News Bits: Katie Cassidy Cited, Tyler Labine Talks

Katie Cassidy*Supernatural's Katie Cassidy has been cited for underage drinking and lying to a police officer. From Zap2it:

Cassidy admitted to drinking wine and cranberry juice/vodka cocktails and then gave officers her friend's name and age, which was 23, as her own. Eventually, her conscience got the better of her, and she admitted, "OK, OK, I lied to you, that wasn't my real name, but I'll give it to you now." A breath test showed positive results for alcohol consumption.

The kicker? She turns 21 on Sunday.

*Reaper's Tyler Labine dished to TVGuide.com on hanging out with the cast, why Ray Wise is the coolest guy alive, and how the strike's already affecting the show. Oh, and he's married!

come on Jackie & CW Source people tell the whole truth. "Katie only chose to tell the truth after she got caught in her lie. She said she was 21, gave Taylor Cole's birthday(Taylor is 23) which would've made her 23 not 21. Which is how police caught her lie.

I like Katie but I cracked up over her mother calling her a high profile actress. If that was the case, the cops would have known who she was and she would be getting press on a regular basis and her arrest would have been all over the tabloids and news.

I can't believe that her mother actually told the cops that her daughter didn't have time to go to court. She sounds like Paris Hilton's mother, another mother who believes that concequences for breaking the law doesn't apply to her daughter.

I'll admit, personally I can't stand Katie, but so far Ruby is tolerable, in small amounts.
As far as this incident goes, I don't think it's that big of a deal. She's young, she did something stupid, she lied, and it made her look stupid, but it's over. The fact she was worried about being a "high profile" actress, just made me laugh.
This will become a different story of course, if she becomes a repeat offender of this kind of thing. The show doesn't need that. But as it stands now, hopefully she learned a good lesson.

People are blowing this out of proportion because they don't like her character. If J or J did this, people would be much more forgiving. That irritates me. - Siara

What? Haven't you heard? Jared and Jensen are saints who never do anything wrong... when they do something it is always ALWAYS cute and/or adorable. Those are the rules of the Supernatural fandom *rolls eyes*

Anyway, no one really cares about this. I mean, obviously the Supernatural fans do which is understandable, I guess, but it's not like anyone else does. People aren't going to see this and think "oh noes, I shall not watch this show because this girl who is on it got drunk and panicked, and lied to the cops.". Part of the reason why this is getting noticed more than the good news is because Supernatural fans are being wanky as hell and people find the craziness amusing and want to share. And hey, it's a mention of the show, no such thing as bad publicity.

All right, she got drunk and lied to the cops. Stupid but hardly anything to freak out about. She gave up Taylor Coles name instead of her own... no harm in that for Taylor. She's 23 and can legally drink heart out. Considering that the two are friends, I bet they've probably had a good laugh about this whole thing.

Hey Jackie, I'm sorry to imply that this blog didn't cover the honor that the guys received. Believe me, I KNOW you did and we appreciate it so much, as well as all the SN coverage. :))) It's just that a number of fans went to great lengths to get that press release out there all over the place and the response has been minimal, whereas K.C. does something stupid and immature and it's all over the place. Well, at least you had the good sense to not label her "the Supernatural star" like so many other places did. (p.s. thanks Stacie, it's like you can read my mind!)

galveston, there's no "moral outrage" here and it's not even about the drinking. Yeah, perhaps we have all done it, but then again, we're not the ones in the public eye with the most to lose, now are we? And if she weren't one of the "new girls" this season, I doubt she would be getting this much attention. Her actions simply showed a lack of good judgment which further reflected on her maturity level. It is this general lack of maturity that is unfortunately translating badly in her mediocre portrayal of Ruby. Honestly, I LIKE the character of Ruby and what she can bring to the story, but in the hands of K.C. she is coming off as a snotty brat, not a menacing demonic presence. Bobby shot her, the meatsuit is now damaged... all the more reason to bring in someone who can sell the role. If they can get it right and cast Ms. Barrese, who was fantastic, for demon!Casey in a one-shot, then why can't they be more discerning for someone meant to be more of a "regular"? Is it because the real CW is more interested in the T&A than in quality?

And yes, I think it's unfair for you to bring in J&J into the argument. I'm sure they've had their drinks in their time, but I challenge you to dig up a similar article on either of them.

I love the character of Ruby, its just that Katie is a horrid actress. Given that her dad and grandpa became more famous for drinking and screwing up then their talent, I dont think this bodes well for her or the show.

Not all women who watch the show are mindless fangirls. Many of us love the female roles on the show and have no interest at marrying either man!

I'm sure the boys drank underage, but I REALLY doubt they ever lied and gave someone elses name when in trouble or had their parents request the cops drop it, because they are 'high profile actors'. Both men were famous as teens, and I can not remember either getting this kind of press. Doubt they were angels, but they were certainly not liars and name droppers and if genes mean much, drunks.

Meh... I am not overly concerned by her adventure. Doesn't mean anything to me... people make mistakes and hey... I think Ruby is GREAT!

No prob, hermitme. I just wanted to be sure that SN fans saw that we were there and we give attention to the good stuff that happens to the boys!

And Stacie, thanks for your thoughtful comment -- much appreciated. It's a huge compliment to be thought of as synonymous with The CW, especially considering when we started out, we cheered when we broke 200 pageviews a day! We've grown a lot. I know some of you have already heard the "we're not The CW" line, but I like to make that clear every once in awhile because not everyone knows it, and sometimes we get blamed/criticized for stuff we have no control over (ad campaigns, scheduling, coverage in other media, etc.). Likewise, we can't take credit for the network's good decisions, either (much as we might like to :)

We appreciate everyone's comments, and we always look forward to hearing what you have to say, so please keep them coming.

