TV, it was also a fantastic set to visit. We loved Derwin, Mel, Malik, Tasha, Kelly and Jason almost as much as we loved Pooch, Tia, Hosea, Wendy Raquel, Brittany and Coby. As fantastic as they are on-screen, believe us, they're even sweeter and funnier in person. We'll miss the show, with it's mix of laugh-out-loud funny and jaw-dropping drama (often int he same scene!), but we'll miss hanging out with the cast even more. And from the comments we've been getting on our last video with Pooch and Hosea, we know you feel the same way.

Say goodbye to Reaper, Everybody Hates Chris and Lily after the jump.

Happy Birthday, Terry Crews!

Terry CrewsIt’s a big birthday for the hardest-working man on The CW: Terry Crews turns 40 today. Happy birthday, Terry!

We’re constantly blown away by Terry’s energy – the man is EVERYWHERE! He’s only been acting since 1999, and already he’s got a mile-long list of credits, including Get Smart, Street Kings, Balls of Fury, The Benchwarmers, and so much more. That’s all while starring in Everybody Hates Chris as Julius, the hard-working, penny-pinching patriarch of the Rock clan.

Terry started out in Flint, Michigan, where he earned an art scholarship to Interlochen Art Academy and then Western Michigan University. He planned to become a special effects artist in Hollywood, but he got distracted when he walked onto the football team. He was a natural – Terry played All Mid-American Conference defensive end, and his team won the Mid-American Conference championship in 1988.

That evolved into a pro football career – Terry played for a number of NFL teams between 1991 an 1997 – but he never let go of his art skills. In fact, he painted a line of NFL licensed lithographs for Sierra Sun Editions. Who knew?

To top it all off, Terry has been married for 19 years and have five kids. When does the man sleep?

We’re hoping Terry got some time off on his birthday, and had a great time with family and friends. Leave you birthday wishes for Terry in the comments!

Happy Birthday to Tichina Arnold!

Happy birthday, Tichina! One of our favorite TV moms turns 37 today -- Tichina Arnold, who plays the no-nonsense, not-to-be-messed-with Rochelle on Everybody Hates Chris. Happy birthday, Tichina!

Tichina was born in Jamaica, Queens -- not too far Rochelle's TV home in Bed-Stuy - and got into acting at a young age. She hit the big screen in 1986 as Crystal, one of the girl-group narrators in Little Shop of Horrors. Not bad for a 16-year-old! After that, she landed a role-and an Emmy nomination - on the soap Ryan's Hope. Her next big gig was a recurring role on the sitcom Martin. And through it all, she kept up a stage career, too. We're amazed she even had time to take on Everybody Hates Chris, but we're glad she did -- we can't imagine anyone else brining that combination of heart and spice to the role of Rochelle. Critics agree -- she's made a bunch of best lists, and has won an NAACP Image Award for the role.

That's not all - Tichina has starred in movies (many critics say she was the only redeeming feature in 2007 flick Wild Hogs); started up a line of custom-designed, crystal-studded bandanas and clothing; and sung the national Anthem at celebrity sporting events. Whew!

We hope Tichina has a great time on her birthday -- and that no one gives her a cheap knock-off perfume that makes her break out in hives, like Chris gave to Rochelle on Mother's Day!

Leave your birthday wishes for Tichina in the comments!

CW Stars Up for Multiple Teen Choice Nominations

Eonline reports that Gossip Girl received a whopping 14 Teen Choice nominations, including Best Drama, Best Breakout Show, and Choice TV Actor/Actress.

It's true that GG is everywhere on the list of nominations. All three female leads (Blake Lively, Leighton Meester, and Taylor Momsen) are up for Best Breakout Female Star, and we were especially excited to see Ed Westwick's Chuck Bass nominated for Choice TV Villain along with Smallville's Michael Rosenbaum. But One Tree Hill also earned its fair share of nominations, including Choice TV Drama, Hilarie Burton and Sophia Bush for Choice TV Actress and Chad Michael Murray for Choice TV Actor. Our complaint: where are James Lafferty and Bethany Joy Galeotti? They deserve some noms, too!

Other shows represented include America's Next Top Model (Cycle 10 winner Whitney is up for Choice TV Female Reality Star, Tyra is up for Choice TV Personality, and the show itself is in the running for Choice TV: Reality Beauty and Makeover), Pussycat Dolls Present: Girlicious (for Reality Music Competition), and Smallville (Choice TV Show Action/Adventure, Choice TV Actor/Actress Action/Adventure for Tom Welling and Kristin Kreuk). Even Beauty and The Geek made the list with a nomination for Choice TV: Reality Beauty & Makeover.

Notably absent from the list: Supernatural and Reaper. And what about Everybody Hates Chris, Aliens in America, Girlfriends, and The Game? We think these shows were seriously overlooked -- do you agree?

Let us know what you think of the nominations in the comments!

Big News: The CW Announces Early Pickups for Top Model, Everybody Hates Chris, Gossip Girl, One Tree Hill, Smallville, and Supernatural!

