Ready to race: Signing up for Dreaded Druid Hills, Annapolis 10-miler and more

Hi. Remember me? Fair-weather runner here. I confess, my running has been about as frequent as my blogging, which is to say, pretty much non-existent.

Sure, there were some nice weekends when I was able to run six miles or so with friends, but as soon as the weather turned blustery, rainy or cool (i.e. spring) I retreated to the indoors.

But as the weather has turned nicer, I've noticed more and more runners outside pounding the pavement in my neighborhood. It's turned my thoughts to -- what else? -- racing.

I was peer-pressured to sign up for the Annapolis 10-miler this week. I've never run it, but I am assured it's a challenge, not to mention hot. I also plan to sign up for the Dreaded Druid Hills soon. I am terrified, yet drawn to the race at the same time!

That's it for now. I'll definitely be adding more races, including at least one half marathon in the fall. My main goal this year is try to run consistently, despite all the planned vacations, warm-weather happy hours and all the other great events that start to happen when the weather gets nice.

How's your spring shaping up?

I'm running the MAC 1/2 Marathon on the NCR Trail Saturday. It's an easy course, and I'm hoping to finally beat my half marathon PR from 2009.

Next month I have races on three consecutive weekends: the Survivor Harbor 7, then the Baltimore 10-Miler, and the Dreaded Druid Hills 10k. This is the first year I've gotten up the nerve to sign up for the Dreaded Druid Hills, and I'm quite apprehensive about it.

Wow, Hal, that's quite a schedule! I had considered the Survivor 7 and I'm signed up for the Baltimore 10-miler, but sadly, I'll be out of town and will miss those two. Best of luck with all of them, especially with the Dreaded! - anica

I *should* sign up for races, but I'm having commitment issues. :]

But I do think I'll be running the Dreaded Druid Hills this year, despite my general wimpiness.

im signed up for the baltimore 10 miler, the preakness 5k and just today registered for the baltimore half in october.
was thinking about doing the dread duid hills, anyone run it before can tell me about more about it?

I found this on mapmyrun.com from the 2009 Dreaded Druid Hills. Don't click on it if you have a slow connection, it's a pretty bloated site.

Dreaded Druid Hills is certainly challenging but not impossible. I suggest you run the course before the actual race day. If you need someone to run with find my website, contact me and I will tell you when my running group is running the course. Best part about finishing is bragging to your friends you ran it.

I'd love to run Dreaded Druid Hills course before the race, but I've never seen maps or directions for the course.

I would like to dreaded druid hills, but I think I'll save it for another year. I'm doing the Seashore Striders (Coastal DE) challenge this summer, so I'll probably do one of those races that weekend instead.

I peruse weblogs.baltimoresun.com via google translate - look after up with the updates !

I just wrote a blog post about the race organizers going ahead as planned. They are unlikely to reschedule, they say, but might cancel: http://weblogs.baltimoresun.com/health/fitness/ - anica
