Supernatural Season 2 DVD Release Date

We don't know when Supernatural: Season 3 will be gracing our screens yet, but we do have one thing you can add to your schedule. According to Movieweb, you can pencil "Buy Supernatural Season 2 DVD" in for September 11. Whether you also pencil in "Fake plague so I can stay home and devour DVDs in one marathon sitting" is up to you.

The extra features will include commentary from directors, producers, and the boys themselves; unaired scenes (which will hopefully make certain episodes make more sense); and the ever-popular gag reel. But what's got us most intrigued is the promise that we'll see Jared Padalecki's original screen test – it should be interesting to see how he approached Sam from the beginning, and check out the changes as the character has grown.

Smallville: Season 6 DVD News

Smallville
Smallville fans, are you anxiously anticipating the arrival of the Season 6 DVD set? Well, we have some details for you.

It will be released on Tuesday, September 18. (Preorder your copy now!) The box will feature a hot pic of Clark and also Lex and Lana. Lana doesn't look so great here, but I guess even the cutest of starlets have their bad days.

Also, there will be some kick-ass features included in the collection: a Green Arrow retrospective, the animated "Green Arrow Chronicles" that originally ran on mobile phones throughout last season, a documentary based on the Smallville "Ultimate Fan" online search, and, of course, the standard deleted scenes. For more details, check out TVShowsOnDVD.com.

One Tree Hill: Who's the Crazy One?

Lucas grapples with the truthOkay, OTH fans, we're wondering something after last night's episode. Why is it that Lucas looks so crazy while Dan, the murderer, appears totally cool and confident? Clearly, Dan has more experience plotting and scheming. But does Lucas really think he can convince people that Dan killed Keith by telling them that Abby came to him in a dream? The guy has got to get it together or he’s going to lose his mother to Dan…forever!

Last week, most of you said Lucas had to tell someone what he knew about Dan. But did he go about it in the right way? And is it too late for him to change his approach?

Plus, what'd you think of the rest of the episode? Are you pro-Brooke and Chase? What about Peyton's LA internship offer -- should she take it? Discuss! And get a full recap if you missed anything!

VOTE: What should Lucas do to convince everyone?

Hidden Palms Premiere: What'd You Think?

Greta

Welcome to Palm Springs – home of too much heat, too much sun, too much money, and too many secrets. Looks like we’re in for a wild ride this summer!

So, what did you think? Poor Johnny – not only did his dad kill himself (right in front of him!) because his mom was having an adulterous affair with said dad’s best friend and business partner, the kid has to deal with mom marrying the guy she was sleeping with and getting schlepped off to the desert in the middle of summer. It’s enough to turn anyone to drink. Lucky for him, his AA meetings feature a quirky, diminutive drag queen whose alcoholic confessions come off like stand-up. Not bad – we’re wishing we could add a quirky, diminutive drag queen to every show on the network.

The rest of the neighbors… well, they’re going to keep things interesting. Cliff is just the sort of amiable sociopath to keep Johnny on his toes. We kind of wish they’d gone a slightly subtler route with his character, however – wouldn’t it have been cooler if we spent the whole time wondering whether Cliff was who he seemed to be? But by the time he started punting small fuzzy house pets, he was telegraphing eeeeeevil to the extent that we expected him to start twirling his mustache and tying damsels to the train tracks while cackling gleefully.

Speaking of damsels… what did you think of Greta? Johnny, obviously, is smitten, but what about you? We’re intrigued, but worried that she’s going to be the next in a long, long line of troubled wild-child party girls hiding her pain from the world. We kind of prefer Liza – but then, what’s not to like about a chick who dressed in protective gear and makes stuff explode?

On to the adults. We’re ready to bestow the World’s Worst Dad award on Johnny’s suicidal pop – seriously, why the heck would he shoot himself right in front of his son? Granted, he knew he wouldn’t be around to pick up the pieces, but if you’re going to traumatize your kid by killing yourself, at least have the good grace to do it in an out-of-the-way place, not right in front of the kid. Sheesh. Don’t they address that in parenting manuals?

