Collared today: Maebe

NAME: Maeby.

OWNER: Emily and Steve (aka, Mommy and Daddy).

HOW THEY MET: Our precious pit bull Rosie had passed away in December 2008 after a long battle with lymphoma. Our two male dogs, Moby and Buzz, became deeply depressed a few months later, and so we decided to get them a puppy to cheer them up. We went to BARCs in May of 2009 and found our little Goblin Princess, Maeby.

She got her name from our favorite show, "Arrested Development." She was about 20 pounds underweight, bald from a flea allergy and had an under bite. Perfect for us!

AGE: No one knows, but somewhere between 9 and 18 months. It was hard for BARCS to tell her age due to her condition.

HOME: Catonsville.

BREED: Pit Bull/Baltimore City Street Mutt.

MALE OR FEMALE: Princess.

BEST TRICK: Beating her 85 pound brother at tug of war (she only weighs 45 pounds!)

FAVORITE ACTIVITY: Going to her Aunt’s house to play with their 10 pound Chihuahua mix and eat food the toddlers left all over the floor.

FAVORITE FOOD: Snowballs, especially with marshmallow.

FUNNIEST MOMENT: She has lots, but it would have to be the time she wore out her big brother Buzz, and instead of leaving him alone, she sat on top of him and continued to play bite his ears and neck. Buzz fell asleep, and Maeby still kept playing with him.

GOBLIN OF GOODWILL: Maeby has made such a difference in the lives of our 2 male dogs. She is their best bud and has brought happiness to our home again.

IF MAEBY HAD A MOTTO FOR LIFE, IT WOULD BE: Livin’ the good life.

Aww, thanks for featuring Miss Maeby today! It is her goal in life to be e-famous!

What's more sad than a depressed dog? Glad they could find a fun little sister to lift their spirits!

aw what a heartwarming story. I love how you call her the goblin princess haha!

She looks adorable! She sounds like she cheered the whole house up.

Thanks for giving Maebe a second chance at a great life! It sounds like she was the missing link. What a great story.

About Jill Rosen
Jill Rosen is a reporter at The Baltimore Sun. During her nearly 20 years in journalism, she has covered news and features — including a surprising number of stories that involved animals. There were the dog Christmas carolers in State College, Pa. There were the hounds who toured with a production of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. The story of a preschool teacher at Baltimore’s Father Kolbe School who had to replace her class guinea pig, who died over the winter holiday. A harrowing tale of what it was like to make homemade pet food ...

Though her clean freak of a mother refused to allow her to get a dog, she has had a number of pets through the years, including goldfish named Bob and Fingle, a betta fish named Ichabod, a wild rat terrier named Wendel, who she shared with a roommate, and, currently, sweet, sweet kitties named Leo Sesame and Milo Pumpkin and a little rescued pup named Teddy Bean. She, Leo, Pumpkin and Teddy Bean live in Baltimore.
