Teddy Bean reminds all about BARCStoberfest

The Bean would like everyone to remember that BARCStoberfest, originally scheduled for last Saturday, has been postponed to this Sunday. It will still be from 11 to 4 p.m. at Patterson Park, but at the Pagoda area.

The 5th annual fundraiser for BARCS is a festival for animal lovers of all ages and is, they say, the canine social event of the year. The event raises awareness and much needed funds for the 12,000 animals BARCS takes in each year. There will be a silent auction, pet costume contests, local artists & vendors, adoptable pets, animal health & welfare experts and pet demos.

The Strut Your Mutt Walk, which The Bean has been raising money for, will begin at noon and will take participants on a walk around beautiful Patterson Park. Registration the day of the event begins at 11am. Pre-registration with a donation of $40 is required to guarantee a t-shirt and can be done online.  Registration will also be accepted on the day of the event, but t-shirts are limited at the event so people are strongly encouraged to pre-register. The walker who raises the most money for the shelter’s animals will win the Grand Prize - a Dell laptop valued at $500!

The contests will begin at 1 pm.  Audience applause will determine:

· Most unique Pet Trick/Talent

· Best Tail Wagger/Butt Wiggler

· Best Singer/Howler

·  Best Kisser

·  Fastest Treat Eater

·  Smallest & Largest Dog

There is a $5 entry fee for each contest.

Baltimore’s best Halloween competition for companion animals will begin at 1:30 pm.  Categories are

·  Best Halloween Theme

·  Best Hon/Best Boh

·  Matching Dog & Human

·  Most Original

A Best in Show winner will be selected from the four category winners. Winners will be determined by audience applause.  Costume competition prizes are donated by Dogma. There is a $15 entry fee for each costume category

The picture of the fluffy Bean was taken just this morning. He's on one of his favorite pillows, special flavored bone at the ready. He can't wait for BARCStoberfest!

My new foster, MacDuff, and I hope to meet you and Teddy Bean on Sunday, we'll be at the Beagle Rescue of Southern Maryland booth. Stop by when you can!

I really wish I could make it out. The Halloween theme contest portion of the event is bound to have some terrific entries I'm sure!

The best kisser category is probably the most original thing I've seen in awhile. I bet that is going to be hilarious!

It was amazing contest. It was truelly a fun. I like the many of them.

About Jill Rosen
Jill Rosen is a reporter at The Baltimore Sun. During her nearly 20 years in journalism, she has covered news and features — including a surprising number of stories that involved animals. There were the dog Christmas carolers in State College, Pa. There were the hounds who toured with a production of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. The story of a preschool teacher at Baltimore’s Father Kolbe School who had to replace her class guinea pig, who died over the winter holiday. A harrowing tale of what it was like to make homemade pet food ...

Though her clean freak of a mother refused to allow her to get a dog, she has had a number of pets through the years, including goldfish named Bob and Fingle, a betta fish named Ichabod, a wild rat terrier named Wendel, who she shared with a roommate, and, currently, sweet, sweet kitties named Leo Sesame and Milo Pumpkin and a little rescued pup named Teddy Bean. She, Leo, Pumpkin and Teddy Bean live in Baltimore.