Of course, none of the parents on this show are looking particularly spiffy – self-absorbed plastic-surgery junkie, adulterous wife who married her dead husband’s best friend, completely absent… heck, the most normal parents are the ones who let their kid blow things up in the garage. Maybe all that sun bakes parental brains?

So what did you think? Do you like the air-of-menace vibe, or would you be happier with a straight-up teen soap? Who’s your favorite character? Just how evil is Cliff? Will Johnny be able to hold on to his sobriety – or even his life? What are all the secrets floating around out there in the desert? Let us know what you think in the comments!

Even More Hidden Palms Publicity!

Amber HeardIt's Hidden Palms premiere day, and the media world is still buzzing about the new CW drama.

Zap2it's got an interview with Kevin Williamson, who promises juicy summertime viewing: "I hope that people sample it and give it a try and stick with it. It's good summer fun. We wrap it up in eight in terms of mystery, but we certainly open up the door to more."

The New York Times weighs in, too, saying "'Hidden Palms' is high soap opera, a kind of 'Masterpiece Theater' of unjustifiable television, which means that there won’t be anything quite so much fun to watch all summer" (you may have to watch an ad to read the article).

As is the Times' nature, the article savors the backdrop as much as the drama: "The mood is severe, but the colors are happy. Mr. Williamson has created a sick world, but one for which you wouldn’t mind having the swatches."

And in still more HP news, Zap2it reports that Amber Heard, who plays pouty Greta, has scored the female lead role in a new movie, "Get Some," about an underground fighting league.

Just a few more hours to go... we can't wait for the premiere!

Michael Cassidy Video Interview!

Happy Birthday, Jaslene! The Top Model Tells What's Next

Happy birthday, Jaslene! Today's the Top Model winner's 21st birthday, and she celebrated in style last night in her hometown of Chicago. She dropped by for an interview to talk about her latest projects (TV spots, a Latina mag cover, and more). But all the anchors seemed to notice is her tiny size -- check it out!

Top Model's Jaslene Reveals Abusive Relationship

Jaslene GonzalezShe's on top of the world right now after winning Cycle 8 -- but even America's Next Top Model winner Jaslene has had some rough times. She revealed to People that she was in an abusive relationship, and it really crushed her confidence.

Fortunately, Jaslene's been out of the relationship for awhile, and she has advice to offer for others who might be dealing with the same thing: "I can give so much advice, but it starts within yourself. You need to get help. Talk to somebody, because once you talk about it, you hear it, and then you understand what you're going through. That's what it took for me to let go."

The link's also worth checking out for a sneak preview of Jaslene's upcoming Seventeen magazine cover -- she looks great!

Hidden Palms Preview: Positive Buzz

We’re gearing up for the debut of Hidden Palms, the soapy teen mystery/drama from Kevin Williamson of Dawson’s Creek and Scream fame. And we’re not the only ones.

The News & Observer calls the new show “skillfully creepy [and] sexually charged….The mysteries unfold with a satisfying pace. The dialogue is sharp, even counting the snarky, very 'written'-sounding back-and-forth between Johnny and Greta. It works because these actors have genuine chemistry going on.”

The Star talks to Williamson about what he’s aiming for with the show: “I just wanted to tell a story. A very suspenseful story. There is a mystery that is the sort of underlying drive, but it is a family drama. A teen drama. A sort of an unusual, quirky drama. There are some jumps. There are some scares. There is some creepiness and unsettling and nervy moments. But we tried to keep it all character-based. The characters inform the mystery as opposed to it being just plot-based."

Williamson also talks to the folks at MeeVee about what’s it’s like to be an adult so associated with teen drama: I have written a lot of young-people stuff, and I just don’t think I’m writing a teenage character, I think I’m just writing a smart character I hope audiences will connect with and care about…I don’t believe in writing down to the teenage audience. And I do get criticized a lot that a lot of my teenage characters do sound like psychologists…”

We’re looking forward to the show – how about you?

Supernatural Fan Art: Dive Into Kroki Refur's Genius Picspams

Drunk!Sam's awesome expression captured

We're at the start of a long, dry, new-Supernatural-free summer, and we know you're wondering how you're going to get through until the new season starts this fall. We're here to help, with the return of our posts on the best in Supernatural fan-created goodness.

