Fidos for Freedom Stroll on Saturday

Fidos for Freedom, a non-profit that trains and provides service dogs and hearing dogs to those who can't do everything for themselves, is having a fund-raising walk on Saturday.

The group, which also has a therapy dog program and a D.E.A.R.  (Dogs Educating and Assisting Readers) program, is having its annual Fall Stroll 'n Roll on Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon at Centennial Lake in Ellicott City. Since it's Halloween, costumed dogs are welcome.

Fidos is asking for a minimum donation of $20/person and encourage groups to form teams. There will be raffles, vendors and a flyball demonstration.

This is an awesome charity to support. These dogs are amazing and it's uplifting to see the process by which they are trained and paired with a person to assist. FIDOS has heart and sould and they are a fun bunch of animals, and so are their dogs!!! Please join me in supporting Fidos for Freedom based in Laurel, MD. Come on out to the Stroll "N Roll this weekend. Details at

Come in your Halloween costume and I'll give you a treat! It's fun for young and old and a VERY worth cause, folks!

This will be the 5th Stroll 'n Roll we have attended. Amazing people, amazing dogs!

I can't thank Fidos enough. They provided my mother-in-law with an assistance dog and that dog has changed her life!

I'll definitely be at the Stroll n Roll tomorrow. Thanks Fidos!

Jill, thank you for spreading the word about the Stroll 'n Roll We had a great turnout and the rain held out. We almost saw the sun a few times, and the temperature was perfect. Thank you all who donated to the cause!

About Jill Rosen
Jill Rosen is a reporter at The Baltimore Sun. During her nearly 20 years in journalism, she has covered news and features — including a surprising number of stories that involved animals. There were the dog Christmas carolers in State College, Pa. There were the hounds who toured with a production of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. The story of a preschool teacher at Baltimore’s Father Kolbe School who had to replace her class guinea pig, who died over the winter holiday. A harrowing tale of what it was like to make homemade pet food ...

Though her clean freak of a mother refused to allow her to get a dog, she has had a number of pets through the years, including goldfish named Bob and Fingle, a betta fish named Ichabod, a wild rat terrier named Wendel, who she shared with a roommate, and, currently, sweet, sweet kitties named Leo Sesame and Milo Pumpkin and a little rescued pup named Teddy Bean. She, Leo, Pumpkin and Teddy Bean live in Baltimore.
