If you're puppy's gotta Tweet...

Mattel has never created a toy for a four-legged creature before. And its first one? It will help dogs get onto Twitter.

Eureka!

Puppy Tweets, CNN recently reported, is a gadget that clips onto your dog's collar. It has a receiver that connects to your computer. All you have to do is help your doggie create a Twitter account, if he can't do it himself, and then -- woof -- watch the Tweets roll in.

You'll be able to get updates from the pup all day. At least in so far as the little guy stays within the pre-recorded bounds of the device. The animal's activity triggers certain Tweets.

Like, CNN says: "If he's running around, you might get a tweet that says "I finally caught that tail I've been chasing and...OOUUUCHH!....If he's making a ruckus, his tweet will let you know that as well, saying"YAHOOOOOOO! Somedays you just gotta get your bark on."

So when you put him in the crate, forget the treats, just throw in a Blackberry....

The toy will be available in the fall and retail for $29.99.

Jill, It looks like Teddy Bean's fur is growing back nicely after his trip to the groomer. Are you planning to do a Teddy Bean update any time soon? I would love to see some more pictures!

I agree. More news about ze Bean please. Perhaps we can view his twitter feed. He looks like a natural on that laptop!

Looks like Teddy has lots of hair now! Quite a "do" he's sportin' on his head.

About Jill Rosen
Jill Rosen is a reporter at The Baltimore Sun. During her nearly 20 years in journalism, she has covered news and features — including a surprising number of stories that involved animals. There were the dog Christmas carolers in State College, Pa. There were the hounds who toured with a production of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. The story of a preschool teacher at Baltimore’s Father Kolbe School who had to replace her class guinea pig, who died over the winter holiday. A harrowing tale of what it was like to make homemade pet food ...

Though her clean freak of a mother refused to allow her to get a dog, she has had a number of pets through the years, including goldfish named Bob and Fingle, a betta fish named Ichabod, a wild rat terrier named Wendel, who she shared with a roommate, and, currently, sweet, sweet kitties named Leo Sesame and Milo Pumpkin and a little rescued pup named Teddy Bean. She, Leo, Pumpkin and Teddy Bean live in Baltimore.