This week, we're going to point you to the various picspams of Kroki Refur (about halfway down the page). Refur is, quite simply, a genius, and her picspams inspire as much glee as the episodes themselves.

We were first introduced to Refur's particular brand of madness through her "Ten Expressions" posts, where she takes 10 expressions from an episode and weaves them into a story. In these posts, we discovered the show's budgetary restriction on expressions, thrilled at evil make-up department plans, witnessed the salting and burning of the Internet, enjoyed the uses of flashbacks for brotherly torture, first set eyes on the Fabulous Drunk!Sam seal of disapproval, debated whether Sam is evil or 12, and discussed the philosophical implications of seriously cheesy movies.

Plus, Refur came up with the single most brilliant explanation for what happened to Sam in All Hell Breaks Loose, Part 1. Seriously – check them all out.

Then we delved into her exhaustive and exhilarating Episode Recaps of Doom – perfect for when you want to relive the best of the episode. They're smart, they're funny, and they make you see things you may have missed the first time around. They're just the thing to get you through the summer.

We were thrilled when we got a chance to talk to Refur about her Supernatural art, the show, and why she does what she does. Read on!

Ten Expressions started when Refur watched In My Time of Dying: "I was just struck by how expressive Sam and Dean's faces were, and I wanted to make a post about that. I started off just picking my favorite ten expressions for Sam, but then I did Dean too and I put in a few funny captions and people liked that." Those posts evolved into using the pics to tell a story based on – or inspired by – the episode.

The conversation part is the easiest part of the process, Refur says,
"The rapport between the brothers makes writing dialogue for them awesome fun." The rest of the process takes some time: "I basically go through the episode making screencaps of every time there's a good shot of the boys' faces (preferably close-ups). I usually wind up with four or five hundred caps. When I'm done, I go through them and go 'Man, that's an awesome bitchface' or whatever, and pick my favorite expressions and put them in a separate folder, which usually brings the number down to about fifty, and then I see what sort of conversation suggests itself based on those. Then I write the conversation, pick caps to go with each line, photoshop them to make them clearer, et voila!"

Of course, the show itself helps the process along: "The most important thing for me, and I think most people in the fandom, is the relationship between the two brothers. Even when the show is being silly or cheesy, the family dynamics are so well-drawn, and the characterization is wonderful."

Refur has nothing but good things to say about the show and about her fellow fans: "Supernatural is a wonderful fandom to be in, both because of the show (which is, of course, awesome) and because of the sheer love for it that we all have. I've had so many kind comments about my stuff from total strangers, and, you know, it's the sort of thing that would make me want to have a giant chick-flick moment if I wasn't so stoic and repressed."

Hee! Well, we may risk inspiring a chick-flick response by saying this, but we think Refur is all kinds of awesome. Go check her stuff out!

OTH YouTube Preview: Getting Us Through 'Til Wednesday

We just watched OTH series creator Mark Schwahn's YouTube preview of the next new episode (airing next Wednesday), and while we're excited about the Brooke/Chase possibilities and the next steps in the Lucas/Dan saga, we're a little concerned about Peyton! It sounds like she might leave Tree Hill... what? We don't want that! Isn't Lucas enough to keep her there? Well, we'll try not to stress until we see the episode.

Rumorville: What's Next for Veronica Mars Cast?

We’ve got a couple of conflicting rumors from two TV gossip mavens. Make of them what you will.

First up, TV Guide’s Michael Ausiello says series creator Rob Thomas is pondering a Veronica Mars movie. Poing!

"I'm not entirely sure how/when VM would've ended, but I wouldn't discount my taking a stab at a feature script. But I'm not sure if I could sell a movie based on a little-watched TV series."

Um, Rob? You could. You really, really could. Trust us on this – you’ve got plenty of people who would pay money to see what happened to Veronica, Logan, Keith and the rest of the Neptune crowd.

The other rumor comes from E!Online’s Kristin, who reports that Thomas is shooting a new project (on spec) at his house with Enrico Colantoni (Keith) and Paula Marshall playing spouses. “As far as I know, Colantoni is not playing anything Mars-related, so it appears Thomas may be moving on,” Kristin reports.

