Rescue Ink tattoo: Some ?'s answered

There's been some confusion brewing about the Rescue Ink tattoo -- what it will look like, what it will cost, how the tattooing will work. Tracy Santos of the Baltimore Humane Society wrote me just now and wanted to clear up at least a few things. More to come later, but in the meantime, she says:

The design for the paw print has not been released yet, I plan on doing that as soon as I have all the details for that day in place. There will be two designs to choose from. The price discussed was $100, but still has not been confirmed. Baltimore Tattoo Museum has stated that if they can accomodate people's requests they will, but it is likely that they won't be able to, due to the sheer number expected to show up that day.

I feel like due to the misinformed person's comments many people are backing out and deciding to just donate directly to Rescue Ink. While it's each person's choice, we are just trying to think of the best way to accomodate everyone in a timely, orderly fasion. I hope to have more info asap, however I still need to touch base with a few people to get the details in place.

The event will be from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m on October 24th at Baltimore Tattoo Museum, and it will be on a first come, first served basis.

Thanks,

Tracy

I do have one question. For those of us who aren't able to get there until later (I'm trying for 5 but may be closer to 6), will we still get a spot or are they cutting it off at 7?

Thanks, Tracy.

Thank-you Tracy. This does aide in better understanding what's going on. I still have one major question though. Is Rescue Ink coming here for more than just the tattoo event? I thought we were pledging a tattoo as a way of getting their attention to help us out with our animal abuse issues by coming to Baltimore. It sounds like this may just be a type of fund-raiser? I don't want to upset anyone but I was pledging permanent ink on my body if they would come here and help us...not just for a fund-raiser. Again, I hope this doesn't sound harsh, however, this is a concern of mine.

Rescue Ink will be here October 25th for an event at Baltimore Humane Society to speak out against animal cruelty and help us fight animal abuse. They will not be present on Saturday the 24th during the tattoo event. As I have previously stated several times, this is coming together very quickly and as soon as I have more details I will post them. October 24th will be the tatoo-a-thon at Baltimore Tattoo Museum (Rescue Ink will not be present). Rescue Ink will be at Baltimore Humane Society on October 25th as we celebrate Pit Bull Awareness Day. Again- more details to follow shortly.

I share JeanneG's sentiments. I too thought Rescue Ink was coming to Baltimore for a rally against animal abuse. I thought it would be in a neutral place for all organizations and everyone involved in "fighting the fight." While I do applaud the Humane Society for stepping forth as they did and think it's great that they will get Rescue Ink here to support them, as a Baltimore City resident and supporter of BARCS for all they do in helping the abused like Phoenix and Gabrielle and with limited resources, I cannot participate in the fundraiser for the Humane Society that this has become.

But now that the co-chair of BARCStoberfest has officially invited Rescue Ink to the festival on the 25th, I too will be able to get excited again about them coming to Baltimore. I hope they will agree to make an appearance at BARCStoberfest to advocate support of BARCS' Franky Fund and all the other good works they do. That would be awesome!

Someone commented at the public meeting with the city's Anti-Animal Abuse Task Force at Poly that there are many animal rescue organizations that should somehow work in a more cohesive manner - there is strength in numbers. Maybe if the Task Force or a "philanthropic foundation" would have sponsored Rescue Ink, all organizations and their supporters and volunteers would participate and benefit including Rescue Ink and in the end, more animals would be helped.

I hope the Humane Society's tatoo event on the 24th and their event on the 25th where Rescue Inc will be present is a great success. And if Rescue Inc could also come into Baltimore City and make an appearance at BARCStoberfest afterwards, that would be a perfect day for so many of us who share Rescue Inc's mission.

And thanks to Jill for making all if this possible!

Tracy, I cannot afford $100 and I thought Rescue Ink would be doing this on Sat 24.
How about those who would like a tattoo and can't afford $100, be given a fake paw print tattoo, and give to the cause - the Pit bulls.
Great idea. I am in a Doberman Rescue group in Eastern Loudoun County.
I had a Dobe and only 2 places would except me in their apt - Broadlands Apt/s by Van Metre. They also accept Pits.
Thank goodness, because I was getting really upset to think I could not have my Dobe with me. It is very friendly (dog wise here) and Sir Duke was welcome and would go into the office with me.
So I know about the stigma assoicated with certain breeds which is not right.
Van Metre is the right company for me! Thank goodness they think beyond the box.

About Jill Rosen
Jill Rosen is a reporter at The Baltimore Sun. During her nearly 20 years in journalism, she has covered news and features — including a surprising number of stories that involved animals. There were the dog Christmas carolers in State College, Pa. There were the hounds who toured with a production of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. The story of a preschool teacher at Baltimore’s Father Kolbe School who had to replace her class guinea pig, who died over the winter holiday. A harrowing tale of what it was like to make homemade pet food ...

Though her clean freak of a mother refused to allow her to get a dog, she has had a number of pets through the years, including goldfish named Bob and Fingle, a betta fish named Ichabod, a wild rat terrier named Wendel, who she shared with a roommate, and, currently, sweet, sweet kitties named Leo Sesame and Milo Pumpkin and a little rescued pup named Teddy Bean. She, Leo, Pumpkin and Teddy Bean live in Baltimore.