Without further ado, the six shows that The CW has confirmed will be back for the fall season:

  • America's Next Top Model
  • Everybody Hates Chris
  • Gossip Girl
  • One Tree Hill
  • Smallville
  • Supernatural

First things first -- Supernatural is back! You had us worried there for awhile, CW, what with taking it off the schedule for long periods of time and not promoting it as much as we'd like. But you seem to have realized what a gem you have on your hands, and we're beyond psyched that we'll get a fourth season.

And more One Tree Hill! We're loving the way Season Five is playing out, and we cannot wait to see more of the gang's twentysomething adventures. This means more opportunities to see relationships form (and fall apart), more Ravens games, more Naley, more Leyton (whether or not you love them, we suspect they're around for the long haul), and more sassy Brooke. Hurray!

We're not especially shocked to see Top Model and Gossip Girl on the list, but we're still very happy! The former is The CW's biggest hit, and the latter is arguably the network's most buzzworthy show. We can't imagine a fall TV season without Tyra and her latest crop of model wannabes. And Gossip Girl is just starting to heat up -- imagine the potential of another season of conniving, backstabbing, and bitchery.

Then there's Everybody Hates Chris, which consistently brings the funny and completely deserves another year of anchoring The CW's comedy night. And Smallville has been keeping things fresh this season with a flurry of new characters and new loves found and lost. The big question: will Michael Rosenbaum return for Season Eight? If he doesn't, will you keep watching?

So that's the big news. We want to hear your reactions! Are you freaking out about this news, or were you confident all along that your favorite shows would return? And what about shows that haven't yet been confirmed, like The Game, Reaper, and Aliens in America -- are you worried, or do you think they'll be back?

Everybody Hates Chris Makes The Year's Best List

Tyler James WilliamsWe love Everybody Hates Chris -- it's funny, it's snarky, it's got a great cast, and the writing is superb. We're not alone: The sitcom is the sole CW show to make the American Film Institute's top-10 list of the best TV shows and movies of 2007. It joins such critical and audience darlings as The Sopranos, Pushing Daisies, Friday Night Lights and Ugly Betty. Congratulations, Chris!

Everybody Hates Chris: Chris Meets the Guidance Counselor

We finally got to see Chris Rock on Everybody Hates Chris as his fictional young alter-ego's guidance counselor. How do you think he did? CW Launch Party Pics (And Lots of Them)!

Erica DuranceWe've got pics from The CW launch party in Los Angeles! You'll see stars like Terry Crews, Erica Durance (right), Jared Padalecki, Chelsea, Robin, and Melissa R. from Pussycat Dolls Present, Tyler James Williams, Tichina Arnold, Ray Wise, and more! Jason C. interviewed many of the CW stars at the party, so we'll be posting chats with them very soon. For now, enjoy the pics, and keep checking back -- we're adding more daily.

A few tidbits: the cast of Everybody Hates Chris is AWESOME -- we'd love to hang out with them on the set sometime. It's got to be hard to keep a straight face with the jovial Terry Crews, hilarious Tichina Arnold, and straight man Tyler James Williams around.

We got some juicy updates from fan favorites Chelsea and Melissa R. of Pussycat Dolls Present (and yes, we made them sing for us). Both girls were touched when they heard how much love they got here on the Source in the spring. Plus, Robin Antin revealed what's new about Season Two of PCD Present.

Erica Durance shared some Smallville scoop, Amy Pietz talked about Aliens in America's controversial nature, and Ray Wise dished on his devilish ways on Reaper. Oh, and we chatted with Stevie Ryan and Tanika Ray of Online Nation and CW Now, respectively, to find out what those new Sunday shows have to offer.

Check out the pics and tell us what you think!

K-Fed's Other Ex To Star On Everybody Hates Chris

The powers-that-be at The CW apparently have a sense of humor. Not only is Kevin Federline guest-starring on One Tree Hill (and boy, did you all have something to say about that!), K-Fed’s ex is showing up on Everybody Hates Chris. No, not Britney – Shar Jackson, from Moesha and (more recently) The Ex-Wives Club. You may also remember her as the woman K-Fed left for Britney, despite his two kids with her. How’d that work out for you, K-Fed?

Shar will be showing up as a young mother whose daughter uses Tanya as a cover for all sort so of illicit activity – sneaking into R-rated movies and even (gasp!) seeing boys. As you can imagine, Rochelle has something to say about this.

"I am having a blast," Shar told People magazine. "The cast is absolutely amazing."

We’re just glad the two shows film on different coasts. Can you imagine the two of them meeting between sets? Awkward!

Everybody Hates Chris Delves Into Hockey History

BlackAthlete.net reports that Everybody Hates Chris will be getting a lesson in ice-hockey history from Willie O'Ree.

For those of us who aren’t hockey savants, O’Ree was the first black player in National Hockey League history, debuting with the Boston Bruins in 1958.

O’Ree will appear in an episode titled "Everybody Hates Gretzky," where Chris and Drew skip school to meet Wayne Gretzky. He plays a helpful gentleman who offers directions and hockey history.

Hockey fans and EHC fans, be sure to check this one out!
