Cute costume countdown to Halloween!!

With Halloween right around the corner and BARCStoberfest on Saturday, I thought it would be fun to have a Cosume Countdown, featuring an animal in a costume every day up till Halloween -- and even right on afterward if you guys keep the costume pictures coming. SEND IN PICTURES! We'll show off the best, the silliest, the cutest, the craziest --- anything really. Just send it with an explanation of who you are and who's the lucky fur thing in costume. (Send JPEGS to jill.rosen@baltsun.com)

I'll start with great pictures that I've collected from the wire -- including a number featuring these adorable pugs who are lucky enough to have a costume designer mom.

This photo taken Oct. 4 shows pugs Mochi, left, and Olive posing for a photo dressed in their flower costumes at their home in Huntington Beach, Calif. The stepsisters have been geisha girls, surfer girls and sushi over the years. They may not understand the tradition, but "pugs understand positive energy," explained dog owner, partner and costume designer Lisa Woodruff.

About Jill Rosen
Jill Rosen is a reporter at The Baltimore Sun. During her nearly 20 years in journalism, she has covered news and features — including a surprising number of stories that involved animals. There were the dog Christmas carolers in State College, Pa. There were the hounds who toured with a production of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. The story of a preschool teacher at Baltimore’s Father Kolbe School who had to replace her class guinea pig, who died over the winter holiday. A harrowing tale of what it was like to make homemade pet food ...

Though her clean freak of a mother refused to allow her to get a dog, she has had a number of pets through the years, including goldfish named Bob and Fingle, a betta fish named Ichabod, a wild rat terrier named Wendel, who she shared with a roommate, and, currently, sweet, sweet kitties named Leo Sesame and Milo Pumpkin and a little rescued pup named Teddy Bean. She, Leo, Pumpkin and Teddy Bean live in Baltimore.
