Teacup pigs latest pet craze sweeping U.K.

Apparently very, very, verrry small piggies are the latest must-have pet in the U.K. The tiny teacup pigs, or "micro-pigs," as they're called, grow to about knee-height and cost, well, quite a bit -- about $1,100 in U.S. dollars.
However, they're supposed to be clean, intelligent and very loveable. They're clearly cute as can be. Oh, and Rupert Grint, of "Harry Potter" movie fame, has reportedly bought two!

Have you seen the little piggies
Crawling in the dirt?
And for all the little piggies
Life is getting worse
In their styes with all their backing
They don't care what goes on around
In their eyes there's something lacking
What they need's a damn good whacking.

I'm fearful of what will happen to all these pigs when their popularity wanes, as it does with every trendy new pet. Poor things.

They become very small, delicious slices of bacon and the really aptly named baby-back ribs.

Sadly, they are the equivalent of teacup dogs--runts who are less healthy than their proper sized counterparts.
Not everything cute needs to be a pet.

Exploitation of animals in the name of greed. Let's domesticate and breed, breed, breed so that when the novelty wears off - shelters will soon be filled with these too. Sad.