While we’ll take any excuse to watch Enrico on television, we have to admit, we prefer Ausiello’s rumor more. Viva La Mars!

Smallville Scoop: Who's Done? Who's Coming Back?

Smallville

Michael Ausiello has some Smallville scoop on who's coming back and who's staying away next season. Don't read if you don't want to know!

First, Ausiello talked to Erica Durance, who revealed that Chloe would, in fact, be coming back from the (theoretical) dead. "She's not really dead - It's Smallville! It's just going to be an interesting mystery to find out what really happened to them - right now we're in a bit of trouble." Whew! We're glad it sounds like they'll both make it out alive.

But we've got some bad news about our favorite Smallville mom. When Auseillo talked to John Glover (Lionel Luthor) at the CW Upfronts, John let slip that Annette O'Toole, the fabulous Martha Kent, would not be coming back in Season 7 as a regular cast member. We're bummed - we love Martha - but since Senator Kent has gone to Washington, we guess it makes sense. Alas.

Hidden Palms Preview: Hot Cast Pics

Something's not quite right in Johnny's worldThe past week-and-a-half has produced some pretty awesome CW finales... but now that some of our faves are off for the summer, we're craving a new drama to get sucked into. Something frothy and fun, with plenty of scandal, sun, and steamy plots. You know, the TV equivalent of a beach read.

Fortunately, we've got Hidden Palms premiering next Wednesday, and the new drama looks like it'll live up to the challenge. Gorgeous setting? Check (Palm Springs, natch). Serious eye candy? Check (check out the newly buff Taylor Handley, at right). Will-they-or-won't-they romances darkened with creepy plots? Ooh, yes, definitely. Next week's premiere will acquaint us with Johnny Miller (Taylor Handley of O.C. fame), a teen fresh out of rehab after his father's recent suicide. Johnny's been transplanted against his will to Palm Springs with Mom and her new hubby (that was quick!)

Once there, Johnny meets his neighbors: science-obsessed Liza (Ellary Porterfield), beautiful and mysterious Greta (Amber Heard) and cheerful Cliff (Michael Cassidy, also formerly of The O.C.). It's all glossy and lovely and palm-tree pretty on the surface... but something's not right in Palm Springs, and it doesn't take Johnny long to get suspicious.

Besides the teens, there are some seasoned veteran actors around to keep things interesting. Gail O'Grady, D.W. Moffet, and Sharon Lawrence have been all over Broadway, TV, and film. And Veronica Mars fans will recognize Tessa Thompson as Wallace's girlfriend, Jackie -- she shows up in episode 2.

Check out pics of the cast and tell us what you think. Will you be tuning in?

Smallville Alum Eric Johnson Flashes Back to TV

Smallville's Eric Johnson
As we announced earlier this spring, Smallville's Eric Johnson will be playing Flash Gordon in a new series of the same name on the Sci Fi Channel this August. Now EW.com has an exclusive interview with our man about his new role.

He talks a little bit about his Smallville alter ego, Whitney. Are there similarities between Whitney and Señor Gordon? " 'I think there is a similarity there, just a regular guy trying to do the right thing.' " Is he afraid that he'll forever be associated with comic book heroes? " 'I'm playing a regular guy. He's far more Indiana Jones than he is Superman,' " he points out to EW.com writer Annie Barrett.

He even gets a love interest and a swank new ride in the "Flashmobile," a '67 Firebird convertible. (Then again, Clark would say, "Who needs to drive when you can fly?" No need to feel threatened, kiddo.) Congrats, Eric!

New Fergie Video Features Hot Milo Ventimiglia Cameo

So we were just chilling, kicking back, checking out the new Fergie video for "Big Girls Don't Cry" (first Fergie single in awhile with no spelling of the title track in the lyrics!) when we took a closer look at the hot tattooed bad boy that Fergie's aching for.

Gasp! It's Milo Ventimiglia, aka Jess, of Gilmore Girls (and now Heroes and hot music video) fame. For those of you still pining over his departure from the show, it's pretty cool... but for those of us who still picture him with Alexis Bledel -- yes, we know they broke up ages ago -- it's a bit jarring to see him canoodling with blond bombshell Fergie. What do you think? Have you guys seen this yet? Check it out!
