Stylista: Grow Up

At the beginning of the episode things were actually looking up for Kate. DyShaun put her on a team with Ashlie for the four-page photo spread editorial challenge and, for once, she actually put on a team player hat. Of course, it’s probably easier to be a team player when the team consists of only two people – not a lot a lot of room for conflicting personalities there. Kate and Ashlie got along famously and in our eyes pummeled the competition with their sassy photo shoot.
DyShaun tried his best to goad Kate into a full-blown fight, which he finally got after comparing Kate to a STD. While working on the layouts, DyShaun asked Kate for help with identifying the hair stylist on the project – as if the two teams aren’t neck-and-neck as it is and normally aren’t trying to sabotage the competition. So, it’s no surprise that Kate blew DyShaun off, to which he replied, “Thanks, Chlamydia.”
Hold on a minute! What did he say? We’re glad we taped this episode so we could rewind and watch that exchange again and marvel at DyShaun’s audacity. The comment was rude, immature, uncalled for and just plain offensive. The moment reminded us of that unforgettable and oft-talked about scene in the 7th season of The Real World: Seattle when Stephen slapped Irene in the face. It strikes us as a game-changing moment in the history of this freshman series. But, now that Kate has departed, will DyShaun get the reprimanding he deserves? Probably not. All’s fair in love and fashion.
Kate understandably took DyShaun to task for his belittling comments, but kept moving forward for she was far too confident in her project to back down now. Unfortunately Anne didn’t feel the same way. When it looked like Anne was leaning towards the photo shoot completed by DyShaun, Megan and Johanna, Kate went overboard and criticized the hell out of the other team’s methods and ideas. Not very professional Kate.
We feel bad for Kate, but she does bring much of the taunting on herself. Next week won’t be the same without her. And juvenile as it was, we couldn’t help but stifle a laugh when Kate got kicked off and voiced her opinion about the rest of the crew.
DyShaun is “abusive.” Megan is “wicked.” Johanna is “so insecure that this business won’t be able to handle her.” Tell it like it is Kate. While all these things are true, you can’t exactly run to your boss and blab about it.
What did you think? Which team did you prefer this week? Are you sad Kate was sent packing?
