This weekend you can celebrate Baltimore history AND Baltimore dog history at the 113th Duchess of Windsor Birthday Celebration.
To commemorate the city's ties to the Duchess, who was a HUGE fan of dogs and raised in Mount Vernon, the festival will take over the 200 block of East Biddle Street on Sunday, June 7th, from noon to 4 p.m.
Make sure to take your dog. Events include:
* The Duchess of Windsor Museum will be open for tours.
* Zippy Larson's Duchess Walking Tour. The $10 admission benefits Baltimore Heritage, Inc.
* Baltimore Grand Houses for Sale Tour from 12 PM until 4 PM. Pick up a brochure at 206 East Biddle Street.
*Animal Rescue, Inc. will host an adoption table in front of 200 East Biddle Street.
At the end of the day, two dogs will be named Duke and Duchess of the festival.
After the festival, at 5pm there will be a cocktail party at The Adele Corner House. Casual attire and outrageous jewelry is recommended. The suggested donation is $20 and all proceeds will benefit Animal Rescue, Inc, a non-profit organization.
Duchess of Windsor (aka Bessie Wallis Warfield) was married to Prince Edward Duke of Windsor, formerly King Edward VIII of the United Kingdom. The Duchess was a socialite, born in 1896 (I had her birthday wrong at first but readers corrected me -- thanks readers!, JR), who grew up in the historic neighborhood of Mt. Vernon in Baltimore, Maryland.
The event is sponsored PNC Bank, Midtown Development Corporation, Baltimore Heritage, Inc. Pretentious Pooch and Healthy Neighborhoods Inc.
