Rescue Ink/Tattoofest: Here's what's up

This Saturday from 10 a.m to 7 p.m, the Baltimore Tattoo Museum (1534 Eastern Avenue) will sponsor a Tattoo-a-thon to accommodate all those who pledged to go under the needle to bring Rescue Ink to town.

Proceeds from the Tattoo-a-thon will benefit both Baltimore Humane Society and Rescue Ink, helping both groups to continue their important work in animal welfare. Tattoos will be given on a first come, first served basis. There will be two designs to choose from (shown here -- dogs to the left, cat to the right) and the prices will be $100 each. Rescue Ink will not be present at this event. The size of the tattoos will each be about the size of a silver dollar.

Then, on Sunday, October 25th from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. the Rescue Ink guys will be at the Baltimore Humane Society (1601 Nicodemus Road, Reisterstown). They'll help B-More Dog celebrate Pit Bull Awareness Day rally against animal cruelty.

Baltimore Humane Society will be ask everyone to take a pledge against animal cruelty. B-More Dog will be on hand to conduct demonstrations, including narcotics sniffing, weight pulling, agility and more and to speak on responsible pet ownership practices. There will be photo-ops, a Q&A session, a book signing, tough guys and adoptable pets.

Finally, on Monday, October 26th, Baltimore Humane Society will be taking Rescue Ink to visit BARCS and the Maryland SPCA.

The goal of this three-day event is to bring the citizens of Baltimore together with Rescue Ink and B-More Dog to rally against and fight animal cruelty," says Tracy Santos, with the Humane Society. "We all know that the pit bull is the most exploited and abused K-9 breed and they need our help. In honor of Pit Bull Awareness Day, all of the proceeds donated to the Baltimore Humane Society during and leading up to the three-day blitz will be used to match an existing grant from Pit Bull Rescue Central to offer free spay/neuter services exclusively for Pit Bulls."

Awesome- thanks so much for the update, Jill. The paw print design is exactly what I had imagined it would be and I am so excited for Saturday!

Thank you for the update!

Thanks Jill. When you find out, can you give us an approximate time when they will be at the MDSPCA on Monday? And Barcs.
Thanks

They will not be at Barcs and the MDSPCA to meet the public. They will be there to tour the shelter and help with open abuse cases. If you want to meet the guys, come out to Baltimore Humane Society on Sunday from 12-4pm. You can take a pledge against animal cruelty, see some awesome demonstrations from B-More Dog and join the rally against animal abuse :)

Thanks Tracy.

Can we bring our dogs?

Valerie, it's a health code violation to bring dogs to a tattoo parlor. And I understand that they should stay home for the Humane Society event as well.

They should stay home for the B-More Dog/ BHS event since it is being held at an animal shelter.

But B-More Dog is at almost every dog event in the city (we will also be at BARCStoberfest that day) and we are always happy to meet your pups!

Why don't the guys from Rescue Ink, along with BHS and Baltimore Dog, come to BARCStoberfest and have a "meet and greet" area at that location. It doesn't seem fair to host competing events that support a similar cause...

Angelic - I think that's an excellent idea! According to baltimoregal, B-more Dog /HS is already coming to BARCStoberfest so why not move their Pit Bull/Rescue Inc event from the Owings Mills location to BARCStoberfest in Baltimore City? With all those events in one place with already a lot of publicity for the annual BARCStoberfest in place, I betcha more people would be there to give Rescue Ink and the dogs we are trying to save even more exposure. (The co-chair of BARCStoberfest did invite Rescue Inc to the festival to help promote the Franky Fund.) And, everyone could bring their dogs to the Park AND see Rescue Ink . . .

BTW- BARCStoberfest was scheduled for last weekend but was postponed to this weekend because of bad weather - and so there is the cause for the scheduling conflict.

Anna,
Because the Baltimore Humane Society is the one that made the push to GET Rescue Ink here. And B-More Dog had this event planned at Baltimore Humane for months now- Baltimore Humane combined the two. It also has the facilities we need to do the additional demos we plannes. It's a bit unfair to ask Baltimore Humane to do all the work and not reap any benefits. Rescue Ink will be visiting BARCS and the MD SPCA on Monday and working with them in the ways that a lot of people would prefer- dealing with actual cases.

B-More Dog has held 4 or 5 classes at BARCS with not a lot of participation from the public. This event is a chance to really get us out there and get additional participation in the future IN the city. Please feel free to go to our site and see what we are all about.

Also, at our fundraiser on Monday I spent some time talking to a guy (98 Rock, can't remember the name) who is planning to hold a fundraiser for animal rescue and I suggested BARCS as the recipient.

There will also be another fundraiser held soon with the idea of funding Rescue Ink to come back again and help. I will suggest to the people that are putting it on that it have a city focus.

I'm so excited for this! A little bummed the guys from Rescue Ink won't be in Baltimore, but I know I can't make it on Sunday. See you all there!

@Aubrey, the Rescue Ink guys WILL be in Baltimore, just not at the tattoo event. They'll be at the B-More Dog/Baltimore Humane Society event on Sunday.

@baltimoregal: Well said!

Few questions...Is the tatt limited to one per person?? Also, does the payment need to be cash?? Thanks!!! =)

The tattoos are not limited. You can get as many as you want, and we can accept cash or charge as payment.

I've been all excited for this, but then my dog, Echo, (who I wanted to celebrate with this tattoo) needed emergency dental surgery, which kicked out all of my discretionary money for the month (that and the car battery I needed to replace today). He's fortunately doing just fine, but now I don't think I can afford the tattoo :( Awww man.

Thanks, Tracy!!! Good to know =) Can't wait!!

This is so great! I will be there! Hope to see everyone that pledged and more!

Many thanks to Baltimore Tattoo Museum for what they did today ! Love my paw print. Adam did a great job. Hope to see you all at the Humane Society tomorrow.

About Jill Rosen
Jill Rosen is a reporter at The Baltimore Sun. During her nearly 20 years in journalism, she has covered news and features — including a surprising number of stories that involved animals. There were the dog Christmas carolers in State College, Pa. There were the hounds who toured with a production of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. The story of a preschool teacher at Baltimore’s Father Kolbe School who had to replace her class guinea pig, who died over the winter holiday. A harrowing tale of what it was like to make homemade pet food ...

Though her clean freak of a mother refused to allow her to get a dog, she has had a number of pets through the years, including goldfish named Bob and Fingle, a betta fish named Ichabod, a wild rat terrier named Wendel, who she shared with a roommate, and, currently, sweet, sweet kitties named Leo Sesame and Milo Pumpkin and a little rescued pup named Teddy Bean. She, Leo, Pumpkin and Teddy Bean live in Baltimore.