And have a happy Thanksgiving, everyone!
We have part three of Sarah's interview with Sera Gamble coming up, so check back soon.

And one more thing -- we're not The CW! We're the unofficial source for CW news and gossip, but we are not the network.

Jackie, believe me when I say we appreciate that you guys cover Supernatural. You're above and beyond in this arena.

However, I think that Mousita and hermitme know that this isn't the CW. But rather a high traffic blog and as you said an "unofficial source". I don't believe that they are so much aiming their message at you so much as at anyone at the actual CW who might be reading this blog, because it gets a high amount of traffic and fan feedback.

I realize you have to report the good and the bad and in this instance, it's the bad. Unfortunately, Miss Cassidy's mistake has been more widely reported, by other media outlets, than that of the honor the guys recieved at the convention in Chicago. And it's merely that frustration that you're bearing the brunt of.

On a positive note, think of it as a compliment. You all cover the CW stuff so well, you're synonymous with it. You're reaching a lot of people around the country.

Again, thanks for your coverage. It is appreciated.

Mousitsa and hermitme, we did cover the Supernatural conference and the award that was presented to Jared and Jensen. The coverage is here, here, here, and here, and we still have a lot more in-depth stuff coming.

And one more thing -- we're not The CW! We're the unofficial source for CW news and gossip, but we are not the network.

Jackie Thank you for letting us know and I apologize for my mistake in thinking you were part of the CW. It's good to know that the Award Presentation was covered and I thank you for that. I hadn't seen it.

So Katie Cassidy is a bit immature, I already knew that. She was dumb to lie and use Taylor's name, it's proven.
Her worst crime is her 'acting' - cut her loose!

She made a mistake. She was drunk. It happens.

People are blowing this out of proportion because they don't like her character. If J or J did this, people would be much more forgiving. That irritates me.

I have to agree with the previous posters; get her gone. High profile actress my tush! Two-bit barbie doll that can't act worth a crap.

I can deal with Bela in a "Love to hate her" sorta way just like Henrickson, but Ruby (and apparently the actress that plays her) um...just no.

Bring on more of Bobby, bring back Ellen, hell resurrect Ash (please?) but make Ruby go away!

I even agree with the person a while ago that suggested keeping the character but getting rid of the actress by having the demon switch bodies. Bobby shot her in the heart so when the demon leaves she dies. Problem solved.

Oh and that reminds me...what is with the extended blink thing that is going on for the demons to "black out" their eyes? In previous seasons it was a quick blink and *poof* black eyes all around. Now they look down, close their eyes, look up, open their eyes and their black. Irks me to no end each time. Just flippin' blink and move on. We get it already. OY.

And yeah, drinking when you're a week away from 21, not a big deal for me; lying to the cops when your busted...dumb. Just dumb.

It's pretty sad that this worthless tidbit is "newsworthy" and yet the boys getting Special Forces coins and Supernatural being the most requested DVD by the troops in both Afghanistan and Iraq gets nothing. Way to go CW. As usual, your priorities are so screwed up.

To the person who says so what to Katie's drinking, fine. That's not the problem. The problem was she used another actress' name and age, then tried to pawn off the open container on the driver who was underage and nice enough to drive her dumb ass. Nice thank you. What a loser.

Wow....she had some wine with dinner and got a sober friend to drive her home. Wow. Let's pitchfork her to death. The judgmental nonsene I'm hearing is driving me crazy. Yes, I'm sure Jared and Jensen are such *angels* that they never had a sip of beer before the age of 21.

BIG. DEAL. Yes, she panicked and gave Taylor's name because she's a kid. You know what would have happened to Taylor Cole had the officer believed her?

Nothing. It's not a citable offense to be 23 years old and in a car drunk if a sober friend is driving you. The "moral outrage" is enough to make me puke. Damage to Supernatural's reputation? I loved Supernatural to death, but I laugh at that. I wish Supernatural were high profile enough to get a damaged reputation.

But--it's one of the new girls so she's judged. If Jared or Jensen had done it, there would be excuses aplenty.

so funny

Wow, so Supernatural gets its first bad publicity in three years! How ironic when the real stars of the show go out of their way to avoid such crap. And where’s an article highlighting the honor that Ackles & Padalecki received from THE General Petraeus during the convention in Chicago? The good stuff is highlighted nowhere, while this crap gets attention it does not deserve.

And this isn’t really about “underage drinking” at all considering she’s almost 21 and wasn’t the one driving. It’s the fact that she lied about her age to begin with, pretended to be Taylor Cole (who was the actress that portrayed Sarah, by the way), threw her name around as weight because this wouldn’t look good for her, and even had her mother asking the police “what could be done” since her daughter is “a high profile actress.” Don’t believe me? Then do a search for “The Smoking Gun” website, then use the search function on the website and type in “Cassidy”. The article will come up with a copy of the Tucson police report filed.

Supernatural, for the sake of your integrity, cut your losses now and exorcise demon Ruby from this host body as soon as possible!

Who cares? Let it go. She's twenty and did something irresponsibly stupid. I'm pretty sure Supernatural doesn't need this kind of publicity.

'Eventually, her conscience got the better of her, and she admitted, "OK, OK, I lied to you, that wasn't my real name, but I'll give it to you now."'

Um..wasn't it because she got the date wrong and that's how the police officer KNEW she was lying?!

Since we're talking Supernatural... the friend's name which Katie gave the officers was Taylor Cole aka. Sarah from the episode Provenance. A bit of trivia there ;)

Anyway, who cares. She wasn't driving and she's an adult. Sure, it might not have been legal but, really, we're talking a few weeks off (and the whole 21 thing is silly anyway). No harm no foul.
